He didn’t really replace the LCD. He basically just unscrewed it and screwed it back. This model has a serialised LCD that’s paired to the Logicboard that requires Apple to calibrate it after replacement, or the deselecting of two chips from the tcon board to be transferred to the new LCD for the replacement screen to work.
"that requires Apple to calibrate it after replacement" - but there is no way to do it unless you bought the official replacement screen.
Can you run it without a screen? I’m buying one with a smashed screen and was planning on just removing the screen (not replacing it). If that’s going to cause issues I’ll just leave it in clamshell.
@@richarddcrossley you should be able too.
@@applepartsTV yeah I gambled on it. You can now actually get the official screen with sending in the old one for £560 directly from Apple in the U.K. but for now I’ve removed it. The only issue is that is basically drives two displays in mirror mode (internal and external) without the lid. It’s actually fine though as it’s powerful enough that I’m doing that on a 4K ultrafine no issues even running intensive applications. Worth it for the £400 I paid for the M1 Pro with smashed screen. I’ll use this guide again when I can afford the screen.
yes you can, I am doing that now@@richarddcrossley Its closed up and connected to external monitor, mouse and keyboard.
It's not possible to chage the screen without transferring IC chips from the old screen or do a screen calibration with apple IRP tools.
Weird how that's obviously left out and a huge issue.
Is it possible to only replace the hinges of the topcase?
On my a2442 now i have some rectangular shadows...
Fantastic video and very well explained on how to do this in easy step by step to replace the screen. :) :) , Thank you.
You are welcome. Glad the video helped.
You will never guess what happened after the screen replacement from another Mac. I have screen distortion in the upper part of the screen. Everything works fine, no problems, just the shady spots. Just exactly as the other person wrote here before warning the people. But you erased his comment, and I suspect you will erase mine. BEWARE, this solution is incomplete. If you buy a brand new official screen replacement and do it in the authorized service (or even by yourself) it is one thing, and if you replace your broken one with the screen from another MacBook you will have this issue.
Yeah my comments keep disappearing too while I bring up this issue.
@@xartic1608 if the author did not mention the possibility of replacing the screen with screens bought on eBay/amazon, this video could be valid. Otherwise - not
@@aleksandrsasha6154 It could be valid but bringing up needing Apple to remote in to calibrate the display and lid angle sensor would also be present too. Omitting both of these scenarios makes me believe the author actually hasn't replaced one.
@@xartic1608 apple or authorised services do not calibrate second hand screens. They do only with the officially bought replacement screens.
Just update to Macos 15.2 and problem solved
Can the M1 pro screen work for the m1 max. Same year
Great video. Thank you. To all: I do need a replacement LCD screen for my 2021 M1 Macbook Pro 14". Does anyone have any suggestions for finding a replacement screen, please? Really appreciate it.
Go through Apple only. That way you can have them remotely calibrate your screen so you don't have these artifacts on the very top.
For anyone wanting to do this the only way to get it back in oem condition is either doing it through apple, getting a replacement screen and swapping the 2 ic chips from the original screen to the replacement this is a pretty difficult and risky thing to do but there is a third option that doesnt need any of that. There are a couple sellers on aliexpress with no ic swap needed in their description/page they require photos of some qr codes from the screen and motherboard and will use that information to preprogram the screen ic. the screen i ordered there cost me 330€
Hi! Thanks for sharing this information, it’s really helpful. Could you please share the link to the AliExpress seller where you ordered the screen? This sounds like the perfect solution for my situation, and I’d greatly appreciate your help!
hey can you upload the link ?
@@yairdvir1314 tried to but i guess it got deleted i got mine from the seller under the name of laptop service center store
I would like to ask whether or not to replace the encryption chip? why do some people say there are encryption chips?
can I just tighten up screen hinge screws without disconnecting the battery? The hinge is loose for some reason and I want to tighten the hinge screws.
Outstanding video, bro. I love the commentary as well.
very good work thank you for sharing but there is a problem when you change the screen of the mbp 14 there are horizontal spots at the top of the screen apple say that you need calibration after changing the display
Any third party solution?
I did not come across this issue. What do you mean apple says need calibration ? Since when LCD Screen need calibration ?
@@UbergeeksBiz I am having this issue. The assembly I took from another macbook pro 14 can not be used on my another macbook with broken screen. There are some kind of shadows at the top of the screen once it is installed.
Apple has linked/ serialised the display to its logic board. We are also trying to find a walkaround for this else MacBook repairs are gonna come to a screeching halt.
@@dersigannaicker9023 Please keep us updated on the walkaround. Thanks.
Does the laptop allow for this screen replacement, meaning does it have a chip inside so when you replace the screen it will say “screen not authentic” and it won’t allow it to work or screen replacement on 2021 14 inch MacBook Pro work fine?
