I've learned these 3 rules of ED Endings in my first English book. I never forget it. It's also important to know that adjectives ending in ED don't follow these rules of the regular verbs. Words like NAKED and BLESSED (adj) are pronounced NAYKID and BLESSID not NAYKT and BLEST. It's very tricky haha. Great video as usual!👏👏
thank u mate. I am from Nepal and right now I am studying at sydney. You are doing a great job. Hope I will excel in speaking australian english by following ur videos.
This is an amazing video. I am eternally grateful for this. The best one so far. By the way, I have one question. Although we should pronounce the "ED" ending as "ID" when the last sound is "t" or "d" I keep hearing the ending being pronounced as "ED" instead of "ID". Are my ears deceiving me? Thank you in advance! Have a lovely day
I loved your explanation. I did well the quiz. I am in contact with English for more than twenty years and I've never had an easy explanation about it. Is there any grammar or spelling mistake in my comment? I'm from Brazil. Hugs
@@AussieEnglishPodcast be honest I even didn't think about it 😬 After your video I realized this issue Now I will pay more attention on those endings! Thanks ☺️ I have problem with using and understanding word "though" cannot find out what exactly the way to apply it into sentences 🤔🤔
Awesome! I never knew this. Some time ago I started overcorrecting myself and used the /d/ sound for every past participle. However, that sounded unnatural to me sometimes. Thank you for explaining this! :) One question though: Sometimes I hear an /ɪ/ sound in -ed, for example in "needed", instead of using a schwa. Is this only possible for certain words or is this more related to certain accents?
In some accents, they say /ιd/. I know someone from Scotland who always says/ιd/ in words like "wanted" or "needed." It's always a schwa in an Australian accent.
Can you please also write Down the rules by words too instead of only saying the rules? This lesson is good Pete ,suggest you do more videos like this.
@@AussieEnglishPodcast I was in three cities. Sydney, Brisbane and Gold Cost. For now it's Sydney, Manly 😁 But it's doesen't mean that thosee cities are bad. First place is always the best😎. There were first emotions!
Me hearing when you voice a consonant or vowel, your throat vibrates vs. doesn't vibrate when its not voiced : "Yeah, yeah. Duh." Me actually doing it: *mind blown*
And I watched your other video. It said Aussie don't pronounce t when it ends with -nt and I thought 'wanted' would sound like 'waneed.' But u spoke differently.. confusing :(
