Thanks for an excellent Vid, worked for me, I didnt have a new pump due to silly prices, when I looked at the pump in detail it has two check valves, one spring loaded that was fine and a rubber split one on the suction filter side, the latter had stiffened up and leaked, squirted Silicon Oil down the pipe and soaked, 5 minutes, it then worked fine. As you say essential to flush with clean water before storage.
Hi Adam, thanks so much for your comment..and great to hear that you have been able to fix your vacuum with the help of our video! Well done for repairing it yourself.
I found this very helpful and was able to repair my 6151SX which was only delivering a trickle of water. The pump is basically a solenoid with a sealed electromagnet coil connected to the AC power. Inside a metal rod that vibrates to and fro in a cylinder to create a pumping action. Round this are a series of spring valves and seals. It is quite simple to dismantle the pump and clean it, but you need to be very careful as there are lots of small parts that need to be kept in the correct order. My pump had some shampoo gunge but I found the valves were all clogged with hairy fluff that prevented them from operating. I was able to strip and clean everything and reassemble it. The pump now has more flow than I can remember for years and the carpet cleaning is much improved. You also need to dismantle and clean the valve on the front of the machine where the pipe plugs in. This is just a spring, plunger and a couple of O rings. Incidentally, Josh when you reassembled the Vax "in the reverse order" in the video you reversed the blue and black wires to the pump. Not a problem in this application, but is is always a good idea to reconnect wires where they came off. Sorry if I have lost you some replacement pump sales!
Great tip! The only minor concern we would have is leaving the screen wash in there for a prolonged period in a hot environment as it could evaporate and leave deposits behind. Thanks!
Thanks Josh, great video. I have the 6130 model and it also has 4 connections to the motor, but it was fairly easy to repair without removing them. There are various catches and slots for the wires to go in when the switch unit goes back on that save the wires getting trapped. They aren't that obvious when it comes apart and the wires pull out of them, so worth looking for when putting back together. I found getting the housing apart was a little tricky as it had got stuck to the rubber seal and so needed some gentle persuasion with a flathead screw driver. Thanks, job done Vax working!
Very useful thank you. The only difference with mine is that it doesn't have a grommet and has 4 wires into the motor but still managed to do it with the help of your video. A very happy Grandmother. :-)
It's annoying that VAX does not tell you to flush the system after use to save the pump! Another tip I have found is when flushing use some screen wash for cars this seems to stop the crystal build up and if you are storing the cleaner in say a garage avoids damage to the pump by frost if the temperature falls below freezing, - Nigel at Gregory AV
why do the pumps not last very long mine has lasted 6 months i clean it all the time with fresh water after clean filters tubes pipes hose everything let it dry then set it up for dry vacuuming and i test it for 5 seconds once a month?
I need your help I've not had my vax multivax long and already the water has stoped coming out I e tried everything I've seen on the video and I would take it back but lost the prove of purchase can you help
Hi Laura, we are sorry but can only supply spares for Vax. If you can identify where and when you purchased it the retailer should be able to help if it is under warranty.
so I've put the new pump in, now have loads of bits around and can't get the wretched thing back together again. The video is too fast! Even when you pause it you can't make out what the chap is doing.

Hi,
We only have a Dirty Water Bucket listed on our website: Our part number ES508205.
Thanks.
Maybe but it hasn't happened in my case. Thanks Nigel
will doing this void any warranties?
Hi Jordan, if your unit is under warranty then return it for a 'free repair'.
so I've put the new pump in, now have loads of bits around and can't get the wretched thing back together again. The video is too fast! Even when you pause it you can't make out what the chap is doing.
Hi Richard, make sure the top is not fouled by the cables before trying to reassemble and the motor is 'settled flat ' on the motor casing.
