Hall marks of this recording are 1.a very vibrant tonal quality of the sitar, 2. Resosance of the sympathetic strings { tarafs } 3. A controlled condition of sound with slight eco effects 4. Composition of bandish with appropriate punch 5. Section of slow tempo madhya laya teental 6. Excellent vazandar theka from Pandit Kishan Maharaj 7. A very balanced rendition by Ustad Vilayat Khan with some off beat execution of taan. This recording is worth listening time and again. Thanks for uploading.
My brother and I each bought a cassette tape with this on it in the early 90's at the old Atlantic Video. Never have we heard such a stellar performance of Alhaiya Bilawal. Never knew who was playing Tabla so fantastically. We do now, thanks to your splendid upload. We saw Vilayat at the Meyerson in Dallas with his son Shujat. Never will forget it. Master Vilayat pulled a meend on Re at one point which was so powerful we could hardly believe it.
Raga Alhaya bilaval is good for mental health......Really refreshing and gives happiness......❤️Aisa lagthaa hey...Sundar bargeche me tahalrahee hay......😊
Started to listen to him in the middle 1960s. Bought all the records I could get hold of. Heard him in Stockholm, divine! I have a very very rare recording of him playing. The father of one of my friends secretly recorded a concert at the Taj Mahal Palace hotel in Bombay in the late 1960s or early 1970s. It is incredible just like this Concert. How lucky we are to have so many great indian musicians and masters.
Phenominal! No accolades are sufficient nor do justice to describe this performance. His Purya is even better. In the Persian tradition "QISSA GOYI" is an art of relating stories in an enchanting and mesmirizing manner. Ustad Vilayath Khan does this through his music.
Well, puriya and alaiya bilawal were played in same approach, same technique! Both are ustadji's great performances. Another breathtaking performance is darbari kanara where Pt. Shankar Ghosh ji accompanied on tabla. All these are milestones...
Bhara Huva Theka was the words of Ustad Vilayat Khan when I was fortunate to have spend 12 hour a day for 7 days in 80’s and had open conversation with him.

I wonder if he has ever rendered a dull Raag in his life. At least I haven't heard him playing a dull Raag. ...... I always am very curious about the psyche of a past-master. Namita Debi Dayal has unravelled that to some extent in her biography of Vilayat Khan. It's title is "The Sixth String". But I have a feeling that much more remains to be unearthed! This photo on the video of Vilayat Khan in his younger days is rare. One thing I am intrigued about is why Vilayat Khan and his son Shujat seperated when the latter was only ten years old!
Thanks, Sir! No accolades are enough for what you're doing! waiting for the Pooriya ... Also, can you upload the full Darbari afresh from the vinyl? The HMV CD has this unpardonable pitch control defect between the two sides of this recording.
Longtime ago in 1977-78 I bought an LP in London that had both Purina and Bilawal by Vilayat Sahib. Listening to it bring back memories of joy and ecstacy- a hallmark only attributable to the great Khansahib, RIP.
@@javiercisternasnajle Nikhil da was no doubt a great sitarist but just after Vilayat sahab and Annapurna Devi.....Nikhilda has more musical content in almost any piece he played than any other player. But the sweetness of Vilayat khan is beyond any comparison...

The simplicity and reasonless happiness of bilawal. Haven't heard any rendition Express it so clearly like ustadji's and Shahid parvez jee's.

An inspired Vilayat Khan is probably the best sitar one can have the privilege of hearing; this is one of them. Thanks for uploading.

Wah, Subhanallah Kia baat. Thanks for the upload.
This is definitely one of Vilayat Khan's best performances. Thanks for uploading. Who is accompanying on tablas?
The late great Kishan Maharaj of the Benares Gharana.
Pt. Kishen Maharaj ji on tabla.
Words can't explain___
This is next level 🙏

I meant Puriya not Purina, sorry!
Who is on tabla with the maestro ? Pandit Samtaprasadji ?
Pt Kishan maharaj
I think some spiritual power plucked the string in favour of him. unbelievable.
This is the EMI LP. Puriya on the other side. Jaw-dropping virtuosity.

The best sitarist and the best tablâ player
Nikhil banerjee and Hussain khan
