I watched Scary Movie 3 and don't remember a thing about it. I remember parts of Signs even though I haven't watched it. I respectfully disagree... but I still condemn Chris Stuckman for being a mediocre reviewer.
Signs was different. I like it. It had some creepy shit in it. Well acted. Not sure where 72 million went to though... it took place in a house mainly.
25 millions to Gibson plus 1 million for his expenses, 12.5 millions to Shyamalan for writing, directing and co-producing. 1 Million to Phoenix. We're already at only 30 millions left for making the actual movie and paying the rest of the crew.
Signs scared the crap out of me as a kid. I couldn’t sleep for days.. didn’t help we lived next to corn fields. I blocked off my windows with pillows. My dad would pace back and forth in front of my door and make clicking sounds 😆
I remember watching Signs and enjoying it as an experience but even at the time, with my tiny 18 year old brain, there was this prevailing sense of "Oh, you went with that central idea and thematic content and you just COMMITTED to that, sense, character, and story be damned. Impressive."
Fun fact: Signs makes more sense if you realize the "aliens" are actually demons invading, which explains a variety of things: 1: They can't enter the house because demons need invited in, and because Mel Gibson's character being Faithful but doubting as the movie goes on explains why the demons can enter more and more as time goes by. 2: This also explains why the "interstellar" race can't handle wood, and why regular weapons are not very effective. 3: The glasses of water are actually holy water, because the priest is blessing the water when he leaves them there. 4: The wife's warnings/presence in dreams is actually prophetic visions to the son, who's still the most Faithful/open to God. 5: Those "crop circles" are actually demonic language, or something. It's been a while since I watched the video on the theory, so I don't remember this part fully.
Have you seen the episode? I mean EFAP #289??? They adress this theory, it is bullshit. 1) First mention of aliens "door problems" comes from M.Night character who LOCKED ALIEN IN SOME SHED. INSIDE! 2) Baseball bat seems wery efective 3) Dauther leaves water everywhere is she priest also?! 4) Also genious warnings like "swing it" at enemy in your house, fully unexpected action, totaly was worth dying for. 5) This theory works only if you have a vague memory of the movie, because it ignores a lot of scenes and information that we receive...
It's a great example of using out of universe reasoning to justify in-universe events. Like if I drew parallels between The Last Jedi and Arthurian legend, because I'd found some Old English text saying 'and then Lancelot tried to kill Mordred as a child, then went and ate raw fish for years as the kingdom fell into chaos", that doesn't make it appropriate to adapt into the Star Wars setting because those events wouldn't make sense in the context the filn is set in.
@@Burkhart4192 ??? This is a theory about the movie being subtle instead of blatant in what it is. Also, you don't hear about it much, but there are people who have had alien abduction incidents stop because they sincerely called out to Jesus for help and developed a relationship with God/Jesus, pointing to the real life possibility that alien abductions might actually be demonic.
@@hariman7727 I'm not sure how to put it more clearly. You can't rely on symbolism, metaphor, and hidden meanings to explain away blatantly contradictory events in the plot, because those things are on two different levels of reality.
Flanagan recently made The Life of Chuck which is coming out next year theatrically, a Dark Tower series, and an Exorcist remake. I'm excited to see them all, and sad that his anthology series era is at an end
The dog wasn't forgotten. It was left outside because they were a threat to the children, which was established earlier. The holy water theory can work because there's a theory that the daughter is a saint.
You don't need to see the movies Scary Movie parodies, I watched Scary Movie 1 as a kid and I had no idea what Scream was. And I honestly still don't even know what movies Scary Movie 2 parodies
I actually really liked _The Beaver._ Mel Gibson, Jodie Foster (pretty sure she's the main producer on it, and it was her idea to bring Mel on which pissed her fans off), Anton Yelchin (RIP), and was the first time i saw Jennifer Lawrence in something. Solid movie about depression and maladaptive habits putting a family through the wringer. Between Mel Gibson's wierdness IRL and Jodie Foster's weirdness IRL, the movie ended up with a lot of undeserved hate at the time. Anton Yelchin really stood out to me in it though.
The conversation was good but it's a pity you guys didn't even thought about mentoning the most relevant theory and most thought to be accurate for the movie, that the aliens are demons.
25:58 yeah we don't care that they don't care, they're spending 10s of millions and they don't care? Sounds like they're fools and they should absolutely be criticized, imagine if we got a well written monsterverse with actual well written fights, it would've been lovecraftian if human main charactes, or badass as fuck if they considered stakes and power scaling accurately. People need to wake up and stop consuming nonsense.
what arcane 'time travel' are they talking about ?? sounds like a bunch a false assumptions , nothing in any trailer released suggests "time travel'' in any way .
I remember my grandmother saying to me. “I don’t care what they told you in school. Chris Stuckmann was a good movie reviewer, and black.”

Scary Movie 3 > Signs, regardless of what Chris Suckmann says.

The aliens in Signs are more well-behaved than some tik-tok'ing tourists with Main Character Syndrome visiting Britain and Japan.
Aliens leaving cryptic crop circle signs is distasteful.......... to me.
Why? if i may ask.
But if they're demons and want to creep people out and make them doubt everything they know... (see my other comments)
Than you for upping my catch and making it super.

It's a pretty strong theory if you're willing to listen.
Otherwise, I see no point to your comments.
A horror movie you guys need to reach to is ShowGirls. Absolutely terrifying.
The Room. You have to see Tommy Wiseau's naked body repeatedly. The horror. The horror.
