well, technically there is still the entity, the thing that’ll show up to murder anything when they’re needed, they can’t understand love or compassion, just murder murder and murder
This makes me consider the idea that Chara is with Frisk the whole time and as Frisk continues to be kind to the monsters, Chara also grows and changes along with them. Chara is the little voice that explains things to Frisk when they encounter certain things like the "it's you!" dialogue in the beginning and the "despite everything, it's still you" at the end with the mirror. It just hits so good especially here.
That's actually a very common belief among the fandom! It's hinted at very many times in the game that the narrator is, in fact, Chara. These hints are much more obvious during a no-mercy route.
Well I mean. Canonically, Chara is the narrator, so yeah.

Well how did Chara get them if the frisks are in different time lines?
+Lislex1 Maybe Chara is a constant of the multiverse. Their conscience is the same in every universe, wich explains how they were able to harvest all those Frisks souls from different universes.
+Takeshi Hanataro Chara is always with you from the beginning of the game. Just like Flowey follows Frisk wherever they go, Chara is always on Frisk's back. Chara is, in fact, "the sins crawling on your back".
So everytime you die, whatever timeline it may be - Chara takes your soul just as you die and resets because he/she has a plan for you. Think about. Everytime it says "game over" it really IS game over for Frisk. There is no DETERMINATION left (your SOUL doesn't refuse), so you die and Chara absorbs your soul.
And Frisk is dead how could they reset? -They can't! Someone else resets the game and says motivational words to Frisk after they die. Who? -CHARA. Why? Because Chara has other plans for Frisk.
So who is Chara, you may want to ask? Well... during the game Chara is YOU, the player. YOU decide whether you want reset the world or not. YOU decide if you want to control Frisk into killing monsters he/she loves or if you just watch them be the nice kids they are. At least until the sins on your back completely poison your soul and you start to lose control ;)
+polaki18 heres the issue. chara, here at least, states that not a single soul was stolen but rather GIVEN. if he sniped dying souls, those aren't giving. and how do you explain Chara never popping up until the genocide route is done?

After coming back to this, I realize that this video portrays Chara more perfectly than anyone else has so far. Chara isn't inherently evil, but has gone through the hell of seeing players control Frisk to do bad things. Every time this happened, they gained another soul. This corruption is the true evil of Undertale.
Has anyone considered this might be Frisk, being told over and over they are an evil thing with a new name? Time shenanigans comes into play like when the naming took effect.
If Frisk was the first fallen human, we named them Chara before they even first cried for help.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate how beautiful the animations are for the different attacks, and how they each represent a different weapon you can find in the game? From the Tough Glove, to the Ballet Shoes, Torn Notebook, etc.

This is probably the best Chara fight I've seen. It's like a parallel to the Asriel fight. Both try to destroy the player to be with them, and in the end plays onion-cutting music while begging you to lose. That's clever.

This is the best Chara boss fight I have ever seen! Not because of the music, not because of that awesome slash sprite animation, but because this really has meaning into it. It's not that Chara is a demon, or that you have to save Chara because they are a murderer and they did bad things that are not canon and totally found a portal to the real world and took control over the frikin player...wow that was long...This is still a save Chara but It's not the "Save Chara from their evil, they could still change" thing, It's a "Save Chara from the mental breakdowns of seeing her family be killed by this genocidal maniac more than a thousand times" Thing.
I LOVE this and I will tell all my friends who thinks Chara is just that plain demon who made you press the fight button. Nope. The player does, because they are curious of what happens when they do. Sans is kinda right, we do it not because we want to, It's because we can do it. If we can do it, we HAVE to do it...
I think of all the stuff I see on the comments I think yours is the best one of the discribsion of the video and chara themselves.
Chara doesn't seem to regret about losing family in genocide endings. Moreover: in soulless pacifist ending she uses Frisk's body to kill every member of the family. A notable detail: she appear to be quite a demonical figure when she acts out (laugh in soulless pacifist ending, frenzy in case of refusal to rebuild the world). And if you'll notice the history of Undertale world you'll know that Chara got obsessed with idea of destroying the human world (they screwed up their plan due to Asriel's unexpected refusal so Chara's soul was lost like Asriel's (who turned into evil flower maniac as the result)). Gosh, she even said: "ATK. DEF. HP. XP. Gold. Every time any of these stats grow... that feeling... it's me".
I can only propose that Chara is evil. You have to be better than her or you'll end up as her trophy. And if she doesn't appear in true pacifist ending - okay. After all, Asriel is trapped in flower body although it's damn hard to blame him for this shit; why should we help some ruthless demonic psychopath first (not to mention she was far not saint from the beginning and was behind all this)?

This is damn impressive. Holy shit, good going, dude! The combat's exciting, Chara is both tragic and creepy as they should be, dialogue is interesting, and the tone both matches the game while standing well on its own. I'm excited to see where the comic goes!

After really giving thought to this, it's an accurate representation of Chara. We place so much blame on them because we're selfish and use Chara as a scapegoat when we are the ones pushing them to go down dark paths. TL;DR, us the player is the real problem, not chara.

I mean, this is how I see it : we're three in this body. Us, the player. Chara, the narrator. Frisk, the vessel.
this is actually what I think most of the fans think. Especially considering if you follow the Character Analysis on tumblr, it actually fits perfectly well.
I love the way you display human attacks. They’re intense and quick and snappy. I like how you were able to explain why monsters were unable to dodge Frisk’s attacks yet still not die in one blow, and at the same time make them dodgable to add challenges and exitement and also explain how Sans was able to dodge them. This is by far my favorite interpretation of the player’s moveset in Undertale.
Edit: And the souls THE SOULS OMW!! THAT WAS SO CLEVER AND POETIC AKDNLSNFLSMFK!!! It really puts in display the true power of human souls that Undertale would keep talking about.

Then, for the next 21 frames, the scrolling speed stays constant, giving room for about 10 rows (9.91=21*17/36) That frame is the last one where the 4 SOULs flicker on the top of the screen. the SOULs explode 16 frames after appearing and each (row of) explosion is separated by one frame, the explosions begin to fade 18 frames after the last flicker was shown, if we assume that Chara is efficient with the use of Frisk SOULs then only 44 souls would have been used.

I remember watching this for the first time back in the day... I hadn't read the story arc it was based on, and to be perfectly honest, I still haven't - so I still don't know the context to a lot of this.
Yet the whole thing managed to captivate me just as much as it used to back in 2016. I really wasn't expecting it to hold up as well as it did, but it might honestly be even better than I remembered, regardless of whether you've read the whole story or not. It makes me really appreciate how much work must've gone into this.

A small thing that I really like about this fight is that Chara says you fighting back is making this far less exciting. From our perspective this fight is crazy but since Asriel isn't fighting back Chara is basically just hitting the fight button over and over again
Sometimes, the greater mastery is demonstrated by one who can dodge attacks until his foe can fight no longer.

To the people who say "I like the animation but Chara isn't evil"... This animation ends with Chara telling the truth that they were being controlled by the multiple Frisks in an endless nightmare. Which is true in the game. Chara is said that some Frisks were not pleased with Pacifist and that they were being controlled. Chara isn't evil in this animation or at all.

Christian where does it state Chara wanted to wipe out humanity? All the tapes along with Asriel states that she wanted to do it to free all monsters. Seriously, tell me where it says she hated monsters, had no feelings, and wanted to wipe out humanity. (And Asriel saying she wasn't the best person isn't the same thing as saying she was a monstrous demon who wanted to end humanity...)
