Fripp, Beck, Gilmour, Manzanera - the BLUES brother tone gods! Of course, there are many more, but as for blues-influenced rock guitarists who play with amazing feeling and extraordinary tone, these are guys who have set the bar exceptionally high!
I've met lots of famous people. But if I met Phil Manzanera I would probably make a fool of myself. He's been such a beautiful inspiration to me and I can hear his unmistakable guitar tone and be instantly transformed into a place where I want to go. One of my very favorites who is equally comfortable with classic rock as well as progressive sounding stuff. He's able to fuse genres together and have them sounding original and sensible.
A great guitar player must be able to evoke a feeling or emotions, there's no teaching it to a player. Either you can or you can't. Phil Manzanera definitely can!
I don't even particularily like his solo stuff but as a guitarist I recognize his style and technique which makes him one of my favorite guitarists. There's a lot of those of course and I can't place them in a numbered order. It's about originality, tone, style, technique, diversity etc. and in diffrent genres. I adore Phil's stuff with Roxy Music.
Roxy Music seems like one of thos bands where more people are officially involved though. More can join in. But a magical early line up, if we're being romantic.
I love when I think I'm the only one whose ever heard of a song - and I find awesome live posts of these songs. Everyone seems to know it from "801" - but his guitarissimo album is just amazing...
I was 10 years old when 801 came out. I didn't know if any other 10 year old listening to 801, Roxy, Fripp. Etc. Thank God for my older brother that I should aquire the taste of the finest music ever made.
Underrated Giant. Sonic Master. From Quiet Sun to Roxy Music to 801 to his work with ENO. David Gilmour brought him on says something. Always loved him with John Cale on Fear on THE GUN. Always liked him.
One of the most creative avantgarde guitarists to ever live....unostentacious and severely overlooked he will always be a TOP 5 guitarist and artist to me. Robert Fripp, Steve Howe, Mick Ronson, and Randy Gardiner would be on that list as well.
Phil Manzanera, me ha encantado conocerte un poco en el documental sobre HdS. Ahora vengo a conocerte mejor como músico, pero ya te admiro. Gracias por estar ahí para la música hispana.
@@joe22589 I couldn't agree more. Ron, 801 Live was a groundbreaking recording, featuring some of the best musicians out there, along with the electronic wizardry of Brian Eno, who also performed. It's great to see Phil here, still displaying prodigious skill on his signature composition, but 801 Live is an absolute masterpiece and levels above this...
Sounds better without the horns and with another electric guitar playing their riff. That was what gave the song muscle when it wasn't in the spacey sections.
Sorry Phil as much as I like your composition s you are not what I call a live player, very poor live with 801 or RM. Seen you with 801 at the Odeon New Street Birmingham in the seventies just after seeing Van Halen, ok different player but not a leader of a band like Gary Moore or Rory Gallagher. But I bought all your records.
See why you put Bills bass guitar on the front of 801 live to deflect your poor performance sorry Phil but you surrounded yourself with good musicians and got away with it
That beautiful sustain...Diamond Head and 801 live have been with me since I was a kid in the 70s...Thanks for this post!
Truly one of great and underrated guitarists.

Possibly the most unrecognized and talented guitarist on the planet. His giftedness is seemingly bottomless. An underappreciated giant.
A giant without a bottom - now there's an image.
Well said agreed wY b4 his time on this album cool parts he &(Eno) played taps guitar parts backwards. Fucken great
Easily the most underrated guitarist of his generation
Well I would know Phil anywhere but most wouldn't. Genius.
aint it good when you hear a guitarist that can put heart and soul into his music.GENIUS!
A great guitar player must be able to evoke a feeling or emotions, there's no teaching it to a player. Either you can or you can't. Phil Manzanera definitely can!
among my favorite ax-men..Phil rarely gets the credit he's due
Didn't do bad for himself though.

Phil Manzanera great musician, great song.
The 801 live is one of the best LP'S ever !!!!
So hauntingly beautiful!
Phil has always been in my top 10 favourite guitarist`s list, love the sound he gets from his Firebird. 😎🎸
This is epic and beautiful. Thank you whomever captured this and uploaded.
Still so good !
I really love this number. Big memory of my college life.
Another one of my favorite guitarists!!!

Great song.
Thanks so much for posting this. I've loved this track and the album for years and never seen it done live. Ace!!
Same here. Have loved it for decades, but never saw it played live.
ロキシー時代から彼の音楽が好きです。
これからも期待してます。
Excellent - great to see the master at work.
Underrated Giant.
Sonic Master.
From Quiet Sun to Roxy Music to 801 to his work with ENO.
David Gilmour brought him on says something.
Always loved him with John Cale on Fear on THE GUN.
Always liked him.
801 live is one of my best live album. from Korea. im big fan of Yours.
Absolute total sheer perfection - brilliant post!!
I hear lots of Fripp in his playing here! Lovely!
PHIL MANZANERA IS A BIG UNDERRATED ARTIST.
The intensity is not only on his face but within his entire body. He shows there is so much more to playing the guitar than striking the strings.
The only thing that would have made this video better would be if Phil had worn his fly-eye glasses...
uh, no!
YES!

Amazing!!
Thanks for signing my 801 box set. Great inspiring music.

Great tune.
ha - I *knew* that photo of him in the For Your Pleasure gatefold was wrong !
This sound of Don Manzanera will follow me into eternity. It is as important as Sir Jimi Hendrix and Maestro Carlos Santana ??
I can't agree more!
I want this as the processional for my wedding.
love

名曲だわ、感動。
agreed!
great, thumbs up!
Fat tone. Love it!
オランダでも伝説なんですね 日本では若いやつらはロキシー知らんけど私にとっては欧州人に負けない程好きです
801 !
Hank Marvin through the looking glass.
like his live-Act 1976 in Stokholm/Sweden
I am spellbound.
incrível
Wow...........
El Manzo!!!!!
You see where maybe Buckethead got his inspirations!
SPUD-sonic! A real POE-tay-toe who has truly found his real live TOMATO, Euterpe.
man does he look different without the beard.
OMG THis is amazing better than 801 Live...well maybe
Clean your ears! The drums are not even 10% as good as on the 801.

If only the camera angle was more to the left.
Brilliant Jools didn't open his gob once, pity about the bloody piano though
The tempo seems a tad slower than the original
Guitarra marcante do Roxy músic
Throw away those cymbals
Prenant
Brian jones
Come on, the original LP version is not to be beaten..have heard countless other attempts., all good but ..
the best musician ever, filmed by the worst cameraman ever!
Great guitar but why do the drums sound so dreadful?
Brian Andrews it's not a broadcast, just the sound taken directly from the studio with a cam IMO
He was always too good for the pop band that Roxy turned out to be! Eno realised it first and fled!
Crap! Roxy got better with age.

@@Beanybob Have you quite finished?!
Those who cannot do, criticize those who can
There is entirely to much cymbal in todays drumming.
Needs more cowbell.
