NRL Hunter matches do a great job of simulating hunting conditions. I really appreciated all the help with my first match at Arena. A big weak area for me was ranging the targets. On more than one occasion I rushed and used the wrong range. That is not a skill you practice in the PRS but is very applicable for long range hunting. I would love to see more NRL Hunter matches in the southeast. Maybe even some one day matches. Thanks for supporting the shooting community!
Great video! Thanks Mike and Kili! Mike, I completely agree. I really enjoy PRS matches, but after my first Hunter match last year in Price, UT, I knew this was the format that I enjoyed the most. Hope to see you in Idaho!
Like that shirt lol, I got one this past Saturday. I’m local to arena. I was supposed to RO for the NRL hunter match but it didn’t work out, we did a NRL x .22 hunter match there this past weekend and it was a blast
WELL PUT/WELL SAID - TOTALLY AGREE. A couple of friends, older than myself by 5 & 15 yrs., whom were both Elite Military, taught me to train like this in similar ways aswell as PRS style & similarly, & I'm going back nearly 40 yrs. when I was in my early twenties,.....like you said, - All great training & competition. Thanks fer sharing.
I’ve only shot PRS for the past two years in the South East division. I must say I love shooting PRS. With that being said, I would love to shoot the NRL Hunter, it’s very attractive and will add a whole other skill set. I just wish we had the more Venues to have more than one match in the South. Next year if they hold it at Arena again I will definitely go. Great video! I enjoy your guys content.
Excellent. Skills is fun and certainly instructional. I’ve invested in the sport with KILO3K, Waypoint 2020, scope, two vets, and all to the point that I had to back out of events because I expended my $$$ in equipment. I love the NRL Hunter but it would be a year before I could jump back in. Trying hard not to sell out.
I'd like to shoot NRL hunter but they can't seem to make anything happen in the northeast (New England specifically). Presumably we don't have the terrain for it but I would sure like to have at least one match locally.
I would love to get into it, but it seems limited in the number of matches. And I don't see any "local" matches. Am I missing something? The idea is super appealing as I prepare for my first big game hunt out West. Thanks for the video!
@@randyrucker01 Several points mentioned hunting, I'm just wondering if he would still prefer NRLH over PRS if he weren't a hunter I suppose. Regular NRL is gone.
@@randokeebs2972 I hear your concern but in the larger context its less of a "hunter" match and more of a '"real rifleman competition" in the sense that to use a rifle you have to do a few things: 1, locate the target. Most targets out in the world whether they are animals, steel, or anything dont stand in front of range berms very long. 2, range the target. you cant hit anything at a distance without at least a reasonable range finding ability (laser, reticle, good guess work). 3, engage. Like other competition styles that emphasize turbo shooting after a prolonged period of data collection and taking out all of the realistic elements of shooting you get to bang away.. the hunter matches combine all of these into a cool package because most of the time you have to do them all in a relatively short time frame or one of the elements changes on you. The hunter matches are worth trying at least. Dont get me wrong, a lot of people with great fundamentals excel at PRS style and they are good and its pretty dang fun to bang rounds off in 90 seconds.. but many of those guys wouldn't be functional off of a square range and even liabilities in many contexts. So be an asset and round out your skills!
As an avid hunter the only thing I can say is this..... "Never, ever, have I seen anyone in a hunting situation use a bag and or sandbag to make a successful harvest on an animal" I would be so much more involved and attracted to the exact competition if only the competitor was NOT allowed to carry a bunch of crap hunters don't actually carry.......Seriously, it's a joke to see someone carry so much stuff during an NRLmatch. It's not a real hunting situation..... I know, I know, it's a competition but there should be a new class "Real Hunter", gun, ammo, binos, bipod and range finder! No bags, no ranging binos, no tripods...just the normal blue collar Joe set up. just my 2cents but seriously, hunting with bags and tripods.....too ridiculous :)
I think that maybe true in the circles you run in but I can absolutely promise you support bags and tripods are becoming very normal not only on hunts but on battlefields with the military. I would encourage you to have a more open mind. Sometimes there actually is a better mousetrap.
@@longrangewiththelillys1221 okay, i'm 55 years old and would love to run the game....but hunting isn't a game and you usually only engage with one animal....so, sometimes you could get a follow up shot, so, shooting from one position at 4 or 2 from two or 1 for 4 is a bit silly too! Not that i don't understand the need to please the scoring system or the number of rounds shot (something to consider) powder, primers, brass and bullets are kind of rare these days (for most of us, maybe you don't understand this because you shoot hundreds of rounds without thinking about us...) I'm not trolling just want more normal dudes to feel like they have a good experience or want to get involved. This should not become an elite sport only available to the sponsored or well to do, hunters hunt for food, they don't shoot thousands of rounds before a hunt and practice hundreds of hours a month.....(wish they did and could, but they don't). So, just trying to add a class "Real Hunter" that's all....maybe you can understand maybe not, but you know as well as I do that guys hit the field with license in hand with much less gear and much higher expectations than bragging rights. If you don't understand that then you are not an old school hunter! I truly am not trolling but perhaps you need to open your mind and understand true "sportsmanship" One shot, one kill!!!
Well if you want to show up to a contest and shoot 1 shot on one target be my guest. I’m sure we could work it out with the MD to sponsor you. In all seriousness I understand what you’re saying but the purpose of this competition is not only to determine a winner. But to provide training opportunities. I for one shot THOUSANDS of arrows over the course of the year to put myself in a position to close the deal on an elk when the moment was presented. Why would you not want to do the same with a rifle? Or at least be as well prepared as you can afford to be? You should look at the skills division. All the training and half the cost. You’re just not eligible for prizes.
And just food for thought here’s a article in outdoor life magazine about hunting with bags and tripods! www.outdoorlife.com/gear/hunting-rifle-aids/?fbclid=IwAR20rWAQfRTHoPyH_K4MzvrVw_iVS-Ucf_jfcfZD5yQPLwxXHoOsWO0eYPA
I don’t know where you hunt. But people out west almost always have a tripod and bags are becoming more common and can only help you here. I personally know multiple multiple people who use those. And while I don’t own range finding binos they are and would be game changing even if you’re just a blue collar guy. On the other note why would you want to pay as much as it is and only shoot one shot per stage and move? Why not play the game? It will only help you in a real hunting scenario because you practiced.

Love your channel. I’ve been wanting to get out and shoot a match for the first time and the NRL hunter events seem more my speed to try.

A match up in the mountains there would be epic!

I also enjoy NRL hunter better as well! I only wish there where more matches i could make it to.
Great content. Subbed!
Mike, if you could have only one bipod for Nrl Hunter, single pull or double pull? Thanks dude, love all your videos.
Double pull easily. It will do everything a single pull will plus give you more capability’s
What if you don't hunt? I like some of the ideas, but the hunting aspect doesn't affect me.
What about shooting in regular NRL or PRS matches?
