How to connect your laptop to your TV using an HDMI cable - Easy

- In this video I will teach you how to connect your laptop to your TV using an HDMi cable. A Lenovo Windows laptop and Sony Bravia HDMI TV were used in this video.
It's a straightforward process as the video / tutorial demonstrates. Just follow these steps. Steps 1-3 cover setting up/turning on your equipment. Steps 4-7 cover the different output options when using an HDMi cable.
1. (00:50) Ensure that the HDMi cable is plugged into your TV, remembering which port the cable is connected e.g. HDMI1 / HDMI2 etc.
2. (1:01) Turn the TV on, going to the correct HDMI input.
3. (1:18) Turn the laptop on, plugging the HDMI cable into the laptop when ready.
Go to the display settings on your laptop - getting to these settings will vary by computer. If you have a search bar towards the bottom of your screen, type in the word display settings, or it may be that you can go through the notifications panel. Alternatively, you can go the control panel and look for appearance and personalisation settings.
Regards how to connect a computer/laptop to a TV, when presented with the display setting options, you can choose output for the following:
4: (2:42) Display on laptop/computer screen only.
5: (3:46) Duplicate the displays i.e whatever is on the laptop/computer screen will also show on your TV screen.
6. (4.25) Output the display to your TV only.
7. (6:36) Extend the displays from your laptop/computer to TV so you will be able to run two different programs requiring two different screens, e.g a website on the laptop/computer and excel spreadsheet on the TV.

What resolution on that laptop? 1366x768? . And What resolution or inch on your TV monitor?

And you can improve the quality of matter in the video by using two cameras (one focusing on the laptop) you can also trim the unnecessary footage like the first few seconds (you already connected to TV with your laptop and again started to connect )

saving money on my cable bill.... just have local channels...i record channel on my computer using a screen recorder then simply hook up the laptop to the tv and play my show.. saves me 13 bucks a month
i just want to use it to watch the Metropolitan Opera free streamings they are offering during the pandemic. They recommended doing this after I asked them HOW?. Watching opera on a laptop is really desperate! Will try tomorrow!

~ PLEASE NOTE: This connection will only work, if your lap top is a newer model with an HDMI port, other wise it cannot be hooked up as shown.

Correct me if i am wrong but I am assuming the hdmi ports on my monitor/tv is only an imput and the hdmi on my laptop is external. With this setup, in system it does not get detected. I also rebooted the system..still no detection...do you think i have to go into my bios and see if the hdmi ports are enabled?
Hi Anthony. My understanding is that the HDMI port on the monitor/TV is an input port. Regards the laptop port, if it's only labelled 'HDMI' then it's output only. However, if it's labelled 'HDMI in' then it is an input port. If you go devices/printers, can your computer see your monitor/TV? Sometimes connecting a monitor via HDMI can be a bit unreliable. Is the HDMI cable okay/compatible? Thanks.
@@TheTechGuru Yes, I do see my TV/Monitor in Device and printers. On the TV/Monitor i have HDMI and HDMI 2. Cable is new. TY.

Your display is helpful, but DOES NOT ADDRESS MY PROBLEM. I have a smaller Samsung & I can easily connect it to one of two open HDMI connectors. Not so my Sony Bravia. It has three filled HDMI slots with heavy duty cables connected to DVD and Stereo system. There does not seem to be one to use with my computer. There are two open slots but I am not sure they are HDMI--they havwe audio & video symbols. No one bothers to show the back or side of the computer where these slots are.
Does it have any HDMI slots for. me.

Hi :) I successfully connected my pc to my ultra HD TV with a HDMi cable. PC is windows 8.1 Everything was working great watched Utube and catchup TV etc. THEN I stupidly changed the setting in PC right side bar Devises> Project > to "PC SCREEN ONLY" and both pc monitor and TV went black. When I try to go back to the original "DUPLICATE" again it will not select. What can I do? IT was heaven and now nothing!!!! Thanks for any help

I have an older t.v. Toshiba. I can't get a picture, says no signal. Does it have to be a smart tv?? I dont think the one i am try is a smart t.v.

Yes but only if you connected it by hdmi wire and set audio as an audio in TV not in laptop

My hdmi port use to work. The 2nd monitor would pop up but after a few files got erased whenever I click on detect monitor I get an error and if hdmi cord is plugged in I get some kind of graphics card error on boot up so currently using a vga cord. Any ideas on what I'm to do??

Ive been running a 42 inch HD LG Tv for a couple of years now no remote direct to you laptop or computer no big deal just connect to your HDMI what ever is on your laptop or computer comes up on the screen no setup or nothing your just changing the display thats all not a big deal you can use your remote for the TV and make your adjustments to match your laptop or computer thats all there is to it.i only use TVs for all my computers and laptops better display and on the long run cheaper go ahead try it get your laptop connect to your tv using the HDMI hello your there...if your using WIFi and your TV is a smart tv do the wifi search on your laptop or computer everthing else is the same.no tech. needed

@@TheTechGuru I have similar problem. My laptop doesn't give me the option (in the sound settings) to play audio through the tv. On my old laptop, this wasn't a problem. I had the option to play audio through my pc or tv.
@@nivekramsahai1882problem may be the tv side , as some tv don't have ARC audio supported in HDMI port , only HDMI 1 port generally have ARC.
May be connecting to 2nd HDMI will solve

It would have been far more helpful if you hadn't assumed that people automatically known what the various ports looked like. It would also help if you had someone zoom in to show what you had on the screen - too far away to see & you waffle a bit much. Quite disappointing
