I liked most of the ending to AoT but I definitely saw parts to improve and parts that need to be taken away completely. However, Isayama ended AoT almost two years ago and he's had to endure so much backlash to the point where he's on an apology tour everytime he makes a public appearance. I think the man has endured enough and surely apologized enough. Leave him be. He may never want to write and/or draw a manga ever again after what he's been through and that's sad. At some point in his life being a mangaka was his passion and avenue for a fulfilling life and career. Now that dream could be over.

Never taught I’ll spend entire evenings talking with them about a work that is not part of the curriculum. I mostly sat and listened at first, i wanted to hear their perspective before i could even “influence” them with my opinions.

Nah, he's trolling us, he made the last chapters horrible on purpose, in some scenes and dialogs it is just so obvious... If you go really really deep into the plot, character's motives, the movies and games he was based on, and other references, you will see that it all makes sense, and ending in the anime will be different, in order to complete the story. Trust me, I've read many theories, and it is so well-thought that there's no way that it's a coincidence. To really understand most things in aot you must especially pay attention to little detailes of dialogs throughout the whole story and references (even in some character's design, in openings, music videos for them, the lyrics of many soundtracks etc). It's hard to believe, but it was planned long ago.

The ending told the story just fine. It had its pacing and narrative issues, for sure, but is it so hard to imagine that the anime MIGHT expand on the ending to make it settle a bit better? Even if it doesn't, the worst rating the ending should get is "could've been much better", not "ahh it's disgusting and ruined the whole story ahh." That's just ridiculous.
But! Even if you feel like, FOR YOU, the ending was absolute garbage, do you gotta try to force everyone else to agree with you? Clearly there's a huge chunk of the fanbase that disagrees. Let them enjoy what they think they like about it.

I think what people are taking away from this isn't that death threats should be taken seriously, but that people think they're not a big deal to toss around. Even suggesting that Isayama deserved all the hate he got is way too far, in my opinion. I can imagine he lost a lot of sleep as a result of how the fandom treated him for the ending, and whether or not the criticisms being levied are justified absolutely does not excuse the harsh treatment he received. People jumped way past the line of criticism and into the waters of hate speech.
The original reason I posted this comment was because I literally saw someone say that he was kinda asking for the death threats at that point, and I was deeply upset by it. I hope my point is coming across. Idc how baseless and unserious death threats might seem, they can still be extremely hurtful depending on the circumstances.

Isayamas message after he apologized was to always go with what you want even if you fail because then you’ll know you were true to yourself. Personally I think he apologized not fully because of the reaction but because he changed things in his original idea for the story in hopes of pleasing everyone and it didn’t work out. Isayama and his editors have been shown to be on different pages regarding the story Isayama also stated he read a lot of online reviews and theories while writing the last arc. I can’t imagine that kind of regret.

Such as in 139 Eren said he plunged his friends into a fight without knowing they’d survive and also said even if he didn’t know the outcome he would’ve done the rumbling because his desire is to flatten the world. I think it’s more accurate to say he gave up what he truly wanted to give his friends a “future” despite there being better answers for letting his friends live a long life such as the euthanasia plan and the 50 year plan. It wouldn’t matter what happens after his friends were dead since Paradis gets destroyed shortly after they died anyway. Sigh.. if you think about it too much it starts to get frustrating

The reason I turned to like the ending of AOT is because how meta it got. The ending and story of AOT was about how life is not set in one perspective but can have many. Whatever you did for whatever reason, u will have to live on with that burden, guilt, and responsibility. And there will always be people who will believe and pursue peace and love no matter how ugly that even gets too. The first manga ending of the story really seemed to hope that the fans would get that message.
But of course... that did not happen. Many people got mad for both sides and basically warred among each other. Eventually the author released that other ending later. I always love to imagine the whole situation to be an experiment of the author... maybe he waited to see how we reacted to that first ending... but after seeing that we, "the biggest fans" did not get the moral of the story, he gave us the second ending, which was what we deserved. And this whole situation and meta narrative really made me a HUGE fan of the endings actually lol

