  • Motown music beholds some of the greatest songs and artists of the 20th century. With that being said, and with the first Motown video being an enormous channel success, I've decided to revisit the music of Motown by making a second installment. After nearly two years since the first video, I proudly present to you "The 100 Greatest Motown Songs Part 2."
    Motown is a record company founded by Berry Gordy, Jr. in 1959 in Detroit, Michigan, United States. The name, a portmanteau of motor and town, is also a nickname for Detroit. Motown played an important role in the racial integration of popular music by achieving a crossover success. In the 1960s, Motown and its soul-based subsidiaries were the most successful proponents of what came to be known as "The Motown Sound", a style of soul music with a distinct pop influence.

      Not entirely accurate. More accurate would be to say that the music worth listening to was easy access. There's very much a whole lotta people who make music, they just don't make a whole lotta success enough to play everywhere, and it's harder to find them unfortunately.... Still, they do exist and always will

    I wonder if Berry Gordy & co realised what a truly magnificent musical monster they released on the world when they started Motown? All I can say is GOD BLESS THEM

    Just visited Motown in April 2018 and brought many wonderful memories! The building where all this magic happened is now a historic building. There is going to be a 50 million expansion done around the original building. History continues to live on. Congratulations to the Gordy Family and Foundation.

      For fathers day in June 2018 my 3 daughters gave me a Certificate good for one daddy-daughter trip to the Rock and Roll hall of fame in Cleveland,Ohio.Then they surprised me with side trips to Graceland,the house where The Christmas Story was filmed ( you'll shoot your eye out!) Then because I have been Sober in AA for 33 years,the took me to the home of one of the two founders of AA in 1935. When they were teenagers I divorced their mother due to addiction which caused her to abandon them and I raised them. It's early November and I am still wearing the wrist band from when we entered the Rock Hall of Fame in Cleveland,Ohio.

    I, love all this music and It brought me back to my youth years, which I used to spend hours and playing those 45' records of all these most wonderful and talented singers. I, love all of them, and who ever talks bad about them are just jealous and evil individuals. Those times were very hard for these stars, and despite everything they made it to the top. I know because I came to live here in 1961 from another country. It was truly hard on all of us.
    These artist were the BEST, and merit all the respect in this world.

    Wow. The memories these songs bring back. I was just a little kid for so much of this (b. 1961) but it was still a part of my life. I grew up in NE Ohio, but we could get CKLW (the Motor City ...) at night on the transistor and they played TONS of Motown. Not as big a fan of the Supremes, but the rest, including the solo acts -- awesome. Thanks for sharing.

    I've heard some of the young generation sing some of these wonderful gorgeous music, but there not giving them the chance to revive them again, because them want the music of today which it doesn't stand not even to there ankles.
    Thoses song's were and are the best. I was born in 57, but I always heard all thoses song's.
    I'm puertoriquen, but never was too in to my own music, it was always soul music. Boy did I get so much beaten because of it, that didn't stop me, got a cassette player and headphones and heard my music anyway.
    For me soul music is the best anytime. Love then still love it now, have a big collection of all them oldies. Mmm.

    Smokey was a great writer, singer and producer. He deserves a movie of his own. That also applies to Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye. Motown had a lot of talent on board.
    Side note: My grandmother did not like too much secular music but she really liked the Impressions.

    • @FriendofDorothy
      @FriendofDorothy 4 года назад +1

      That makes sense as The Impressions put out several tracks that bordered on church music. They did a re-make of "Amen" and would anyone doubt that "People Get Ready" had religious overtones. Even "It's all Right" has a spiritual vibe. Your grand-mom had good taste. (However, The Impressions were not a Motown group, they were on ABC Paramount Records.
