Duty, dance, bloodshed, and the wild. All four of these characters cast aside aspects of themselves that most people would consider integral to ones self, all for the sake of becoming more in tune with their one driving purpose. We can draw similarities of how Miquella did the same thing in order to truly become a god, although Miquella never abandoned his name.
12:50 An interesting lore bit from "DnD 5e Monster Manuel" is that Rakshasa can't be permanently killed on the Material Plane, the world where most adventures happen. The Rakshasa respawns in the Nine Hells and can only be permanently dealt with there. And because they're powerhungry psychopaths they'll get obsessed with revenge and return to the Material Plane as many times as it takes until that revenge is achieved. The Rakshasa is literally playing EldenRing in DnD 😂
Fromsoft Dev: “We get it Miyazaki-san, this is the Elden Ring DLC, the bosses have to be tough. But do we really need a random dude in a bear suit, cleverly named ‘Red Bear’, to have more HP and be a tougher fight than several shard bearing DEMI GOD bosses?” Miyazaki: “Yes”.
Nameless 1: Guarding a gaol in solitude. Nameless 2: A dance of passion and loss of identity. Nameless 3: Endless killing to shed their mortal identity. Nameless 4: B E A R
The story of Rakshasa reminds me a lot of Sekiro and it's 'Shura' lore, rooted in ancient Japanese mythology! Rakshasa and Shura are described so similarly (shifting forms, an insatiable bloodthirst, a 'state of being' like Buddhahood for example) that I think they might even be referencing each other. She even has a Katana, and in Elden Ring lore, "the east" always refers to Japan, or Asia in general! (ie. the Land of Reeds).
I honestly love Rakshasa, the descriptions of her set and katana, plus the theory that she was the incident in the land of reeds is so cool to me. This woman is a force of nature.
I think the bear roar incantation is referring to oneself realising there own potential and prowess, fighting and contending with the wild will bring out one’s own inner god. This is what godfrey was a warrior who fought with the wild became chief and fought more and at that point I believe that he met the requirements for certain holy rites to be performed on him. (We see this with marika and godfrey she noticed the unrivalled strength and prowess unlocking /fully realised his inner god and with that requirement fulfilled godfrey was put through a erdtree sap rite) a rite as in a rite of passage, as in oneself needs to achieve a level before being recognised.
I speak for many when I say I'd love to see some "The Elder Scrolls" lore on this channel, I'm sure you'll have a great time learning about it like I did with that of Skyrim and Oblivion, but just like Elden Ring there is much that is left unexplained by "conventional" means. I believe it is a wonderful universe and with the (not nearly enough) knowledge I have about it it has become my favourite franchise of all time. I greatly encourage you to do so.
Honestly, while I loved it as a whole, not getting to fight the dancer in the field of blue flowers was the biggest disappointment of the dlc. That part of the trailer really floored me.
I feel like the Knight of the Solitary Jail is kind of like From Soft's interpretation of Guts if he had never had experience character development. Guts was on a road toward becoming a lonely, sinister killer until he accumulated friends that grounded, uplifted, and ultimately redeemed him. The lonely knight seems to have rejected all of that growth, and therefore ended up empty, alone, and forgotten.
I get the feeling that these 4 npc's were supposed to have a bigger part in the story and you could interact with them ect. But then they just decided to cut them all and make them spirit fights. Would have been cool to get some more lore on them...
As someone who’s played almost all of the Fromsoftware games. Demon's Souls, Dark Souls & Bloodborne were the only soulsborne games that I really cared about the lore. Thanks to your videos I’ve never been more interested learning about Elden Ring’s Lore. Keep up the great work Miss Chalice ❤
Fun fact: the Sliders of the dancer of ranah are 90% similar if not the same as tanith, this confirms this Dancer could be a Sister or a relative of tanith
I think a general theme with Shadow of the Erdtree is that the cultures are heavily inspired by ones found through history in what is now the middle east, india etc. No doubt it's also a play on the timeline of the game being a loose mirror of our own development. Though as usual there is a little bit of scattered inspiration as well, but I think that's just the mix that Fromsoft likes.
8:08 Yeah, My friend and i also got dissapointed we don't face her in Cerulean Coast, this would make the fight more beautiful. My friend at least went straight to find her to get her Gipsy Dress.
Nice to know I wasn't just imagining it when I first saw the black knight and thought he looked a LOT like Guts. Swords a bit too small to be the Dragonslayer though.
Also for Radahn- chances are the reference is to wolf cubs. As Radagon it's refered to as a red haired champion, leal hound (burn), and also there are the Red wolves of Radagon. Cubs can also refer to lion cubs as well so I think it was a reference to Radagon and then Godfrey. Which makes since considering Radahn's character
8:30 I definitely agree it's a shame we just fight the Dancer (and all the mausoleum bosses tbh) in those bland reused basements. It makes sense for the lore and also why the trailers showed them being fought outside cause it's a lot more visually impressive and exciting
That’s an issue I had with Elden Ring for a while. There are way too many fights in boxes. Some people probably prefer it this way but to me more isn’t better in this case. I‘d rather have a boss rush mode to repeat the fights made with care than all these „unique“ boss encounters.