Experiencing the end of AoT real time was heartbreaking because I realized that I expected literal perfection from a human being and was disappointed when he didn’t give me exactly what I wanted.
I remember obsessing in middle school and almost all of high school because of how he produced ACTUAL PERFECTION back to back on a page. I had never seen anything like it (and then I read berserk) and the chokehold it held on my life was insane to the point where I caught myself crying because one day my favorite characters in my favorite manga would kind of “end” or stop doing anything new. When the manga finally ended, I realized that I was kind of okay with it and I moved on just fine. But what hurts the most is to see the fanbase being so split after the ending. This is something I have NEVER seen in any other story like that. There are people who hated the ending so much, that they insulted Isayama and sent him death threats, which is completely unacceptable. On the other side there are people who defended the ending at all costs and proclaimed it to be the best ending possible, which it is clearly not. There were just too many flaws in the end. I can only imagine this happened, because AOT was such a perfectly written story, so everyone had such high expectations for the end. My hope is that the anime will clear some things up and maybe go more into detail, so that people who liked or disliked the ending can still enjoy it in the anime. I wish they fleshed out ymir a bit more, reiner being a simp for historias handwriting is kinda funny cuz in s2 he said "I wanna marry this girl". So that makes sense.
A bit rushed but with the anime it will be better and better paced. Eldia gettin nuked shouldn't be added. Like adding that in kinda makes Eren's journey pointless, and all the deaths in AOT as a whole included. Who knows, we may get an AOE ending cuz the outro for s4 part 2 is odd. Like eldia is abandoned, erens the only one there etc. Like MAPPA why make that? Also there is a few lines in the manga which weren't added in the anime (one of the eps of the paths) so who knows what that could mean. In the ep with the shards of the future there is 2 shards which isnt in the manga as well.
Overall i love AOT and eren as a character. AOE ending or the ending we got in the manga is fine by me. I just hope its a bit slower paced and a bit more fleshed out. N hopefully they don't add the extra pages where eldia gets nuked.

@@JohnRed Bruh, this is not a series that spells stuff out to you. You need actual knowledge in literature to be able to look at what things actually mean. I'll go point by point.
1: Falco inheriting the jaw made sense and we know that changes to titans happen depending on the user. His name is literally Falco, the whole arc brought up the advancements in air technology, plus it's not like he's a broken plot device that can carry tons of people, he has a clear limit. For someone who Eren compared himself to when they first met it makes sense that his titan represents freedom.
2: Eren was stuck in a time loop. Because his future self influenced things before he was born, there's nothing he can do about it. Ever since he kissed Historia's hand he'd seen bits and pieces of what he was going to do. We can tell from his reaction after Sasha died that he really didn't know of everything to come and that he cursed his fate. He knew he couldn't change the future. When he talked to Armin and Mikasa he was trying to push them away. He knew he'd die in the end.
3: The rumbling was also drastic enough for both sides of the war (the reasonable people at least) to come together to stop it. And it's not like they just got along. First of all if there's something threatening your family and the entire world that you can stop I think you'll try to get along, but also they shit on eachother a ton here. Eventually they understood that their the same but they never fully forgave eachother, they just came to enough of a mutual agreement to finish the job. The group is legitimately made out of the strongest fighters that we know of in the entire series. They all have battle experience and training too. Especially the Marleyans. While some titans from many generations ago might have their old ass war tactics, not these guys. Eren knew that he couldn't change the fact that the rumbling would happen so he had the "heroes" come to kill him so that the remainder of the world would see that only Eren was the issue and that the other Eldians were heroes (this would only last so long however, but it makes a big difference).
Gonna have to make this 2 comments to address everything