It will work but for me I have weird black/gray issues while dimming and the top of the screen has these large rectangular marks. Needs a calibration from Apple which may only be able to be done if you purchase a screen from them.
Thank you sir ….. Following your exact instructions I was able to replace my 2021 M1 16 inch MacBook Pro’s LCD screen myself. Took a while for the proper screwdrivers to arrive but once they came I was off. The whole process took me about 2 and a half hours because the screws were VERY VERY small and I didn’t have any magnifying aids…. I’m now up and running again with my new 2022 M1 16 inch MacBook Pro… Bye the way - the screen cost me £700 on eBay….
And i'm sure you have the artifacts/ghosting issue. Also no true tone.
Incredible step by step video my guy a million thanks!
I'd like to ask about the battery replacement cost?
Thank you very much, with this guide, i was able to replace my Macbook 2021 14" screen without any glitches.
You are welcome. Glad the video helped.
So there is no need to have apple calibrate it, etc??
@@MiamiWebDesign No need to calibrate.
Where did you purchase the screen?
Do you need any special calibration or what not...or is this just plug and play? want to order one..so not sure if i will need any extra steps after installing the screen
do not order the screen. this video shows only assembly process. advanced soldering needed to perform this replacement.
@@inwerp Really? All the videos ive seen there was no soldering involved... Even looked at the repair manual from apple os their self repair store... Which part needs soldering?
@@johnaart mcu(sandwich cpu+ram in top of it) and small spi flash on tcon like board hidden behind the led panel. If you search a bit, there are few videos on yt.
@@johnaart because the chinese dont care if it works or not mate, they just want ur USD
My girlfriend upset about the screen being completely new especially because stickers gone and she said it feels like a whole new laptop. Did they have to replace whole top half or could they have just replaced the glass screen?
Replaced an A2458 screen using the steps from this video. Seeing a bunch of comments about calibration which had me worried, but I was able to replace my screen with a used one I found from eBay with no issues. No calibration done on my end, everything looks and works fine.
You are welcome. Glad the video helped.
have you ordered a generic display or oem part? can you share the ebay link please? so you don't see any glitch on top of the screen? closing the lid sensor works fine?
A2458 is a charger, not a macbook
Great video! I'm curious about the difficulty level of replacing the screen on a MacBook Pro. Is it something that someone with basic repair skills could do, or is it more complex and requires specialized knowledge?
I operate a cell phone repair store and can do a MacBook in less than an hour. This one is about average difficulty of a typical MacBook.
Excellent video as always with many tidbits of wisdom. Many thanks!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks alot
Any chance you can update the Amazon link?
Can you run these screenless like other MacBooks? I’ve seen one with a smashed screen I am thinking of buying to use with my LG ultrafine 4K.
If the screen is cracked, no need to run as screenless. Just hook up an external monitor and run is a duplicate screen.
@@UbergeeksBiz yeah I know that but I want to use it screenless. Seems pretty common thing nowadays. Just wanted to know if it works fine with the screen removed. If not I’ll do what you said. Thank you for the reply.
Great video mate !
But FANTASTICly done job in this video. thank you!
Great video. Thank you. I replaced the screen myself successfully.
I broke Battery Daughter Cable - I peeled it off instead of sliding it out. :(
But all works well when plugged in.
No screen issues? Ghosting issues on the top of the screen?
How much did it cost you?
@@weiningkang9949 Unless you bought it from Apple and had them calibrate it, you will have an issue. HUGE issue that's not covered one bit in this video.
Superb mate, thanks.
Has anyone found a way to calibrate the display without Apple?
Would be nice to share that before doing all of this, disable the lid auto boot 😅
sudo nvram AutoBoot=%00
What does that help with?
Wait but the link is to the whole screen +laptop top case for $949 but the screen replacement at the Apple Store is only $749.
Thank you so much
Thank you
Great video!! Thank you!!
You are welcome. Glad the video helped.
Brilliant, fantastic video, thank you so much. this is not and easy process so your step by step instructions are very appreciated!
00:23 no, it is a 14" not a 15"
Why u said 15 inch but the screen is 14 inch
What was even the problem or was even wrong with your screen I’m told this model has flaw with a screen.
That Apple admitted by Apple to Forbes. (If anyone know about places Apple have admitted about the screen fault of the MacBook Pro 14 2021
I really need to have this calibration issue addressed, if true, there's no point in doing this outside of Apple channels. Please!
It’s not LCD screen. It’s mini LED screen 😂
It's an LCD screen backlit by mini LEDs.

It appears that Apple has substantially restricted replacements, Amazon no longer has a seller who carries and a sample of google search shows prices nearly at Apple's charge
How about the 2 small chip? Is that any lcd part after market included the 2 small chip?
What are the two small chips ?
