Before I saw your post I was just sitting here listening to these and thinking the very same thing. Songs had true meaning, you can listen to them for years on end and know where you were and what you were doing. You have a memory to each and everyone and very seldom could you be in a bad mood listening to these. Times were still hard but it sure was difficult to think about them while you were listening to them.
Not many know this song is about a woman thinking of her husband away, fighting in Vietnam. One of the cleverest anti-war songs ever. When her helplessness hits you, it hits hard.
One of the finest songwriters of the 20th century. RIP Mr. Bacharach. Thank you for the incredible songs that made the world a better place to live in.
@@kimberlyaustin8657 I thought you have gone back to the 60s already, together with those whose replied on your comments 5 years earlier. Me included. 😂😂😂. Anyway, stay safe, kim where ever you are.
I agree. Bacharach and David chose Dionne because her quirky and unique way complemented the unique and beautiful way they played. We will never see this again. I was blessed enough to see Dionne when I was a teenager in the 1960s and she was young and in her prime. She was unbelievably poised, beautiful, stylish and her voice!
My parents used to play Burt Bacharach with and without Dionne... Life seemed so simple and easy then... What I wouldn't give to hear that with them again... This song transcends generations and brings them together... God bless and thank you Mom and Dad!! For everything...

I won’t hold my head in sorrow if you should go away But i’ll stand here and remember just how good it’s been I know i’ll never love this way again . RIP Burt 🙏🏼🌹
Let me extend a heartfelt "Thank You, Burt!" on behalf of our American people for your IMMENSE contribution, as God's tonal blessing upon us. You are indeed a "NATIONAL TREASURE". Your "Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid" album is a masterpiece going back to 1969 at Ohio State University when I was a broke freshman & aspiring. Amazing to think, you were given the ultimate choice in adolescence to give up on piano lessons much your parents' dismay, and then you soon chose to persevere on your own volition when there was no coercion. Old age humbles the heart in repentance for the foolish things we wish we could erase and do differently, yet we rejoice for all the wonderful relationships & blessings we have shared with others. May the blessings of our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ, be upon you and your family as you leave this house for your eternal home. THANK YOU, BURT BACHARACH! PLAY ON!

Good morning mr. Burt Bacharach I have listened to your music since I was 10 years old I love your music then and I appreciate and love it even more now, I really wish I could meet you
A classic combination of two fabulous artists of my childhood. I just checked the birth year of Burt (1928), and it was the year after my mother, who died Christmas Eve 2011. This reinforces how very old I am now. Burt and Dionne were an amazing union. Dear God, I wish we had such musical unions now!
Burt trascended today confirming his Immortality, February the 9th, 2023 🙏 My condolences to all of us down here upon this terribly mortified Mother Earth 🔘 namaste
No, not at all. In fact there was NO personal relationship between the two of them but, musically it was a "Love Affair" like NO other and never will be again. Just my opinion
He could of married anybody his paycheck at the time says so but he married her even when it was over there was no drama She was Black stood alone in a music world full of vultures ready to take her out if she made a mistake she never did always was a lady
I grew up hearing Burt's and Hal songs, even those I didn't know they created. To me they defined and transcended their active years of creativity, so that the emotional connections made with their songs will span generations to come, as they did when first released.
Ir is simply a time capsule to our soul. Never to be repeated. Enjoy when and where you can. The voice, the arrangements. Our worries while intense at the time seem trite in today's world. Just sit back, tap your toes and sing along...
So many wonderful songs from the talented Mr. Bacharach. What was going on inside that head I wonder, that made his music so romantic and timeless. He must have been a romantic himself. Dionne Warwick's smooth vocals make the song such a pleasure to listen to.
Burt Bacharach is one super song writer who composed songs that forever stuck to my heart ❤️ as a kid in the 80s, such as "Raindrops keep fallin on my head" & "Close to you". My condolences to his wonderful family who witnessed his peaceful homecall. The Lord bless you all.💟🙏🏽 Greatly miss you 😪
All I can say is this/ The One And Only Burt Bacharach & Dionne Warwick/ Here it is 2022 and this song is still as beautiful as the day it came out/Why /Because it was written and sung by two all so talented people/That gave there heart and soul and it shows/The class the style the beauty of the vocals - instruments and words/The world will never see this level of pure talent again/And in the end these two so very talented performers made the world a little threw all there music/And for that I say thank Burt Bacharach and Dionne Warwick/

Hal David and Burt Bacharach together with Dionne Warwick defined an era in popular music. Separately, one can add another generation or two that each contributed to popular music and its resultant culture, a culture that is largely absent today in a blitz of hip hop, rap, and disco-driven electronica...none it approximating what went on before. An older generation can remember and pay homage to Bacharach-David while the current doesn't have a clue.
While the top 40 lists today are dominated by average music, I think that there are people of any age or generation who will appreciate class like this. There are singers and songwriters now who are producing good music. Some movie sound tracks today contain very good pieces. It's tempting to say that the music of the 70s, 80s (or pick any decade) was so much better but really we forget that there was some pretty awful stuff produced then as well. I'm sure that in (for example) 2050 some people will pick the best of today's composers and say "the music of 2016 was so much better than the music today". Someone once said "the music of today will be remembered long after Beethoven and Bach are forgotten.... but not before". (you could probably put Burt Bacharach in there too)
Mark, you present a reasoned, sober argument in support of some of what is produced today, especially, that of movie sound tracks from the 90s on. Several of today's top movie theme composers like Rachel Portman rival what Jerry Goldsmith did for Chinatown.
Coincidentally when I replied to you Chinatown was on my mind. It goes back some years now but if you listen to the theme from Road to Perdition by Thomas Newman I think you may find that to be a great piece. Also the departure scene from Gattaca by Michael Nyman is very good.