    • @bmxgu2361
      @bmxgu2361 Год назад

@@JohnRed 4: As I said Eren was trapped by the future and had to push his friends away. Since he had to do the rumbling the fastest way to get there was to use Zeke and people who would blindly follow him like Flock. By taking over the government he was able to make his friends hate him enough for them to work together with the warriors to take him down, and it also gave him enough free reign to take control of the situation without having higher ups trying to do things like have Historia inherit the beast titan.
5: When Eren talked to Reiner, he was trying to show how he realized the moral grey zone and their similarities. Reiner didn't know any better and had to do it for his own freedom as well as his family and community, while Eren had to do it to protect his people and family, as well as was forced to go to the lengths that he went due to the attack titan's power.
6: Why was there a time loop in the first place? Well it was because Ymir had what's known as Stockholm Syndrome. This is where the abused eventually develops feelings for the abuser. In this case the abuser is the king. Ymir trapped by the trauma she had faced that she thinks of as "love" stayed in the paths. However a small bit of her wanted to be free. She could not mentally do it herself however so she got Eren to do it for her. We know this because Eren asks Ymir when they first meet if she's the one who lead him there. She just wanted to find someone to help free herself from the pain.
7: Eren was a pretty stubborn crybaby at times in the past in the series, but obviously as he learned more about the world he changed. And when he learned the future he got really depressed because of what had to be done. He had to put up a front because of the future. We know he still cared. He said it himself in the Marley flashback. He had to hide his emotions and when he was finally free of his burden he could remove that mask. He hated having to dedicate his life to this future instead of just running away with Mikasa. He wished they could all just have a normal life. He's a human being like all of us. Of course he feels this way. He finally gets to talk to Mikasa one last time, and though we don't see what they say in paths we know that he reciprocated his feeling by the way Mikasa gave him a kiss goodbye as he died.
8: Everything here made perfect sense I believe that the confusion has to do with the fact that the series has attracted a mainstream shonen audience because of the previous seasons and they're just not used to that kind of literary complexity in their series. This was answer but needed to cover everything you brought up

@@bmxgu2361 You are intentionally pretending to not understand things so you can trick yourself into not hating the series after what Isayama has done to it.
Your defense for Falco turning into a bird is that ''it made sense that he inherited the jaw'' and that his name is Falco. The jaw titan isn't a bird and the beast titan doesn't multiply and turn everyone else into beast titans. Titan shifter powers mixing and multiplying didn't exist in the story at any point until Isayama wanted to pull it out of his ass for a cheap twist and make Falco relevant for the last few chapters.
Falco turning into a bird because his name is Falco(n) is incredibly shitty writing and isn't defensible. This isn't supposed to be a comedy series.
The time loop fan theory cop-out doesn't exist in the manga. It's something people made up to explain why nothing Eren does makes any sense.
Your defense for why Eren did this is that he wanted to show the world that only he is the problem and other Eldians were the heroes, yet he made a cult worshipping him and overthrew the Paradis government so now Yeagerists control all of Paradis island, so actually if anyone comes to Paradis they'll find a totalitarian Eren worshipping government that wants all non-Eldians killed and thinks the only problem with killing 80% of the world is that Eren didn't finish the other 20%.
Eren killed most of the world's population, killed his friends, destroyed the planet's ecosystem and doomed his own people to be brutally murdered, captured, tortured, enslaved, all for no reason. His reason for doing this is ''I don't know why I did that'' and ''I like that scenery.'' Your reason for him doing this is ''muh time loop.'' Eren even destroyed the one nation that Paradis was allied to which made all their weapons and traded with them.

-I’m one of the fans that was angry about the ending. -
For me, and I think a lot of people who feel that the ending messed up the story. It doesn’t seem like it was an accident. It doesn’t even seem like an ending the author would want. In what world does the main character turn from a man of complete resolve and love for his people even if it means the distraction of the world. To a simp for a girl who has attempted to get close to him the entire show, armin slapping him, Eren lost resolve, the titan problem unsolved… what… no one and I mean no one. Even remotely thinks that a good ending. I think most people who are upset with the ending feel the same because it is probably an attempt to continue a series that should have come to an end. The most beautiful series an all of anime. SHOULD END, this can’t become a one piece or naruto we’re the creator just keep making episodes to make more money. END THE SERIES and END IT RIGHT. If you want more money make another series. But we believe even the creator when writing it doesn’t believe the ending was good

    • @triton5336

Eren simping isn't even a problem because it just adds to the motivation of a man who wants to destroy humanity the problem I have with the relationship is how it is used to parallel a relationship that is completely different in Ymir and King fritz for obvious Reasons unless somehow The abuser and slave loved each other like how Eren And Mikasa does. Making Eren's Death completely stupid and POINTLESS when He could have just talk to Ymir (she is obviously not retarded...)

