I don’t find it sad. He traveled, he picked us! I’m proud to know we appeal to a man like him. Millions of Americans have never been more than twenty miles from home. They are judging their own country with a micro view. If more Americans had the ability to travel, they would see how magnificent this country is. Our government is great. Our politicians, not so much. Lots of people don’t see the difference. Experiencing more gives people the opportunity to see things with a more accurate view.

Personally, I actually like his choruses and hooks a lot. They`re catchy, melodic with nice flows and they always have a message that compliments the theme of the song. It's different, it's original, it's his own unique style. He doesn't have to "fix" anything about it.
I LOVE the chorus in Toms songs, all of them. Hope he never changes that. I watch 'numerous' reaction videos, honest ones that will critique a part of the song they may disagree with (rare tho) and I have NEVER heard anyone critique his chorus. You just don't fix something that isn't broken.

I think it's allright in this one. But I agree overall with the critism. Choruses was his weakest part of his songs. But listen to his newest songs. Riot, Fighter and Sheeple. Riot being my favorite chorus of the 3 I think. Don't even usually like autotune, but that one is so catchy He's gotten a lot better with the choruses. So the feedback payed off.

Everyone who says they don't like his choruses can't ever really seem to articulate why or what they would do differently. I wish someone would say something more than "I don't like it" or "it's whack" or whatever. As a songwriter myself I just want to understand because I think he generally writes very good choruses.
Most don't understand how to structure a song anyway. They don't know what a chorus is for or a hook is for the most part. Most new music today don't have any hook to it or even structure to tie everything together. Just my opinion. This is why some people like 80s music over today's music.

The style that rap uses is more akin to the rhythm speak style that was predominantly used in vaudeville back in the late 19th and early 20th centuries...a good example of this is "rock island" from The Music Man. Staccato vocals have a different phrasing and feel than that. Now that "rap" style is used in things by all sorts of bands but it is used for texture. Rap in and of itself relies almost entirely on rhythm so the staccato style doesn't lend itself very well to that over the long haul, it has been used by some artists, but they always have to change their musical approach in those instances. I played this to a group of middle-aged women (in England) only today and whilst they're not attuned to rap, they loved the chorus and it made them listen to the words of the song more!! Tom isn't only appealing to the rap brigade hence the great riff choruses!! This guy is a poet for modern times!
Choruses are SUPPOSED to present a certain contrast to the verses. Otherwise you have monotony. I’ve been a musician for over 40 years…I dig his choruses.

Everyone who says they don't like his choruses can't ever really seem to articulate why or what they would do differently. I wish someone would say something more than "I don't like it" or "it's whack" or whatever. As a songwriter myself I just want to understand because I think he generally writes very good choruses.
Anyway I get what you're saying people just don't get that the chorus is not supposed to be the same as the other parts of a song.
Most don't understand how to structure a song anyway. They don't know what a chorus is for or a hook is for the most part. Most new music today don't have any hook to it or even structure to tie everything together. Just my opinion. This is why some people like 80s music over today's music.

The style that rap uses is more akin to the rhythm speak style that was predominantly used in vaudeville back in the late 19th and early 20th centuries...a good example of this is "rock island" from The Music Man. Staccato vocals have a different phrasing and feel than that. Now that "rap" style is used in things by all sorts of bands but it is used for texture. Rap in and of itself relies almost entirely on rhythm so the staccato style doesn't lend itself very well to that over the long haul, it has been used by some artists, but they always have to change their musical approach in those instances. Staccato vocals can range in metal from things like Disturbed, Coal Chamber, and Slipknot to things like Static-X and Lamb of God....to even more aggressive deathcore acts and even death metal and other extreme metal bands.

I played this to a group of middle-aged women (in England) only today and whilst they're not attuned to rap, they loved the chorus and it made them listen to the words of the song more!!
