Starting to fence in our vegetable garden.

- Today we are starting to fence in our garden area. We are setting the rest of the fence posts around the vegetable garden. Then we are going to cut the fence posts off at the correct height to install the top rail of the fence. The garden in on uneven terrain and it slopes downhill. So the fencing will stair step down the hill, just like our garden beds do.

As your auger goes down let your tractor roll forward just a little bit you will get a straight hole
Good job. I would definitely install tractor gates, it will pay off in the long run.
Definitely add a double gate for tractor - but it will look fabulous when it's complete. Every day those pups need training, never miss a day, they are intelligent and will be a nuisance if not rigorously trained. A good job for those rainy days.
I wanted to post in the other video of you setting the pole that auger is nice set the auger on point let it set then nudge the tractor up a bit it will level up during the dig and make life easier but doing a great job!

For tractor access maybe build a 2x4 frame/panel to fit between two of your posts. Fence/wire mesh the frame/panel separate from the rest of the wire fencing and just use 6 or 8 screws to secure that frame between the posts. Remove the entire frame/panel when you need access, leave in place the rest of the year. Really a nice job on your garden !

Hey Evan just a little idea if you put your tractor in neutral while you're doing the Audrey it will go forward slowly and your auger will stay straight. Keep your foot lightly on the break and you'll see what I mean

Garden looks awesome! That is exactly what I need to do with my garden area. I have a dog that also loves to run straight through the garden and chickens that love to eat all my baby plants. Keep up the good work!
The tractor makes the job of digging post holes so much easier. When I was 15 my uncle paid me and the kid across the street to install about 10 posts to connect two fences. Wasn't worth the money but that fence is still there 40 years later. Keep posting pics Evan. God Bless.

Looks really nice, love the stepdown of the fence. The dogs are adorable but I know they can be annoying when pups, thank god they do grow up and you reach a level where you can trust them. Looks like you will have a bountiful garden. Good Luck.
Good morning Evan and Rebecca, looking good around there. Might suggest you make your tractor gate in two removable parts or a couple gates so you can till the inner garden each year. Hopefully you can teach the dogs to stay out of the garden areas . Thanks for sharing with us, you’re all doing great. Fred.

Evan, the new fence is looking good. For your tractor entrance, consider making it a stand alone panel that would only take a few screws to take off. That way you dont have roll up the half of the fence. Those pups are too funny!
Be easier in long term to build gates for the tractor opening too, you will use it more than you think, bringing in compost etc
also think gate will be best. you can easily brace to next line post.

I would suggest doing it right the first time and build a gate for the tractor to go through. Been there done that.Youtune doesn’t lets editing.
JudithB I would put a tractor gate in. You could plant stuff in big buckets for in front of the gate if you needed to! I plant some toms and peppers in big pots so I can move them into my little greenhouse for winter.

Tractor Gates! My garden has two of them, so i can get in and out on two sides. They are 8 feet wide so i can pull in with a trailer load of compost.

why not simply build a gate to get the tractor through.....sounds like a better solution than ripping the fence down.
Why not just invest in a garden tiller save the tractor for the wide open spaces ?
Not being critical but if you angle your posts to Shed water and you put your top boarding on the side you will still have good fencing.love your journey.
Maybe a fence panel that is built the same but different...lol

Wow, your garden fencing is impressive and your videos are always so enjoyable, so thank you. I hope you get the weather break you need to finish the fencing the way you'd like. In the meantime, can you keep the pups on leash just long enough to get it done?
P.S. For what it's worth, I really enjoy your videos as filmed. Background music is not necessary for me, especially when it seems RUclipsrs have limited choices via YT. That in turn means the same music gets used over and over and over. People like me end having to mute over and over and over, or quit following favorite channels when it becomes too much. The sounds around homesteads like yours are the real music to my ears.
Suggestion, since you are a pretty good carpenter, instead of having to disconnect and roll back the fence why not make a slip channel on the fence posts where you can slip a framed fence section in and out to make way for the tractor?
my opinion is that dismantling fence every time you need tractor in that garden is not the best idea eventually that constant rolling in and out will destroy it a simple cheap gate would be a better solution even if you make it as one panel in between two post that you can just hang up and down when ever you need it

Take two consecutive, even sections and turn them into a gate for the tractor to go through. They will match the rest of the fence but be able to open. At least in theory ; > )

They pay attention where they are going when they get against that shock wire.
Side note: Never mix your cement in the ground. If you do, you can expect that cement to crack and crumble as the dirt around it settles and moves. Yes, it will move. Then your post will be loose, and you've got to set your posts all over again. If you want something to last, you have to build it to last. But of course if you're homesteading, everything you do will be nothing more than makeshift.
Either go no dig, or buy a small rotovater. If the fence is just because of the dogs, put netting around it, your plants get more light too.

ok i am 58 years old, and bought my country land cash when i was 18, was nothing but bush at the time, if you seen my videos, you know a lot of it is feild now, my live stock live in the woods and feilds, i started from nothing, i caant help but every new young usa couple that has a small farm there building here on you tube, why they have 50 Lb bags of stuff of lumber, or any heavy stuff to unload or load, they part the truck, or truck and trailer a hundred feet away from were in needs to be dropped or loaded, and they carry 50lb bags, heavy lumber, wood stoves, you name it, i not sure if they just dont know any better due to the fact they come from the city, or they have had so much education, comon sence has been struck from them. i know my self, i rather move the truck 10 times then kill my self, to were years down the road i really pay for it, if i did that well building my life, i sure would not enjoy it today, also, you can always tell a person that has moved to the country, from the city, they must have a tractor, yet the have lots of area, but they make a tiny garden, that will feed them maybe though the late summer when things are ready, but nothing to carry them though to the next fall harvist, they have a tractor to make an keep up a huge garden, but know, first thing i built on my land after the long drive way, to set me way back off the road, was a shed, to store tools, eqipment and to later put my main 200 amp hydro service panel in, to feed all other building that will come later, with out having to make changes, then i built a big under ground root cellar, then the gardens came, every fall a 1000lbs of potatoes are stored in the root cellar, that stay like the day you dug them up, right in to the fall of the next year, along with tons of other garden stored food, and stays so cold i hang my sides of beef and pork in it for 10 days, as wel to keep my big tubs of meat an fish brines in that meat will stay in for 7 to 15 days before smoking, totaly free cooling year round
