- Final Part 3 of a Complex Neck Reset repair on a Gibson ES 335 TD Vintage Guitar made in 1979 my Luthier Workshop. This was a real repair Marathon and after a couple of days of intense work I finally managed to finish this very time consuming Repair.
This amazing Guitar has unbelievable background Story.....
The owner who got this beautiful Instrument from his mother in law and she found it on a Pile of bulky waste with the neck broke out of the body.
The owner decided to bring it to a local Luthier to make this vintage beauty playable again. Unfortunately the repair from my Luthier college didn't last too long and the String Action become to high..... So this Instrument ended on my Workbench.
After the inspection I have noticed that there are a lot of unusual details. There are a lot of scratches and lacquer damages all over the Instrument.
I will separat the neck from the Body and because it turns out to a repair marathon I decided toi make a Video Series about this complicated Guitar Repair.
In this first Part you can follow the process of how to separate the neck from the Body and how to make some Maple Wood Inlays to reproduce the original long Neck tenon on this Guitar.
I will also explain and show a couple of "Luthier Hacks and Tools" in this Video. So if you are interested in my Luthier Craftsmanship stay tuned and enjoy the Video. I love doing stuff like that - if you are interested in more of my Luthier life Projects, please feel free to check out my other extended Workshop Videos on this channel.
Enjoy watching and sharing.
Best Regards Nik

Don't you measure the neck angle with the the outer E strings BEFORE you glue the neck in?
@@EbonyPope Yes I did... Best Regards Nik
I think the amount of voice-overs you use is perfect. You don't power-talk the entire video, but it's not complete silence. Perfect.
Thanks a lot for your feedback. This really help me out 💁🏻♂️Best Regards Nik
@@petrekguitars More voice overs. Please explain what you are doing and the materials you use. We want to learn.
Love the voice over comments. To me it's like listening to another favorite artist...Werner Herzog.
Oh thank you so much for saying that. I take it as a compliment 🕺🏻👍Best Regards Nik
that's right! I was thinking just the same
As others have mentioned, your voice over work is done where it is needed. Therefore, it is enough to explain a technique or situation without the need to be over the top. There are others that talk incessantly and it detracts from the whole presentation. You have actually nailed it from word go. This is why you are a fine craftsman!!
Thank you so much for sharing your opinion and for watching my content. You are welcome. Best Regards Nik
Your videos are perfect, please do not change.
Such a pleasure to watch superb craftsmen.
Thank you so much for saying that. Best Regards Nik
Excellent work Nik. The dowel in the neck tenon was a great idea. Added strength is never a bad thing. Thanks for the dry run setup. Your videos are very informative. You have a great channel and you're an awesome craftsman.
Thank you so much for your amazing comment John. This is really motivating for me. Thanks for your interest in my Luthier craftsmanship. Best Regards Nik
I’m watching this here in NZ, Saturday morning 7:07am, great way to start the weekend!
Thankyou Nik for sharing your workshop with us all!😊
Thanks a lot for your positive comment Mate. You are welcome. I have traveled NZ in 2014 this is such a amazing part of the world. Best Regards Nik
I really enjoy your videos. The voice-overs are just right, good explanations of what and why you are doing makes it very easy to understand your thoughts and process. Just watching you work is very interesting, you are a highly skilled craftsmen and it’s a pleasure and a privilege to see you carefully bring a guitar back to life.
Thank you so much for your kind words and for your feedback 🙏You made my day. Best Regards Nik
I like more explanation - it helps put things in context. Great videos!
Thanks a lot for sharing your preference and thanks for your kind comment 👍Best Regards Nik
Nik, I think the present amount of voice-overs is perfect. Your way helps us to understand what you're doing, and why. Keep up the good work
Thank you so much for your positive feedback and for your comment on the Voiceovers 👍You are welcome. Best Regards Nik
@@petrekguitars You are most welcome, Nik
I'm one of the 20% Nik ! Loving this episode as I'm picking up a D'Angelico Excel DC tomorrow morning here in London, so it's a DC semi-acoustic weekend for me !! The pacing, voiceover and detail in your videos are excellent. Thanks. Pete. 😀
Hey Pete, you are welcome. Thanks for your support and for watching my content. Enjoy your new Guitar. Best Regards to U.K Cheers Nik
I’m huge fan of your detailed voice-overs. More times than not I learn from your explanations and insights.
This was a great project to watch!
🎸🧰 😎👊
Thank you so much for your positive comment. You are welcome. Best Regards Nik
Wow Nick, what a journey. To say enjoyed this series is an understatement. Your work is incredible. I am not in the ballpark to do this type of work so I’m happy with the amount of voice overs. Just sitting back, relaxing after work and watching the process is great.
Thanks for the amazing content.

