    With the addition of Tasha’s, I like the Blind Fighting Style combined with Fog Cloud on a Mage Slayer build for the Eldritch Knight.

    Something I have fun with is getting seven levels of eldritch knight fighter, and then combining that with thirteen levels of whatever wizard subclass I feel like at the time...gets you a fairly powerful multiclass and it's great fun to roleplay

    • @TheSinisterheroes
      @TheSinisterheroes  2 года назад +1

      That’s very powerful. The wizard is a strong class but lacks a lot of defense. The extra armor and hp from those early levels will help a great deal

    High elf Eldritch knight. whip sentinel and booming blade. constantly control the frontline and denying enemy movements. sure a whip is under powered and a staff could be used with the crusher feat to push combat around.

    • @TheSinisterheroes
      @TheSinisterheroes  9 месяцев назад

      You know I gotta say the staff is under utilized. I think there’s something that can be done, especially if you can manipulate some circumstances.

    For the weapon bond keep in mind you can drop your weapon as part of a reaction to cast shield or absorb elements then snap it back at the beginning of your turn before attacking. This lets you be more flexible at level 4 with getting a point increase or choosing a different feat than war caster.
    Yeah War caster eliminates the weapon juggling, but if you're properly thinking ahead or being strategic with your spell choices it's not as critical as most people think.

    Eldritch Knights are awesome! I wish they had designed more third-casters like Eldritch Knights & Arcane Tricksters, bolstering a class with Wizard Spells.
    Fighter: Evocation & Abjuration
    Rogue: Illusion & Enchantment
    The two remaining non-Spellcaster class's are Monk & Barbarian. And the other remaining schools of magic: Transmutation, Necromancy, Divination, & Conjuration. A little homebrew but which two schools would you pair with Barbarian & Monk so that all schools of magic are represented?
    As such, their Spellcasting Ability would be INT, using the Wizard's Spell List, & being a third-caster, gaining up to 4 personal Wizard's Spells.

    • @TheSinisterheroes
      @TheSinisterheroes  8 месяцев назад

      That’s an interesting idea. I would love to see the monk with necromancy would be a lot of fun LOL

    the issue with the eldritch knight is aside from spellcasting all of their other abilities are mediocre. so pretty much it's a losing proposition after level 3-5. a level 10 eldritch knight has 4 level 1 slots and 3 level 2 slots. level of 5 of a better fighter such as a rune knight, battlemaster, etc and level 5 of any wizard, gets you more abilities, the same # of level 1 and 2 slots, 2 level 3 slots, ritual casting and arcane recovery. even at level 7 eldritch knight, a level 5 any other fighter and a level 2 wizard will have the same spell slots along with 1 arcane recovery/ritual casting. a multiclassed fighter wizard will always do better than an eldritch knight.
    weapon bond is a ribbon.
    war magic is a trap, especially with the different things we can do now with our bonus action from feats, spells, racial abilities or 2wf.
    eldritch strike is useless as the EK's cast stat is most likely low unless they multiclassed armorer/battlesmith.
    arcane charge is a good ability but is gotten very late in the game. most campaigns have ended or are ending by that point.
    new to the channel btw. binge watching the content. the innkeeper from twisted tentacle inn recommended before to check your stuff out.

      You my friend are very well educated on mechanics. When considering what your intentions are with an eldritch knight, you must not separate the fighter from the equation. The fighter growing in attacks will be your major damage out put. It’s a flexibility in your ability that an eldritch knight provides. Absorb elements helps your survivability while slightly upping your dmg. Shield makes you basically as close to impossible to hit as possible. I like setting up a wall of fire and booming blade to trap enemies in. In certain instances hitting with booming blade or green flame blade then a regular attack will do more dmg before level 11. It is not an easy class to play. It is not easy when comparing an eldritch knight to another spell caster. The best way to understand is by comparing it to another fighter. That is a better scope of where it lands as opposed to other classes. I personally just have issues with multiclassing. I don’t know why I just like the thematics of a subclass. I hope you enjoy the content we created and please keep commenting I think there’s a few people who would really benefit from your knowledge!!!

