  • I first saw this dish being made on a channel called BeFluent. They were really knowledgeable with Russian cuisine and I got curious about it and it seemed so weird. I just had to try it. I’ll leave my reaction for the end. Окрошку #окрошку

I might have to give this a try in a small batch for just me most likely but still.
Ramen can be one of the greatest foods, so to have another whole genre of the thing sounds like I should definitely give it a try

Carbonated bread soda 😂😂😂 never ever have I thought someone would call kvas this way - even though technically that's exactly what it is. Great job chef! Was very surprised when I saw this video in my feed. You put a great effort in the dish, and it looks fantastic. Russians and Ukrainians don't care that much about the appearance of the home cooked food, from my experience (I'm both lol). Most people cut the cucumbers and carrots by half/quarter and then do slices, and the boiled eggs are usually shredded. I usually add dill instead of parsley. Also I've never cooked the okroshka with radish, neither my mom has. Definitely will give it a try now.
Was very excited to see MONASTYRSKY kvas 😃 it's a great drink on its own, and nice sober alternative to beer. However, specifically for okroshka it's better to buy something more sour. The less sweeter the kvas is, the better okroshka will be. Belarusian Lidsky Kvas is a good option (if you have it in your area).
You can try mayonnaise instead of sour cream, it's tasty too.
Such a heartwarming video. Thank you Jason.
Also, the idea to substitute the sausages with chicken is great! My mom used to cook olivye salad (another Russian dish you should try!), and sometimes substituted the sausages with chicken, to vary the recipe. It changes the flavor a bit but tastes nice, just different.

@@victorankudinov2091 that is incredible thank you so much! I would love to try this new recipe you mentioned, and will take your recommendations into account next I do it. And what’s crazy about the sour kvass comment is I kept thinking that I needed to add some lime or lemon juice into it to brighten up the flavors but changed my mind because I wasn’t sure, this was validating! Thanks for the thoughtful comment, it’s deeply appreciated! 😊

I will be doing a follow up but it’s Okroshku. After talking with Russians I made mistakes but that’s the learning process 😅. No carrots, and they use kefir instead of kbac