Thank you so much for your amazing comment. This is really motivating for me. You are welcome. Best Regards to Canada Cheers Nik
Simply amazing work. So many complex actions and changes and how you get the alignment and neck angle so spot on can only come with years of experience I guess. Final result is fabulous.
As for the voice over question, there is something very relaxing about watching you work with limited talking but I do often find myself guessing why you are doing things so its nice to hear the explanations, particularly when you describe what you are about to do, then we watch it unfold in relative silence. Personally I thought todays' episode was a nice balance. Looking forward to the next challenge.
Hey Paul, Thanks a lot for your kind comment and for your opinion about my question. This is very helpful. You are welcome. Best Regards Nik
I love hearing the thought process.
Thanks for your Feedback. Cheers Nik
It’s great to get to watch a craftsman at work 👍🏼
Thank you so much for saying that. You are welcome. Best Regards Nik 🕺🏻👍
Awesome vid as always! As for your voice over question - I love them - it’s like getting to listen to what you were thinking while going through the process, explains action steps & offers helpful tips along the way. What’s not to like? :) Thanks again for sharing what you do.
Thank you so much for saying that. And for your motivation to make more voiceovers 👍Best Regards Nik
Beautifully done Nik! I'm sure you took it for a test drive, and it played beautifully. I could see that even if I was building a guitar of this style, from a kit, there is still a lot more to gluing a neck than I imagined. This is fascinating! Thank you for sharing this Nik. With every new video, I still find myself impressed with your skill as a craftsman.
I also hope the owner of that guitar finds your work as impressive as I do and decides to bring that guitar back to you for a full restoration. I'll bet you'd make it look better than it did from the factory.
As for your voice-overs, I thought you were doing just fine when you'd speak up to clarify some important point in your process. I do understand however that there may be people watching that are new to this kind of work and may be considering getting into this field. In that case, additional comments may help the light bulb go on a little faster.
Either way Nik, I believe you are an extremely generous soul for sharing your skills with the world. Thank you for that.
Hey Harley, thank you so much for your comment and for your respect for my Luthier Craftsmanship. And also for reacting on my question about the voiceovers. You are welcome. Best Regards Nik
Hearing your thought on why you add a dowel and then why you slot it, yeah the voice over really adds to the video. A cool sounding voice too.
Thanks a lot for saying that Lester. Best Regards Nik
That guitar is an excellent candidate for a refin. Outstanding work!
Thanks for sharing your opinion and for watching my content. Best Regards Nik
Really appreciate the voice overs, very informative. Also, outstanding work on this. Love your channel, keep it up!
Thank you so much for your kind words, you are welcome. Best Regards Nik 💫🕺🏻
BG Nik
Anxiously waiting
No worries it’s gone be fine💫🕺🏻See you on Friday in the Live Chat. Best Regards Nik
Absolutely amazing work!