See, when you unironically believe Eren is a simp when Mikasa is included in a breakdown to any capacity, that's why people tend to roll their eyes at people who don't like the ending, not because you don't like the ending period.
Because it feels like you're deleting crucial elements from your brain just to make this angle work, that Eren did this all because of being a simp or a cuck or whatever buzzword Reddit is using.
I believe it's a good ending because Eren died BECAUSE of his resolve. Not because he had a lack of it. His eleutherophilic march was ever only going to end in tragedy because what he wanted was never going to coexist with anyone else that wasn't him or his friends.
And Isayama and his editor already said they had no plans on continuing the series, so I don't understand where that is coming from. Or that the Titan powers are back because the tree Eren was buried under looks the same ? Not to mention that's not how it works, the Origin of All Life was there for ages so it isn't the tree itself that is what causes it. No, the tree is symbolic of the forest that the generation we followed were lost in. What led to Paradis' destruction. All of that. The child represents the generation after. And it's left ambiguous if he will enter said forest and get lost in it.

Aot was my reemergence back into the anime community after taking a long hiatus from the anime community. The first 93 chapters had some of the best storytelling that I have seen in modern day anime since the early days of Berserk and HXH. The characters, the world building, the interactions and relationships of the characters felt nuanced with a hint of realism. The series launched itself into masterpiece status with those chapters alone. However, the storytelling definitely took a hit after the Marley arc. The last few arcs definitely suffered from a rushed deadline and a creative burnout from Isayama, I wished the publishers gave the guy a huge break before starting the final saga of his story. Attack on titan has its flaws but I still appreciate it as an iconic story that has inspired old and new mangaka with their stories. To name a few examples Chainsaw man, Jujutsu Kaisen, Dandadan, and Kaiju No.8. I have my grievances with the ending, but I won’t go into details.
I still appreciate the story and its message. In ten years I’ll read this story again, and appreciate its storytelling and the flaws that it had. If and when Isayama does release a new manga, I will be there to support his next endeavors.

We can agree that Ch 126 was very rushed, and it could've been done better especially since it's the beginning of the alliance, but to tell the truth it's the only major issue in this last stretch, everything that came later was done in a better writing especially the death of the characters, the insane plot twists and how they connected with some things that were foreshadowed in the past and not to mention many inconic scenes as well
So the flaws you're talking about are nothing compared to the actual flaw in the characterisation of ch 126, because aside from that everything else was meant to happen whether you liked it or not lol
(Ik Isayama considers Armin's dialogue with Eren as something he could've wrote in a better way, and tbh he's right but even so Ch 139 had a lot of memorable moments such as the clever decision of making Eren & Armin talk as their younger selfs and then grow up while seeing the world destroyed, as well as the last panels that described the peace around the world and last but not least the famous 9 panels which were the last missing puzzle in his story, and they contributed a lot of realism to his masterpiece and it was needed
Now moving to the most ridiculous thing, do you seriously still compare the people who enjoyed the ending (and rightfully so) with those who clowned Isayama and pretended to write better endings while they were nothing but literal shit ? Lmao
If your answer is still yes, then that's concerning and I have nothing say to you but to ensure you that the anime will adapt this amazing ending in the most beautiful way possible...
So good luck with living with that in 2023 lol

Isayama himself doesn't seem to have a concern over it. Infact he encouraged it actually. They aren't the problem with the fandom. Those fans who think the ending is a masterpiece and that their opinion and their interpretation is the most valid and supreme are the problem. They prevent any constructive criticisms of the manga.
The flaws are never nothing. A bigger flaw in story writing doesn't make the smaller ones disappear. Flaw in characterization and pacing can be tolerated to some extent but how do you tolerate the basic flaws in logic and reasoning itself. Falco controlling the jaw Titan in a matter of days, Infinite gas supply, Past Titans including Kruger who was an eldian nationalist himself going against eren at last minute, how the wall Titans didn't go on a rampage when Zeke was decapitated and so on... These are not flaws in characterization or pacing, these flaws go against what's established previously in the manga itself.

