"Rock Gas" is usually called "Acetylene" in English. It is made by the action of water on chunks of Calcium Carbide. A little phosgene comes out of the combustion process so it is not great in very enclosed spaces.

@@Tinatortoise No. Limelight is created by heating quicklime (Calcium Oxide) in a flame until it incandesces, The flame that heats it can be created by a range of fuels, including ordinary mains gas.
