This might not be news to you but I restore synthetic wigs for local theater companies and I do so by putting them in rollers and then pouring boiling water, usually from a tea pot, right over the curlers and then letting them dry. This usually takes about two days but the results are great.
Don’t boil synthetic wigs, the boiling water will begin to straighten the curls. Soak your wigs in FABRIC SOFTENER overnight, detangle and let dry, your wig will be back to brand new.
@@JulianChild do you soak the wig overnight and detangle the wig while it's still damp the next day? And then hang it up to dry? Do you rinse the wig with cold water the next day after you soak it?
@@erinnmackie3507 To restore a synthetic wig? No, I don't soak, it's unnecessary. I put the set (curlers) in, carefully pour boiling over the curlers while it's still on the head form, let it dry and then take the curlers out, comb it out but the drying process can take longer than a day. Think of it as working with plastic. To detangle, I will use a lot of cheap conditioner and comb it through, starting at the very ends, and that can be done before or after you've done the actually set. Once you've used the boiling water technique to give it its shape, it's just going to bounce back after each washing. Erin, I am extremely tired, I hope I'm not confusing you.
If you're still dealing with matting in the back I recommend using a clothing steamer to steam that section whilst you comb it with a wide toothed comb, very gently starting at the ends and working your way up. Ideally a wig should be completely detangled before submerging into a pot of boiling water.
gloria101231 - Absolutely!!! Synthetic fibers react to fabric softener, just as to clothing in the rinse cycle smooths the fabric the same thing happens to synthetic wigs 🌹
Start by brushing it out and straightening the entire thing with a flat iron. Be sure to test an inconspicuous area first. Try at 300°. Some of them can go up to 370. Then braid it and dip it in boiling water for about 30 seconds and then dip it in cold water. Take the braids out and shake it and voila, fresh curls!
I wonder if using "detangler" on the back-underneath might have untangled it enough for that section to do what the rest of the wig dig. I think it was a great experiment gone good! Thanks for sharing! Any updates!?
Blasian Lila Mr/Mrs Lila, plz tell me if I may put Rit synthetic dye in w the Silicon plz and thank you. I need to go darker (#4 medium dark brown) w my “Curly Red Carpet” wig.. or, should I dye b4 I moisturize? What are your thoughts?
I wonder what type of synthetic hair that is? I expected it to straighten the hair because I've boiled synthetic hair wigs before and it straightens it completely. I have also taken straight wigs, curled them on rods and dipped them to make super curly wigs!
If u spray the wig with a bottle of water and conditioner mix then comb out the hair . Either braid it into 6 or use curling rods then boiling hot water let fully dry then remove braids or rods . I find this method brings the wig back to life 💯 on synthetic wigs .
I use a detangler brush made by Conair, picked it up at my local Wal-mart. I wish I knew about boiling wigs early on. I can't tell you how many wigs I've tossed out over the years.
Seems like it worked great. Do you think the silicone was necessary? I would use a plastic basin place the wig and silicon in there and pour... Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing. I will try this method. But I'm going to use fabric softener instead of the silicon. Your unit looks great. I could see the difference.
I read that fabric softener worked on matted doll hair. I did it for my little girls dolls and that's some silky shiny hair now. It should work on the matted part of the wig too.
You can try fabric softener on the back of the wig. That’s what they use on old crunchy doll hair. I don’t think it will work on human hair, just the synthetic.
Sooo I've been watching videos all night on a can't sleep binge &I think I'm going to try this today with either my synthetic tracks or wig. I'll definitely let you all know how it goes! Will be using fabric softener.
Right!? I was watching, wondering if this would ruin my stainless steel. I think a trip to Goodwill needs to happen, before I think about boiling wigs lol.
Omg! We use to do this all the time when my friends and I was in high school, we had to rod our weaves and put it in hot water and lay it out to dry we put it in the microwave and bam we had our hair styles
T. Thompson Yas! But the microwave was our best friend when it came to those ponytails and our parents yelling at us for burning out and putting hair in the microwave, those was the day's?
Same result I got with my old curly wig. It's the curly hair that's hardest to get. I didn't du 15 minutes, but I thought that might be why the back was left like that. I'm glad you used this wig. Most people use a wig that isn't really messed up, and are like... "It worked!“ Did it? Did it really? Hmmmmm. Good video 🤗💐💝🦋
Well first of all, I don't know what you are trying to achieve by boiling this wig. Are you trying to straighten the curls down by boiling it. You didn't let us know anything.
I fix all my synthetic wigs to fix this wig I would have detangled the hair with a wig brush the plat the hair up to freshen up the waves. To soften the fibers I would use fabric softener. Also, I don't actually keep the fire to the water like in cooking the hair, I just bring it to a boil then submerged the hair for 5-10 minutes. The same way we use to curl the ends of-of braids extensions back in the day .
Omg! First off you have such a cute face! Lol. Secondly the wig came out fantastic too! Thanks so much for showing this. Gonna try it with my blond wig 😄
I put entirely way to much hair spray on one of my wigs and it's super stiff, dry , and rough I've washed it, but it's still not how it use to be how can I make it soft and movie again any suggestions?
When the wig tangles, mix some conditioner and spray the hair and gently comn throiugh the hair. Also next time you boil the wig, put it varefully into a large net, (hairnet) and then put it in the water. Maybe don't actually boil the water, just make it very hot.
Jess3x Fabric softener can matify synthetic hair if left on to long. A little suggestion; use mix on hair before boiling: comb through tangles, rinse with water and air dry. It will prevent having to cut tangled strands afterwards.

Ok it worked! I think, because you didn’t show the inside bottom part of the wig where it was really tangled before you put it in the pot. show it afterward. Thanks for the heads up on the silicon mix I will be looking that up

comb out the back, braid it then put it in hot water, leave it to dry then unravel the braid. it'd be as good as new
You can also reset it and place it under a. Hooded dryer.