I love this series very much but the story became so frustrating every time I remember something good and something I liked something that’s terrible and I heavily disliked is right next to it. I’m disappointed in the story and I feel sorry for it but I’ve left my anger and frustration behind me but every once and awhile someone from the fandom sneaks their way back in and causes that same frustration. I don’t even know how it’s possible that Isayama created a story where two people can think it’s a vastly different story despite reading the same material. It’s poor execution and it lead to the most toxic community I’ve ever seen. I hope after some years past the fandom will thin out and leave.

Love the channel man. I also love AOT but really hated the ending. I'd love to have a calm, rational and respectful back and forth with people about these few unanswered questions that really keep me from loving the ending. So if you're gonna be a jerk face because I don't like the ending to your favorite manga, go for it. But I'm being genuine with my questions and want good faith feedback.
    1. How did Mikasa see different memories of her and Eren? I thought the entire point of the Ackerman's was that they're super strong and their memories can't be altered by the founding Titan?
    2. How does it make sense that Historia had a baby with her childhood bully? Where's the narrative consistency there with her character?
    3. Eren dies? Fine. Eren loved Mikasa? Fine. But how TF is my man supposedly a bird? There are so many weird things with birds in this series when it comes to memories and none of it gets answered.
    4. Armin, Armin, Armin... What was the quote of his? "To surpass monsters, you have to discard your humanity" Is this not what Eren was trying to do? And Armin wanted to stop him? I really don't get it.
    5. Ymir Fritz had Stockholm syndrome and loved King Fritz?? And what's the connection between her and Mikasa? How does this make Mikasa the actual main character that Ymir cared about and not Eren? Him being the one that freed her and agreed to help destroy the world?
    6. With the additional pages added after the final chapter we get to see the island destroyed. A new "Titan Tree" with a kid approaching it and presumably gaining the powers of the Titans (or else why show that at all?). Doesn't this prove Eren was right to destroy his enemies? All of his friends and their families have been killed for sure now.
Thank you in advance for reading this. I'm also assuming there is no AOE, so in my opinion all of these questions should have been answered in the current material.

Thanks for being chill and reasonable. A lot of people in this fanbase are horribly toxic and would send death threats over disliking the ending.
      1. I'm not sure about this one to be honest, I have not read the manga in a long time. But I'm confident in the rest.
      2. Historia seemed to be moving forward with the plan to give birth to people to inherit the titan/keep the royal blood going, which was one of Paradis' main proposals. So she started giving birth.
      3. Eren isn't a bird. The manga doesn't say this anywhere. The bird thing has become a huge meme, but it is most likely just symbolism. There is no good reason to believe Eren is a bird.
      4. The problem with this is that Eren is murdering tons of innocent people outside the walls that have absolutely nothing to do with whats going on. Children, pregnant women, random nations of people, etc. Tons of those people aren't "monsters." So the quote doesn't apply here whatsoever.
      5. This is something I don't understand people saying. She didn't have stockholm syndrome. Ymir lived most of her life as a slave and that became literally her mentality. She wanted to be loved, desperately so, since she felt like no one had loved her any longer. By this point, she was desperately seeking affection and love and tried to turn to King Fritz for it. It's not supposed to be a good thing. It's because she has a warped sense of love and is desperate to be cared about by someone.
      6. My interpretation is that the tree and a kid approaching it is supposed to represent the neverending cyclical nature of hatred/war in humanity. The cycle of hatred. It definitely seems to show that as long as humans exist, there will always be fighting and conflict. This is most likely the meaning of the extra pages. Eren was not right, he was going to murder millions upon millions of completely innocent people. Besides, Eren's main focus was achieving his childish sense of freedom described in Armin's book.