Lore is lore is lore.... infact branching out into different stories, worlds, and authors can give people new perspectives to understand, hell even the real world, not just fiction.... some of my favorites from video games is elder scrolls lore, star wars, cyberpunk is really rich with stories and characters, if you want an absolute behemoth tho its gotta be battle tech/mechwarrior lore.... regardless dont be afraid to branch out, some people might complain they want elden ring and they want it now, but overall diversifying is not just good for a YT channel but like i said before helps level up one's analytical skill to put it in video game terms

Speaking of berserk references, your video on the hornsent (or possibly on the shamans) made me realise that the whole of Enir-Ilim might be a big Berserk Reference: when Griffith is being converted to the Godhand, Void has a line about "Pile[ing] the bodies higher, to reach that Castle in the sky" and with Enir-Ilim the hornsent potentially piled the bodies of the shamans higher and higher in the construction of the tower to reach the point where the divine gateway could be built, reaching the Hornsents dream of the Divine, like Griffiths dream of becoming a king in a castle. Could also be a coincidence, but i think its pretty neat
Something that maybe wasn't mentioned before - Greatsword of Solitude's Ash of War is, pretty randomly, named "Moon" Slash, even though it does not particularly fit the concept of moon we have in Elden Ring (the one tied to Carian royalty), nor looks like actual moon. If I had to guess, it's named like this as reference to Guts' child, who was "never born" and at this point in the story is apparently some kind of ghost, fey, or other noclippy creature. Said child is tightly tied to the moon, and appears to Guts and his party when moon is full - only to disappear next morning. Community seems to refer to it as "Moonlight Boy". It also would tie neatly into crest of birth, found on the sword.
my head canon is that rakshasa, blackgaol knight, and dancer are in a love triangle but red bear only fuck bears and blackgaol knight is basically anime protagonist
I suspect that there's more to this topic yet. There's those one stones the Solitude Knights like to use for example. But a pretty valuable question might be to what gaols were they a knight of. The cookbook for their Polter Stones would suggest them as gravekeepers in the Land of Shadows, and therefore likely an entity tied to Messmer's side. Should we glance at this further of the other subjects, we can rationalize there's old ties to Tanith's people, Redmanes were established with some come to the Land of Shadows which could suggest an older age Radahn existed for the war, and perhaps promises of much blood for the killing crazed from the Land of Reeds. Despite their differences, the Solitude Knights may be people related to Eochaid.
From also appears to be referencing the fairy tale and classic film The Red Shoes with the Dancer of Ranah, a story in which a young dancer receives a pair of magic (or cursed) red shoes that force her to dance endlessly until she has no choice but to cut off her own feet or die. The parallels and emphasis on the color red seem to be a clear reference. This implies that the Dancer of Ranah may have been consumed by her endless dance until death, and even continued dancing as a spirit after death. Kinda horrifying tbh.
15:58 I think this more refers to discovering the strength within you, through obsession over this specific fight with a bear, rather than any specific god
i like the fact that rakshasa as she described it reminds me of shura in sekiro (the title given to one obsessed with killing) and also the fact that she wields a literal black and white katana (like mortal blade), and also, idk if it’s relevant but the red bear made me thinks of hercules in greek mythology, with him wearing the skin of an unkillable lion
Ranah's dance moves remind mr heavily of blue dancer' talisman. So maybe that Blue Dancer, Ranah and Tanith are originated from the same land. Moreover maybe Rykard was looking for a "dance teacher" for Malenia ans found the Blind Swordsman?)
Even post nerf Blasphemous Blade is good against Blackgaol Knight. And Fire Knight's Greatsword with Flame Skewer works great against the Masoleum bosses
Lol I did not fall for the black jail Knight, Golden Boy in the first start area was why I thought he also be a trap . Love your insight on the amazing lord of the game
About the greatsword of solitude, I wonder if it's not a modified Carian great sword, like the golden order greatsword (bestowed by Rennala Carian queen to Radagon and later modified). It would make sense with the theme of renouncing one's heart, and the skill being a Moon Slash, which could be a (carian) Moon sword reference.
I wonder if the bear heart working like a dragons communion was a subtle reincorporation or reimagining of the thing scrapped from the beta where rune bears used to drop dragon hearts. Sort of good they changed it though since they explicitly call out the remaining gravel stones in the hearts of the non ancient dragons being key to the power... Though I did like the potential implications of a version of the lore where rune bears were also dragon hunters🐻
My theory about the crests on the sword is that this is to honor Miquella, who was born but would never die, instead becoming a God. Miquella's nature is to compel affection, but the world is either dying or already dead. What is the point in the existence of a God of Love when there's nobody left to love or be loved by, and you cannot even love yourself?
I love your videos. You could always try out "Blasphemous". I've always thought that's got a very souls like lore. Told through item descriptions & vague dialogue. I'm back tracking through the other dark souls games. I'm on number 3 atm. I guess you could always revisit them, if you want to stick with the theme.
I really didn’t enjoy these fights but yet again the video was very interesting. The Blackgaol Knight was my first DLC boss and unfortunately soured my experience a lot. Luckily that bad first impression didn’t last but I still think that NPC fights against dudes with seemingly infinite poise are a chore. Also I didn’t know about the Scadutree Fragments and banged my head against this guy more than was likely intended by From.
I started reading Berserk for the first time after playing the DLC. The first thing Guts does, like the knight, is shoot a bunch of dudes unreasonably fast with a crossbow. I laughed a lot when I read it.
Just to throw it out, if they all threw away something in return for power, given their spectral look, wouldn't it be akin to Miquella discarding everything and becoming a God who have a spectral look. Can this be Sainthood? Maybe non-empyreans become Spirits, but when Empyreans discard everything, they become Gods. So to become a god, you have to discard your former self, did Marika discard her former self (maybe gloam eyed queen ;P) to become god? Could Melina be actually Marika, like St Trina is to Miquella. Questions Question Questions. Hahaahah.
I'll forever be miffed that they made a dancer in a bright red dress, put her in a biome of bright blue, and then stuck her underground as a gray spirit. I want the fight in the first trailer
