    So...what do Ro-Man and Gor have in common? H***Y Aliens! I had to do it. Sorry. Not sorry. Reeses. It is in truth a fun little film from the Greatest Year in the History of Years. And John Agar did a fine job playing the mad maniacal scientist. Some great over the top close ups. And wasn't that Jack Pierce the thrifty if slightly sadistic fellow, making multiple actors endure those silver lenses in Creation of the Humanoids. I liked the whole retro B&W look to this video, my friend. Hey! Guess what other film Nathan Juran directed? First Men in the Moon! Get to it, buddy. You know I won't stop buggin' you til ya do.

    • @AtomicSnackBar
      @AtomicSnackBar  9 месяцев назад +3

      Not just that, but Ro-Man and Gor also feature some mighty good looks as well. The lotharios of 50s sci-fi. Though the alien from I Married a Monster from Outer Space should probably be included in that club as well.
      And you are correct, that was indeed the very same Jack B. Lovin' Painful Contact Lenses Pierce. Can't argue with the results though.
      I actually did go to put First Men in the Moon on my list. I forget if you mentioned before, but has it not been released locally? All I see are expensive imports.

      @ AtomicSnackbar - Hm...I think you might have a 'Horny Aliens' video in the making. Do it. I just want to fry that pesky little algorithm's computer brain from Arous. Or Eros. I wonder if anyone ever did an adult film using that title? I bought my bluray of First Men in the Moon years ago, so I don't know what the availability is now. But RUclips has it : 'With Ads'. The Tube is really pizzing me off with commercials lately. So.. your call. The freakin' almighty algorithm reminds me of those local TV station editors that would insert commercials using a stopwatch. Right in the middle of a scene. Soulless greed mongers. No perception of story structure and how suspense is built. Godless heathen.

      @@tonysantiago255 I'm really trying to keep to the great DVD re-watch. But then comes along the Great Streaming Sci-fi Tempter.......Santiago the Dastardly Charming.

      @ TheCommonGardenTater1 - Hey Taterman. Good to hear from you. I think that I mentioned that I owned the original LP back in...'78. I'm old. Loved it and Richard Burton's narration. He was still a big name Movie Star and I got to see him on stage in 1982(?) in a revival of Camelot. What a voice. And as always a great actor. So, I've followed the stage version of WotWs since it's first production in...2011? I have seen the projected looming head of Sir Richard and as much of that early production as RUclips would permit. The album narration is the same because he had passed by the time the show premiered. Justin Hayward is presence and easily the definitive vocals on Forever Autumn are and always will be timeless. Simply the Best. The computer projection work, as with all of the design work, continued to in improve and drastically change as Jeff experimented with the form and framing of Wells' story. As I said before, I have unashamedly watched every unofficial audience video that RUclips has permitted to stay up multiple times. I respect Liam Neeson, but you can never replace the iconic voice of Richard Burton. Just an aside; there's a terrific short video of him in the recording session for the original album from the 70s. I used to act professionally and it's AMAZING to watch an actor of his caliber discovering the richness of Wells' prose. So inspiring. Check it out.

    I remember watching The Brain From Planet Arous when I was a kid. For me, a first time viewer, was a bit of a shock. The floating translucent brain with a pair of glowing eyes was a bit frightening. Imagine being in a dark place and seeing this in the dark.
    Another thing that caught my attention was the music of Walter Greene. The main title theme with the saxophones, brass and light percussion was descriptive of a menace coming from space and coming to our world.
    One scene was later used in the film Attack Of The 50 Foot Woman.
    Actor Kenneth Terrell, who played the officer who shoots at John Agar, was a stunt performer in Republic serials as a “flyer”(he was a circus performer according to the commentary on Attack Of The 50 Foot Woman with Yvette Vickers). He did a lot of jumping and diving. He played the role of the butler Jess.
    Jacques Marquette did the visual effects here as he did for Attack Of The 50 Foot Woman.
    The Brain From Planet Arous is a weird and wild sci-fi film about alien possession.
    The dog George was beautiful as well as loyal, loving and brave.

    • @AtomicSnackBar
      @AtomicSnackBar  9 месяцев назад +3

      As endearing as I find the shifty eyes, it really is a great effect and Gor is quite unsettling looking. I can imagine how scary he must have been as a child.
      And right again. The music was really a standout. With the new format, once I start actually filming episodes for Glow in the Dark cinema, I'm planning a second on the music of these films.
      Interesting co-inky dink there. I was just doing research on something Republic Serials related for an upcoming episode. I don't want to spoil it, but you could probably guess.
      You know, I'm not sure I've seen Attack of the 50 Foot Woman. One of many I need to add to the list.

Their eyes returned to normal when exhausted. Not sure if that happens to our brain possessed scientist but it would have to be a direct copy by Star Trek if they do.Never caught this one so I'll be keeping my eyes open ( though not in a glowy, shifty manner at all ) as I reckon I'd enjoy it.
