  • NJT F40PH-2CAT 4119 returns to revenue service on the Bay Street Shuttle at Glen Ridge station.
For the first time since September 2013, NJ Transit F40PH-2CAT No. 4119 returned to operate on revenue trains, but acting as a cab car. This unit is one of three left on NJ Transit property as the other 14 were sold to other railroads throughout the country. Two of the three have since been demoted for non-revenue service, primarily work trains and yard moves, with the remaining one sitting out of service in storage. However due to the ongoing car shortage, NJ Transit has since been forced to pull out some retired locomotives as a temporary "cab car" until all the actual cab cars are fitted with PTC. On August 5, 2018, 4119 was assigned to operate on the Bay Street Shuttle operating back and forth from Hoboken Terminal to Bay Street in Montclair, NJ.
On the other end of the consist is GP40PH-2B No. 4202 providing the head-end power to the 3-car train. Enjoy :)

thecooltrainguy I seen the video. I've spended almost 6 hours trying to catch at least 4119. I caught a GP40PH-2B Repaint instead.

It's good to see NJT returning those F40s in revenue service. They are so short of equipment across the board both trains and buses you wouldn't believe.

Wait, I thought only two NJT F40s are still on property. Also, it’s great to see the F40PH back in action!

David Ng 4118, 4119, 4120 is still on the property but 4118 is the one stored out of service. 4119 and 4120 has its HEP removed and has since been demoted to work trains. But 4119 is back to operate as a “cab car” due to the shortage of cab cars.