@@red.4712 thank you for taking the time to respond to my questions! And yeah, as an ending hater I fully disown all of the crack pots making death threats. I do have some further questions though if you don’t mind further indulging me.
      1. Yeah, this was just plain weird to me.
      2. I understand what you’re saying here, I guess I just hate that she’s having kids due to an obligation and with someone she obviously doesn’t love. Now she does obviously love her kid, but the husband circumstance rubs me wrong.
      3. I mean, Eren did say he’d wrap her scarf around her as many times as she wants and the only next time that happens is with a bird at Erens grave. Sure, maybe it’s just coincidence but it had to be shown at that point for some reason right?
      4. I think I agree with you here.
      5. I understand your interpretation for sure. My issues are that what you’re saying (if true) isn’t spelled out at all. And how do her feelings towards Fritz translate to Mikasa and Eren in the slightest? How’s does Mikasa killing Eren end the curse and make Ymir happy?
      6. This is probably my biggest disagreement. So what’s the message of the story? Killing innocent people is wrong (I mean, obviously I’m saying Eren was “good” for doing the rumbling), AND Armin failed in making a better future for everyone in the aftermath of the rumbling? So we should not bother doing anything because at the end of the day the cycle of violence can never be stopped as long as more than 1 person is alive on the whole planet? I’m fine with Eren being killed and being stopped because what he’s doing is terrible. But Armin should’ve at least been able to make it all worth it in the end.

@@graysenm1320 I feel ya man, but that's not even scratching the surface. There's so much in the story that's just done poorly to the point of hilarity, I can't see how anyone would like it unless they haven't read as much better written stuff or just coped way too much. From the moment Eren talked to his dad back in time the story already had to be going down a narrow path, and by not having the deal with time travel be through parallel worlds instead of nonsensical paradox-riddled slave to fate closed loop timeline garbage, the story was made obsolete. From the point where it was confirmed that yes indeed many of his core motivation that carried meaning (like parents betting killed) and so much more were made into a plot device for a closed loop that can never make sense unless you explain your shit extremely well. And even then I'd be skeptical! Naturally, even this alien thing deliberately wasn't explained, much less how any of the fucking mechanics of the world work to try and make sense out of it all. When you make stories about "fate vs free will" like this you have to separate the two very clearly. And when you even suggest that one of the only reasons people still care for your story (and most of the stories in general), your characters, into non-characters, making your main character suddenly have no agency for the entirety of your story, stripping away their character in the first place (leaving them as a plot device), you better make sure that you do it SO well or turn it around so nice that you can win over the readers and not throw it all in the garbage. It's super risky and not worth it a lot of the times. There's so much wrong in the ending besides that whole bs to list on top of that: Mikasa being a bland plot device instead of being a properly developed character (same with Historia and Ymir), Armin bs being entirely unrealistic the whole way through, and that's only what comes to mind first. All of the potential greatness with revenge plots/character redemption arcs with Eren/Ymir went to shit and the point of the story by the end was completely shallow while pretending it's deep. The original ending was so absurdly idealistic in the worst ways. Isayama and his famously ending changes from his original plan due to watching GotG were executed like a wet fart. If he was going for the more hopeful and meaningful situation, despite Eren and potentially many others dying, he could've done it so much better. And in fact, it's so easy, you can probably think of a better ending yourself. It's no wonder there are so many alternative ending chapters/solutions after the story ended for poorly. Just for fun, around the time ending shitstorm was going on, I myself decided to think how I would've taken the direction of the story to prove to myself I could do it and address many of the issues I had, and it was super easy to at least outline a better version that's not a simple chapter 139 redo as the other fan-endings were offering. The original ending was so obviously going to turn out meaningless with the island destroyed by not wiping the rest of the planet out but it kept up the false hope. The extra chapters brought it down to earth into a believable realism again for a little bit, but in the end did much wrong. Among other stuff I won't get into here, it confirmed the ideas of Floch and all the people who fought for the island and their people (however ruthlessly) being in their own way correct all along. And the overall meaninglessness of the story was even more apparent than after the original final chapter. As much as some people get accused of being Floch dick-riders, some just don't understand that the point/perspective "Eren" represented stopped counting once you realize he had no free will in the first place. Bringing up Floch as another leading figure alongside Eren's fake perspective of defending his home to make arguments for due to Floch being the only one left after Eren got his character assassinated. It was so one-sided the whole way through when the AoT Avengers chapters were in full swing and Eren's perspective wasn't executed well at all after that much anticipation as it turns out the is no POV we were led to believe in and it was opted out for slave to fate bullshit that makes none of the actions the main character made up until this point coherent in the least. Just because you had to kill other innocent people to do right by your innocent people doesn't make Floch more wrong than the people who were trying to exterminate their innocent people in this absurd situation if it's all meaningless in the end anyway. War is always hell, you cannot avoid any of that. This was always a war of perspective and Isayama could've handled it in a mature, realistic way, acknowledging and accepting that in a war you need to become ruthless and calculating in order to win or/and survive for the sake of your humanity, even if in the end you will lose it. You cannot sugarcoat it like that when you go for the level of realism AoT wanted to go for in this final war arc. Cycle of war/violence isn't remarkable by itself, it needs characters. The fact that the conflict will always continue forever in a cycle does not matter as much as the questions like "what do you in a war", "what/who will you focus on during it" or/and "what can you do to try and stop it anyway?" You need to make SOMETHING out of it, but the time travel bullshit undermined it all. War is about humanity struggling with a lot of stuff, yet Eren was inhuman to participate in this thematic discussion because he's got no free will and is a walking paradox. A tool to make this meaningless story happen, as it turns out. Everyone in the war that at least had something to fight for were more meaningful in going to war with an least a drive to protect someone they hold dear instead of someone like Eren watching and "acting" out his role while he knows the past, present and future and apparently can interact with the past without breaking cause and effect... while also being a slave to fate and not able to do anything? If Eren could not change anything and is a slave to fate despite being able to change everything through the titans, then how the fuck does his setup/plan with his friends defeating him even possible? In theory, there are ways of fixing it like actually explaining how the alien parasite was something that exists outside of the universe's laws that could make all of this nonsensical bullshit possible with explaining in detail how the laws of this fictional universe work differently from our own in such way where it would be making sense, but Isayama couldn't think that far as a way out of that corner he wrote himself into. You cannot have a character-driven story pull this bullshit without explaining anything. And so the story stopped being character-driven at the end, the lack of proper care for the characters shows that. The theme of "war/violence bad" among other thing shouldn't really be too hard to make good, but Isayama fucked it up so bad it's astounding. As much as the people can feel it's sad for the author apologizing or feeling bad by the story or the ending they wrote, sometimes it's necessary. There were times when great manga would not have been made as good without someone else to keep some amount of the author's eccentricity in check, we know that. Editors can often fuck up the story just as much as the author himself would without them. We can only cope the anime will do it extremely well instead of keeping this rushed-to-death ending and trying to improve on it in ways too small to make a difference. But even if it won't do that, it will at least be hilarious to see.

