War Wagon Sets World Speed Record For Fuel Altereds

- It was a Fuel Altered battle for the ages. Kebin Kinsley at the wheel of Howard and Shane Farris' War Wagon Fuel Altered took on the Richard Hartman and Tim Wilkerson-run Summit car at Nitro Madness at Texas Motorplex (a dual feature of Funny Car Chaos and the Outlaw Fuel Altered Association).
Hartman took the early points with the first four second run and the first 300mph pass, but Kinsley took revenge in the final run of the weekend with a 5.06/304.59mph, besting Hartman's 304.53mph run and earning the War Wagon the title of being the world's fastest Fuel Altered.
Drag racing is made of moments like these. We all remember where we were when we saw special runs. The crashes, accidents, and fires might get the headlines, but it's the read out boards where the real action happens!
Nice to see the camaraderie between the two teams. Just a bunch of hot rodders living the same dream.

Known Kebin Kinsley for 40 years and he is simply a natural born driver. From Top fuel boats , Top Fuel Dragster to this beast Fuel Altered. One hell of a good guy too.

Ennis Texas, the Texas motorplex. My childhood track. First appearance, 1987. It's 2022 and I will be back... My bucket list. I live almost 2000 miles away and haven't been since 1991, we moved because of desert storm. This is where I met garlits, muldowney, hill, Bernstein, snow, Glidden, Austin, Force, and even saw young Ashley Hood, and let's not forget, the woman you loved to hate, Lori Johns. I'll see you soon Texas.... Nice run, 5:16, it works for me.

Phoenix AA/FA held this record for a long time.. Was about the time Kebin was running the Fuel boat (I worked with Amos).. Drastic plastic hammered a new record out and now this? Small group of fantastic "late model" altereds... kind of miss the work..

How does the launch work on these? Trans break or anything? Sounds like he just hammers the throttle and goes.
At first I thought how can they run that fast without aerodynamic bodies and then I realized these are running the full quarter mile not 1000 feet like funny cars and top fuelers. NHRA will probably limit them to 1000 feet too if they are going that fast. I wonder how they can afford to do that without big corporate sponsors. Pretty impressive!

@@PFred-ew4zd Since 2008 when Scott Kalitta was killed by a hung throttle. The idea being to give the cars that much extra shut down area.
Lots of used parts on the War Wagon and reusing spark plugs keeps the cost down a bit 😂
NHRA limits to 1000 feet. IHRA allows for 1320 feet (1/4 mile). Apparently Texas Motorplex is sanctioned by the ADRL. I'm not sure of the ADRL regulations/restrictions.
@@XGeNxArts Serious nitro burners don't have used spark plugs. At about 4 seconds they become diesels.

Soo glad they are going fast again. War Wagon had a pedal-it just off the line. If only,,,. Would have gained another 3 mph+,, and a whole lotta time saved if it would have stuck better.

I would have been nice if the person operating the video camera to zoom in and show the trap speed and ET. Instead a shaky glimpse is it. The speed and ET is what this is all about.

Quicker, not faster. We only ran a 5.06 at 304.59 to his 4.920 at 304.53

@@paulrichards7979 Thank you Paul! Not sure when we’ll get the car back out on the 1/4 mile. It’s pretty expensive for a team without big sponsors behind it. We’re looking to better our 1/8th mile records whenever we have the chance to take it out again.
Its just a funny car chassis and some body work, fast yes. Not the altereds I remember,.lol
It's a modern Altered. Funny Car and Altered chassis are pretty much the same, but very different aero. It does make a difference.

Some guys leave the start line in a funny car, and cross the finish line in an altered (after the engine blows and the body gets ripped off).