      @@TheSinisterheroes Thanks for the compliment! Yeah i pride myself with that.
      i dont really separate fighter from the equation but i always factor in multiclassing. i'm an optimizer and multiclassing is what got me into dnd and why i continue playing. final fantasy tactics was one of my favorite video games when i was younger and i thoroughly enjoyed multiclassing there and dnd was just the next step in the fun i had of creating unique classes, executing concepts not possible with straight classing and eventually creating new lore/flavor outside of the traditional themes of classes.
      i do see our disconnect though as you don't like multiclassing while multiclassing is my raison d'etre. i look at classes as stat blocks just like what you said in the video and my character building process is the complete opposite of yours:
      1. come up with a build based on a concept (like i want to be a crit-fisher, i want to play gambit, i want to be a cow herder) then look at the classes and combine abilities, spells, etc that can execute that concept in game without any regard for the traditional themes/lore of the classes. i always think i'm creating a new class and as i keep telling people: flavor is free!
      2. come up with the character and how i want to RP it with bonds, flaws, personality, goals, background, backstory, etc that isn't dependent on the classes i selected.
      3. then i fuse the 2 together into an avatar i will enjoy playing.
      shield and absorb elements are spells i can get easily by dipping wizard or sorc. i doubt i can cast wall of fire as an eldritch knight before the campaign is over. as a multiclass, there's still a chance for that. you are correct that there's ways that booming blade will do more dmg than attacking hence, i'm not as concerned with multiclassing slowing my progression to get extra attack from fighter or even going up fighter further as i may decide to focus on casting as i go higher in levels over another attack. you're also correct that eldritch knights will suffer when compared to casters. casters>martials in 5e especially as we hit tier 3+.
      it's fair to compare eldritch knight to other fighters, but even there, they are still overshadowed by battlemasters, rune knights and possibly even arcane archers. still a solid subclass though, i'd rank them in the middle. an eldritch knight at it's core is basically just a fighter with a familiar (easily gotten with a feat), shield and absorb elements. while those are good spells, it doesn't create a unique playstyle or offer "build around abilities" unlike others i've mentioned so it's more prone to being overshadowed by a multiclass.
      i like the thematics of a subclass sometimes, but i don't limit myself to it. i do enjoy the content so far as i do like flavor ideas you share as well.

  • @clarkside4493
    @clarkside4493 Год назад +3

    You have to pick your offensive spells very carefully as an Eldritch Knight. You're better off taking the ones that do something other than just damage, such as going for a _thunderwave_ or _Tasha's caustic brew_ and then Action Surge for _Rime's binding ice._
    If you ARE gunning for some "proper" damage spells, you need to know how to use them. For example, _Melf's minute meteors_ isn't something you cast in the middle of combat. Take advantage of the 10 minute duration while you're rooting around a dungeon. Especially if you do so prior to the _thunderwave/Rime's binding ice_ combo. You'll feel as if you've just cast three spells all at once.

    • @TheSinisterheroes
      @TheSinisterheroes  Год назад +2

      Those are some really great suggestions. Those spells work well especially considering that they all revolve around being in a situation where you can hit multiple targets. Balancing the single target specialization of the base fighter

    • @clarkside4493
      @clarkside4493 Год назад +3

      @@TheSinisterheroes depending on your party composition, it could also pay to keep your Intelligence up. If there's a wizard, you might could help him make some _spell scrolls of Tenser's transformation_ for you.
      Because of its longer duration, you could cast it during exploration so you can get help from _enhance ability, guidance,_ and probably something else I'm forgetting. Those sweet, sweet 2d12s on a fighter is just beautiful.

    Helpful points.
    1) Poor man’s Caster. The Eldritch Knight is a quarter caster. That means your Wizard gets a spell level open up every 2 levels. You get there in 8. As a result you will never have the number of spells and ability that a full caster has. And you should rarely care. Because for you magic helps you be a better fighter. Always remember that rule.
    2) Big Bang spells - itty bitty levels.
    The spells you choose should be to assist you and more rarely (if ever) directed at the other guy. Cantrip give you the flex you will love because if you booming then they are staying there. But there are other useful spells that you MAY consider. Find Familar is an automatic. At level three this with the Owl can mean a fairly reliable advantage on your first and only attack. Shield, lighting lore (better with int but it can bring casters closer to you) later Shadow Blade.
    3)Syntonizationwith your fighter soul-
    * Weapon bond is best with a melee and thrown weapon like a javelin or magic dagger.
    * Ritual Combat - fighters have more feats then any other class so get Ritual Caster adept and you get to add a lot is magic for a few gold. So you always have a horse to be a mounted combatant. And then you can retrain your Find Familar and get that Solver Barbs so that if they need 18-20 to hit and they roll that 20 they get to try that again.
    * Magic Mind - Fighters get a lot of ASI so use that. Since you only get two cantrips maybe you want to enhance that by getting *War Caster* so you can cast booming blade if they try to go around you, get *Magic Initiate* for more options and a extra casting. or just go and get *Fey Touched* because maybe you want to Misty step somewhere or hex that fool
    * Annoying Darkness Hunter
    If you want to take a challenge later in your career you can take blind fighting combat style and the darkness spell and hunt down those annoying mages. This is a dangerous path and you can only do it when your party is it near or can see though magic darkness but if you can pull it off … only the Shadow knows (plus 10 gp if you know the reference)
    These are additional ideas to try and I hope it helped someone get some ways to make the Character on paper they want so they can role play with confidence.

    • @TheRobversion1

      just be aware that throwing in melee range imposes disadvantage. having a push effect would help here such as a bludgeoning weapon and crusher.
      this also locks in your bonus action where there are many other more effective things you can do with your bonus action. you can actually attack 2x (melee or ranged), do the same amount of dmg and leave your bonus action free for something else.
      for a thrower, a kensei 6 or dipping artificer 2 is more effective and less taxing on the action economy than weapon bond.
