Thank you for finally doing something on the Commander Max. I'm getting one but was concerned after finding very little videos on them. Glad to hear that it scored so high. I really like them and was hoping to get something that could be used on the trail as well as for work. I'm excited to get mine when it finally comes in.
I have a 2022 commander max XT. And I agree 100% with the issues he noted. Driveline noise is annoying, the seat belts are junk and the driver door does the same thing. Other than that we love the machine. It does everything right. Lots of power, handles great, quiet ride, comfortable cabin and seats. Awesome machine all around. Goes thru mud and water like crazy. We love it and would buy it again.
Awesome review! I have a 22 Commander XT and absolutely love it. It works hard and plays harder, from plowing snow and hauling mulch to exploring Ride Royal Blue, Tackett Creek and Wildcat Off Road Park. I'm glad to see these machines are holding up so well long term and that I wasn't the only one that had the coolant hose issue lol. Thanks for all the great content in your videos, I've learned a lot!
I’m a Yamaha guy ! But I enjoyed the machine comfortable and seemed to handle good for as long as it is for what Im use to running . My only complaint would be the drive line chatter once you get it to that sweet spot in RPMS you wouldn’t even know the difference. But having to try and keep it there I believe definitely takes away from the experience of the machine and if I had just spent 25-28k on a machine probably would be irritated lol. Good news that BRP is going good on them. Like you said there really is no perfect machine and everyone is looking for something different and drives in different conditions. Great review video.
I just paused this and went out and rotated that tab over so it wont rub on the coolant line. Didn't know about the bulletin. Thanks for the info. My worry with this is the length to height getting high centered. I plan to take it 25 miles up a rock creek bed for moose/caribou camp transport and to take the kids out to some glaciers or other trail riding.
The Commander MAX XT is a very stable machine. We’ve had them on a pretty good tilt and never had any issues or close calls. The length actually helps with the stability of the machine.
I have a max XTP and i have every issue you do with the additional seat belt buckle has rubbed a hole in both my front seats. Also that coolant line got a hole rubbed into mine as well but that coolant dripped onto the front header and was actually igniting on fire. Lucky i had an extinguisher. Both my front doors had that latch/rod issue.
Brian, been watching for years! Great content! I just picked up a 2023 Commander Max XT. I was on the fence, but this video and the HUGE price increase of the 2023 RMax4 finalized my decision. Thank you for the insight and honest review! Hope to see you out on the trails as I'm just north of you near the Kentucky line.
Just curious how the stock skid plates have held up for you? I ride Windrock Park for a few days each year and was planning to leave on the stock skid plates, but thought you might have some good insights. Already planning to add A-Arm Guards.
@@FishersOffRoad One more question....has the stock radiator protector worked well? Any issues with rocks or debris damaging the radiator? You probably have rocks that kick-up from running in large groups. Thanks for the great video and responses to my questions!
Good review. Can-Am has known about the seat belt retraction and door handle problem for years and hasn't bothered to address them with presumably simple fixes. Not cool Cam Am.
Hello, I’m picking mine up next week. I was getting a fixed windshield and hard cab. But after your review it sounds like it would get too hot. The fixed windshield came with a washer blade, which is why I was considering. I plan to mostly ride on roads. If it’s raining, is the power up windshield still good? I don’t want to be hot. Not sure if polycarbonate cab is removable or not.
Not sure about a full windshield? It will get warm in the cab for sure. The power flip is great but the windshield with a wiper is always a plus in the rain.
Was thinking about getting a commander max xt...I was wondering if the 700 would have plenty of power or would you get the 1000? Basically would be trail riding.
I was a signature away from buying a Commander Max a few months ago but that darn driveline chatter was such a bummer... The selling dealer was up front about the Can Am repair being more of a band aid than a resolution. Hands down for me it was the most comfortable and it being a hybrid sport / utility was exactly what I was wanting but decided not to buy ONLY cause that darn noise.
There is a permanent fix for the noise now. We’ve installed a new driveshaft and relocated the bearing carrier, NO MORE NOISE! We’re actually getting ready to do a video on it for Can-am. Here is the “Prop Shaft Kit” #703501222 Can-am is telling me “customer needs to do a case. The service department will indicate the next step. “
I watched your RMAX video and then saw this one.. great stuff. I'm in the market for new machine (currently have a Polaris General 4).. 65% of the time, I'm riding solo and want something that is more sporty and can eat up the bumps on fast/rocky trails (H&M trails for example). My 2017 General bottoms out all the time. 35% of the time, i have kids with me so need a 4 seater.. when, i have the kids with me, i don't need room for other cargo and I don't need a dump bed. So, RMAX, KRX4 or Commander max XT in your opinion?