I think this is my first time back on your channel since you put out your review for the final chapter and series as a whole. I have to say firstly that my opinion on the ending remains largely unchanged, there are elements I was fine with and those I weren't and generally felt the ending was average. While watching this video here though (half way through as I type this) I am glad you made this video because I've felt this has been needed since the manga ended for sure. I remember coming to your channel every time a new chapter dropped to watch your review videos, also engaging in discord servers and other comment sections here on YT, the pure excitement and joy those moments brought me.
Then I remember reading the final chapter and I remember still kind of processing it and going back and re-reading certain panels over and over again until I had really processed everything. That usual excitement and anticipation of the conversations to come was still there and when I went looking to discuss and engage in the discussion all I found was what could only be described, in my eyes at least, a microcosm of the warring world in Attack On Titan itself. I handled this badly myself and kind of leaned into the camp that "liked" the ending, mostly because I had no overt issues that made me feel the entire narrative prior was undermined. This of course did nothing but to fan the flames and I quickly realized my flaw and just shut down, basically not engaging in any discourse about the series as much as I could.
I really am hopeful that when anime onlies see the ending animated that they respond better than the manga community did. The was a kind of black hole that was created by the kind of war of opinions on the ending of the series among the manga readers and so it is like we never got to have that true feeling we had gotten all series at the very end and you don't get those moments back. The time to have good civil discourse and talk about it for all its strengths and flaws was when it ended. Anyway I feel like I am rambling here and want to finish hearing what you have to say, always loved your AOT content my guy and you were the only review I watched of chapter 139 after all the chaos had begun.
