Dr. Rank that would actually hold in court, tbh. When a DUI ends with a death, it’s generally ruled as vehicular manslaughter because the driver “acted with reckless disregard for life.” If you were driving above the legal limit for BAC and the brake line failed just before the accident, a good lawyer could prove that it was an accidental homicide (i.e. it could’ve happened to anybody) instead of manslaughter. You’d have to go to trial because the prosecution would argue that you knew the brake line was busted and the alcohol impaired you from realizing that, but it could be proven (if cameras recorded you stopping at lights, for example). The DUI charge will stick because you were obviously driving under the influence, but the vehicular manslaughter charge is definitely winnable albeit with like 50-50 odds of acquittal.

Lately I extremely often look at people and realize somebody of the show in random humans
When you think about it, Barney actually has a lot of depth and character development... that sort of went down the drain after the writers decided to make him a running gag. Alcoholism is such a serious issue, and the earlier seasons perfectly encapsulated the effects and consequences of having an addiction to drinking. Or an addiction to anything, really, but in this case it’s alcohol. Before they mucked it up, Barney was actually intelligent, physically capable, artistic and had a lot of drive. The guy had many talents and even in one episode it says that he had majored in art/dance, proving that if it weren’t for alcohol, he would be in a better position in life. Then in one episode he got better, only for the writers to give him another addiction and have his life continue to go nowhere.
No, Barney was a joke at the beginning of the Simpsons, kind of like Norm Peterson from Cheers, and THEN they added depth to his character then after about 6 years of the Simpsons, all the writers got better jobs and left it to the B-Team, who later got better jobs and it went to the C-Team, then D-Team leaving us with whatever they have running it now.

Barney's probably the most tragic character on The Simpsons- he was a promising, potentially even brilliant young man, who unfortunately had a natural propensity for alcoholism, which he never discovered up until he was in college when Homer pressured him into trying beer. Since then he's almost constantly been the butt of the show's, and the world's, jokes. Basically Homer, his supposed "best friend", completely ruined his life, and we're usually just expected to laugh at it.
@Jan Michael Vincent Entirely wrong. It was completely Homer's fault. Barney didn't WANT to even try beer until Homer peer pressured him into doing it. That's literally _the entire point of the scene:_ that Homer is responsible for ruining his friend's life.
He drank a fruit juice that had been unknowingly mixed heavily with Marijuana plants. So a significant portion of Springfield was tricked into being high and he fought back with bring drunk.
5:53 The simpsons writers used to be really good at making joke sequences: first you've got the hilariously surreal joke of Barney running straight to the jetpack and actually flying it surprisingly well for a drunk, then you've got him getting injured hitting a place that stores pillows followed by him getting ran over by a lorry (or truck, pick whichever one you like) carrying marshmallows, and then the final icing on the cake is the fact that the wine he drunk was non alcoholic. And all of this happens in a matter of seconds.
