In Indigenous communities a western world view is presumed to be the best way to teach literacy and maths. Children read books about non-indigenious people and things, never seeing their own lives held up as ideal - and then look at the skin colour of those working for and with them, and the content of most of the literature - and see, graphically, that NONE of it applies to them.
