Lovely Gloria in Elxcelsis...makes us swing, yea. God (or rather Herr Bach) wants us to swing. Glorious choral singing in Et in Terra Pax, its sheer beauty brings tears to the eyes. Great orchestra, soloists and conductor, and superb acoustics of what looks like quite a cavernous hall of.....a church? Thank you, dank je wel for the post.

Great performance of one of the greatest masterpieces in music history. It's a shame that this beautiful choir will not be subsidized anymore from 2017! And what a great conductor is Daniel Reuss! Conducting, in my opinion, means making exactly the movements that let the musicians play the way you want to have it as conductor. Daniel Reuss does this in optima forma, like nobody else does! I can't stop looking at his conducting, really top class!

This is the very best performance of the b-minor! And what a lovely director: the chorus as well as the instrumentalists are beautifully in sync with Reuss. Thank you for posting this. Watch those "golden moments" between the 1st violin and his friend! Perfect. Papa Bach must be smiling.

Of this very pleasant rendition of Bach's Mass, I retain the performance of soprano Marielle Kirkels. Perfect self-restraint, perfect modulations, perfect breathing, perfect diction! Not a five but a ten stars performance, Ms. Kirkels!

Gorgeous voices for the Christie Eleison duet and what a Gloria! Only the genius of JS Bach could have conceived of such a stupendous piece of music like this, the summum bonum of Western civilization, here given a glorious performance by inspiring and highly accomplished singers and musicians. Merci.

A legcsodálatosabb felvétel, amit ebből a műből hallottam! Értehető a bach-i zenei nyelv minden motívikus, s nagy fúga téma átfogó, mérnőki pontossággal építkező nagy íve, formai szerkezetének minden zenei statius létezése, s egymásra épülő, a lélek szárnyalását, a bach-i hit mélységének, s a kinyilatkoztatás földi, zenei hangokban kódolt szellemi mélysége. A karmester úgy fogja össze az előadókat, s a hallgatót egy befogadó közösségé, a mű szeretetétenek egész lényében átsugárzó egyszerűen a zenei folyamat lényegre öszpontosító, kifejező mozdalataival, hogy feltárul a rengeteg hang nemes egyszerű zenei logikája. Minden zenei gesztust, a zenei mélységek, s a tobzódó, örömtelei boldog magaslatokba repíti velünk, s bennünk ujjászülettetve, lelkünk titokzatos világát megérintve, hogy katartikus élményt adva, felemel a szádokkal korábban megírt hagokká formált bachi zenei világ tökéletességébe. S a többi visszacsalogató rész íme: 1:06:42 időnél. Zenei játék az egész, játék a bach-i hangokkal, a lelked hangjaival, engedd e játékot nap, mint nap visszatérni e felvétellel, hogy megszerethesd úgy, mint akik előadják, s azok hallgatók, akiknek a fülében ez már örömzene, az összes tétel sokszínűségének, lelki mélységeinek, s felemelő szépségeinek, égi harsonák fényének átélésével, s felfedezésében, e hosszú mű megértésének útján.

The Mass Hohe Messe is a big mystery. No one knows for what occasion Bach has written his last completed work, nowhere is clear for how many vocalists Bach work meant, and also about the instrumental interpretation is little known. In addition, the name Hohe Messe not even of Bach. It's so all in all a great puzzle. After the death of Bach came this mass in the decay and only in1833 Mendelssohn sharing this mass on picks. Although there was little interest to 1845 for the first commercial edition.

I am not that into choral with my instrumental music, but really nice. I saw some people being super critical below and I don't get that. It's lovely. The balance is pretty good between the choir and instruments, but I wish I could hear some of the instruments a bit better, but that's not important, just a wish.

There was an earlier version fitting the Lutheran Mass, which he expanded later.

48:30 the horn blower does not have time to clean his horn. How would Bach have done this ? Keep a hair blower ready. As soon as you don't play switch on the hair blower...

I am not sure it went into obscurity like that. Beethoven was trying to get a copy, and Haydn took one with him everywhere on his travels. Baron van Swieten was a big Bach fan promoting the music to Mozart and then Beethoven.

To my mind, it seems as though opera ought to be like this. That . . . somehow . . . they've taken the scores and buried the interplay of sound with 'Wow' that doesn't actually belong. Every once & a while I hear this sort of love for sound when I listen . . . but then it becomes a 'fleeting glimpse'. So weird that that is done.

What kind of instrument is it in the "Quoniam"? Is it a natural horn? Seems to be very difficult to play.

Is the horn player having some intonation problems initially for Quoniam tu solus sanctus... must be a difficult instrument to master, this valveless infernal baroque instrument. Nonetheless, a great job.