The Commander MAX XT is a great machine! Especially now that they have a drive shaft kit to get rid of the drive line chatter. Also the X3 is another great contender to think about. The RMAX is a great machine as well, may be a little tight in the back and is definitely louder. I have a friend that rents a bunch of KX4’s and he’s not happy with them.
I've been comparing the Max xtp vs the polaris general and came across your video. I think I had my mind settled and you just helped seal the deal. Hopefully picking up this weekend! Thanks for the information!
Amazing review thinking of buying one of this amazing vehicles but can’t decide which to choose Maverick sport max or a commander max if you can compare them would be a very big help for me 😔
Not sure about that? We’ve had a couple other Can-am units break 10K miles and they were still going strong. I think if you do your daily maintenance, clean the air filter on a regular basis you’ll get a lot of miles out of the unit.
Fantastic review! I bought a 2015 Can Am Commander Max Limited brand new and she has never - ever - let me down. Typical blown belt at 3k miles, bent a-arm hitting a rock, etc., but the actual machine itself has been a dream. I am currently in the Market to upgrade my girl to the new Commander, so this video helped A LOT and I thank you. Quick question: the one thing I loved about my Limited form back in the day was the Garmin GPS already built into the dash...what do you recommend for GPS units AND mounts out there, for this unit? Truth be told that little unit has saved my ass a couple times...won't go out without one! Great work, keep it up!
I hear ya, if you have one or two SXSs it really isn’t that big of a deal. But when you’re running 25-30 SXS and new tires are 20K you try to get every mile out of them. Lol
It’s not bad if you don’t run a full windshield in the summer, we run the power flip windshields so we can open when it’s warm or close part way or all the way when it’s raining or hot out.
I just moved off Akin Ridge. Knew I recognized the name. Looking to buy a general or commander 4seater here soon, if it’s cool with you I’d like to stop by and get a few recommendations..
We like the commander XT over the Sport MAX, Sits a little wider & rides better. We only run Commander MAX XT’s now. We got rid of all of our Sport Max’s.
1,000% better!!! The Polaris’s broke down all the time and Polaris never stood behind their warranty. The Can-am’s are solid and we don’t need to tow them back. No belts or clutches on any of the can-am’s, which was a daily issue with our General’s & RZR’s.
We’ve had 20 of these units over the last six months with 6-8K miles on them before replacing them. My review is 100% spot on, appreciate your feedback but the proof is in the time, guest feedback and performance. 👍🏼
Hey bryan do you have any experience with the 700 engines in the commander. On paper the price for what i would get seems like a really good deal. Thanks for any help
That’s a tough one because they’re two totally different machines. My RMAX4 Limited is like a Cadillac! It has everything you could ask for in a luxury SXS. The RMAX4 doesn’t have a dump bed and has a shorter chassis so it drives different than the Commander MAX. In a nut shell, the RMAX4 is more high end with its interior fit & finish. The Commander is quieter in the cab which is a big plus, also easier entry & exit in the rear for passengers. They both run & drive great, it really comes down to what kind of terrain you ride on and what kind of driver you are.
It looks totally doable, the only thing I see you may need to do is cut the bracket in the middle by the shifter going to the passenger seat, unless you wanted to raise both of them. It’s one complete mounting bracket for the drivers & passenger side front seats.
Honestly, in my opinion the Commander MAX XT is the best thing out there in the 4 seat category for what you’re looking for at this time. I have an RMAX4 limited too but it’s definitely louder than the Commander. We like the Commander MAX XT’s so much and have such good service out of them with no issues that we have 15 new units coming in a week or two for our spring fleet.
We sold all of them. I personally still have an RMAX4. We went with Can-am for our rental fleet. The Yamahas were bullet proof and we’ve had great success with Can-am as well. We order 20 new Can-am’s every 4 months, our rental units will have 6-8K miles on them in 4 months.
They’re both very capable machines. The RMAX being a shorter chassis will give you a different ride. The Commander is quieter than the RMAX but as far as fit, finnish, bells & whistles the RMAX 4 limited is in a league of its own.