The anticipation Nik 🤗!
Thanks a lot for your feedback… it’s gone be great 💫🕺🏻Best Regards Nik
Great work
Thank you 👍
Excited about this
Thanks for your interest. See you on Friday ... Best Regards Nik
Hi Nik, in my opinion and i agree with Rick Beato, at least the minimum to a channel/quality like yours is to suscribe ! Another fantastic work for this Gibson ! About me, after all the job done by you, this guitar is not finish without a refin, this instrument deserved that an the more difficult is already done by you ! yes i can understand the taste of the owner, and, we must talk about the money, may be he can't give more money, and i have nothing to say about that, everyone do like he can .
Peace 👊. Alain, Marseille, South of France
Hey thank you so much for you kind words and for your motivating comment. Maybe he will decide to make a refin someday… if this happens I will let you know 👍Xou are welcome. Best Regards to France Nik
I prefer more voice over about techniques, tools and opinions on designs, choices of approaches... Thanks for sharing your knowledge, I appreciate your great content!
Thanks a lot for your feedback. And for sharing your opinion 👍 Best Regards Nik
nice job!
Thanks a lot Justin 🙏🕺🏻Best Regards Nik
Happy new year Nik

Very very impressive. Count me a new subscriber. Thank you.
Thanks a lot. You are welcome. Best Regards Nik
I agree, it feels like the dowel would be useful here :)
Thanks for your feedback 💫🕺🏻
@9:34 does applying the clamp directly over the frets affect the fret job in any way?
I don't think so because I have to level the frets anyway. But I also use always a piece of wood or leather to protect the Frets. Best Regards Nik
Perfect!!
Thanks a lot 🙏👍Cheers Nik
maybe there can be 2 videos, one with voice-over and one without, for some days watching/listening only the sound of the tools is very soothing but also knowing more about the process is exciting.. hard to choose man, why not both?
Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts. Never thought about making two version.. Thanks for your inspiration 👍Best Regards Nik
More voice overs. Please explain what you are doing and the materials you use. We want to learn.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Best Regards Nik
Don't you measure the neck angle with the the outer E strings BEFORE you glue the neck in?
Yes I did 👍👍
Nice job. But prefer the original gold knobs.
Thanks a lot for your positive Feedback. The black one´s were the original...I also think that the gold ones look better:-) Best Regards Nik
This is what I had said to you in my comments❤❤
Oh Thank you so much. You are welcome. Best Regards Nik
Maybe you can upload no voice and voice video all together so we can choose 😁
Thanks for your feedback. That’s a good Idea. Thanks for sharing. Best Regards Nik
Jesu to Ptice kakale po Gitari?

Happy New Year Nik. Another great video. Come on guys subscribe to this channel if you haven't already and see some beautiful instruments and real quality workmanship being applied to fixing them.
Thank you so much for saying that and for promoting my Craftsmanship. All the best for you in 2025. Best Regards Nik
Das war einen shoenen arbeit! Viele gruesse aus Brasilien
Vielen herzlichen Dank. BG Nik
LOVE your work. HATE this articficial voice !
Thanks a lot. Sorry for that but you can switch to original audio in your RUclips so you can listen to my English explanation 👍Best Regards Nik
ES-347 not 335
It's really a ES 335 TD it's stamped in the Body... Best Regards Nik
Do you know what was spilled all over the guitar that dissolved the finish? Looked like bleach or something??
Oh that's a good question... I have no idea but it looks like a chemical reaction...Maybe some out there as an Idea about this lacquer issue. Best Regards Nik
Nik, bitte keine weitere künstliche Sprache! 😅
Das kannst Du deaktivieren. Das Original ist in English. Sag Bescheid ob das klappt 👍BG Nik
Don‘t like the german (KI) voiceover….
Ja, die originale Stimme in Englisch war auch für mich als Deutschen viel angenehmer und authentischer.
Sorry for that you can change to the original English Version in your RUclips Settings. Best Regards Nik
@@petrekguitars Ah, thank you! Now I can listen to you in person again - that's nice!
Sorry, I don't like the voice comments, I had to stop watching. Muting the video doesn't reflect the peaceful atmosphere I liked before .... I respect the choice but this is not for me.
Thanks a lot for your feedback. You are welcome. Best Regards Nik
@@petrekguitars Actually the problem is not voice comments but IA translation. Your voice commenting what you do is a complete different story.
Love your videos and I prefer the extra voiceover
Thank you so much for your feedback and for sharing your opinion 👍You are welcome. Best Regards Nik
