This might not be news to you but I restore synthetic wigs for local theater companies and I do so by putting them in rollers and then pouring boiling water, usually from a tea pot, right over the curlers and then letting them dry. This usually takes about two days but the results are great.

Don’t boil synthetic wigs, the boiling water will begin to straighten the curls. Soak your wigs in FABRIC SOFTENER overnight, detangle and let dry, your wig will be back to brand new.

Thanks. That's how I messed mine up and still trying to get the curls to bounce back.

    • @JulianChild

@@StephanieDHicks All I can say is that it still works for me. I let them cool and dry with the curlers left in an the wigs look like new.

@@JulianChild do you soak the wig overnight and detangle the wig while it's still damp the next day? And then hang it up to dry? Do you rinse the wig with cold water the next day after you soak it?

    • @JulianChild
      @JulianChild 3 месяца назад

@@erinnmackie3507 To restore a synthetic wig? No, I don't soak, it's unnecessary. I put the set (curlers) in, carefully pour boiling over the curlers while it's still on the head form, let it dry and then take the curlers out, comb it out but the drying process can take longer than a day. Think of it as working with plastic. To detangle, I will use a lot of cheap conditioner and comb it through, starting at the very ends, and that can be done before or after you've done the actually set. Once you've used the boiling water technique to give it its shape, it's just going to bounce back after each washing.
Erin, I am extremely tired, I hope I'm not confusing you.

If you're still dealing with matting in the back I recommend using a clothing steamer to steam that section whilst you comb it with a wide toothed comb, very gently starting at the ends and working your way up. Ideally a wig should be completely detangled before submerging into a pot of boiling water.

Start by brushing it out and straightening the entire thing with a flat iron. Be sure to test an inconspicuous area first. Try at 300°. Some of them can go up to 370. Then braid it and dip it in boiling water for about 30 seconds and then dip it in cold water. Take the braids out and shake it and voila, fresh curls!

I fix all my synthetic wigs to fix this wig I would have detangled the hair with a wig brush the plat the hair up to freshen up the waves. To soften the fibers I would use fabric softener. Also, I don't actually keep the fire to the water like in cooking the hair, I just bring it to a boil then submerged the hair for 5-10 minutes. The same way we use to curl the ends of-of braids extensions back in the day .

Well if im not mistaken the hair is to be combed out first with a paddle brush because due to the hair is of synthetic fiber which is plastic, you have a greater chance of it knotting up and harder to fix if just submerged in boiling water like that.... Am I wrong?! Now this method is very new to me but I will stick to putting the hair on a stand and pour the boilin water on the hair... Great option though but not safe enough for me 🤔🤔🤔🤔

It needs to be combed out before putting it into the pot. Start from the bottom and work your way up

Does the Silicon mix leave the hair greasy or sticky or what?

It leaves the wig soft and bouncy but the smell is horrible... It smells like hair relaxer and stinky feet and the odor lasts for days even after washing/cowashing

YvetteLuvsBeauty, you have such a soothing, genteel voice....then you said "You will burn the shit out of yourself". I was not expecting that and started laughing so hard that I almost slid out of my chair and I'm not sure how far I spit my drink!

Wow...I've been curling my wigs for years before they had the heat resistance wigs. You can simply spray the hair with water and curl.

Btw for the back brush it out. Then braid it to match the curl pattern then dip in the hot water. Air dry or blow dry, take out braids

Your wig looks good but if you comb your wig with a wide teeth comb then add your conditioner; a great amount depending on the amount of hair it will renew the kinks and matted hair in back and will look brand-new again. Thanks for sharing this video.
