Kia Soul Automatic Transmission fluid drain and fill

  • This is a step- by-step guide on how to drain and fill your automatic transmission on a 2015 Kia Soul. Kia decided to delete the transmission dip stick on the 2014 and up vehicles, but there is a service port on the front of the transmission housing. I'll show you two different options on how to determine the transmission fluid level.

    Any SP-4/SP-IV, SPH-IV, CP-IVM/SP4-M, SP-IV-RR, Mercon Low Viscocity ATF will work. Valvoline MaxLife Multi-Vehicle Transmission Fluid will also work. Been using Motomaster Multi-Vehicle Low Viscosity ATF made by CITGO since 2013 for my 2012 Hyundai Sonata. My change interval is every 2 years or 40k kms. and been doing it by myself. A 5-litre jug cost me CA$40.00. HYUNDAI and KIA use the same type of ATF.

      @@Zspeed Yes, it is a huge savings for me and for everyone, especially if the car owner is a DIY'er. Hyundai dealers just charges equivalent to 2 arms and 2 legs where car owners will just dedicate 2 hours of their time and some dollars for the ATF. The savings can go your 6/12/24 pack of beer, whiskey and/or Rhum. It may be challenging for first time doers. I also have a 2019 Kia Sportage 2.4 ltr. AWD with 29K kms. and uses the same type of ATF, so anytime this summer, I'll change the ATF and diff power transfer oils.... Great video ! ! !

    One more note, there is a passage hole on the fill plug, make sure that hole is line up with the feeder line from the cooler radiator when you tighten. make a mark will be great.

    That "Fill" bolt on top has a Vent, or Flo' hole that must be a-
    ligned properly upon installation. Failure to do so could be
    Catastrophic.

    I always just repump in the fluid enter the Overflow port until it starts flowing out. Never sure if it's supposed to be running or not. If it's running it will take in a half a quart more. Then when you turn off it will pour out. I have changed my 2017 several times since new. Just only never confirmed whether it should be running or off when waiting for the Overflow to drip out. Lots of opinions both ways. So I kind of just made it in the middle meet it in the middle

    Hi Z Speed. Amazing video, love all the detailed explanation. I read that you are planning to do the filter change on the next flush. Is it possible if you can record it and show the video. I recently purchased a Kia Soul 2021 2.0, it comes with the cvt transmission. On the manual it doesn't show any transmission fluid change schedule, it says is not necessary. I know is pure bs. How often should I replace the fluid on the cvt? Someone said that because those transmissions are extremely delicate, it should be done very 30k. What do you think?

    • @Zspeed
      @Zspeed  3 года назад +1

      To be honest, I have no experience with a CVT transmission. But I would change the Fluid at least every 50,000 miles! Just RUclips CVT transmission to see what the experts have to say about it and thanks so much for watching!

Always starts in Nutural. Pan is really rusted which makes me wonder if it is leaking. Went somewhere and they didn't want to flush,scared to take bolt out incase it broke. It was one of my kids cars don't know if Trans fluid was ever changed,at around 162,000. Could shifter problem be because fluid is so old ?? Thank you.

    If you put less than 1 gallon of back in the car it means you still have about 4 qts of dirty fluid left in the torque converter because the 2015 Kia Soul holds 7.7 qts of Automatic transmission fluid. That's the problem with NOT flushing the system out.

    Should I do this service?

    • @Zspeed
      @Zspeed  4 года назад +2

      Wow, 300,000 miles is incredible! If the transmission is not currently slipping or having problems shifting, you should be ok. But you will have to remove the service port on the side of the transmission because your fluid level should be running a little low at this time and you will need to use the port to get the proper fill level. Drive around for about a month and if everything is working OK, you should repeat this fluid drain and fill again and that will really rejuvenate your transmission fluid. Thank you so much for watching!!

    • @Ace7of7Cups
      @Ace7of7Cups 2 года назад +1

      It's better to drain then fill with the same amount fluid. This really does make a big difference on a used car that has not had regular transmission fluid changes. I am speaking from experience. It may seem that a flush is much better but I have yet to meet a mechanic that won't stand behind the advice of a drain and fill. There is a high risk that solid sediments getting move around during a flush will foul the transmission. This is why it's not recommended in the video.

    Well, you’re smart to never flush a transmission around a transmission shop for 12 years so I was heard about the competitors doing that and then charging customers three times the amount to go back and rebuild a transmission when they didn’t technically need it to be rebuilt they just needed to change the filter and fluid on their vehicles vehicles

      No I had an idea that popped in my head today and since you said that they make a plastic plug for that 2020 Kia soul and it should be the same for maybe the 2016 Kia soul plus I’m assuming I thought about instead of going with that same plastic plug that you were talking about that’s on the top to fill it once you remove that airbox I thought about making that same style plug out of metal with a CNC machine I’m working on saving up the money for a 3-D printer/CNC machine so I could make little automotive parts like that so I have to worry about it breaking if I can just get the dimensions or I guess go to the dealer and buy one or look one up online so I can put it into the computer with the 3-D printer/CNC machine and make a copy of it so that way I don’t have to run into the problem of it possibly breaking I don’t know if you have a Kia soul or if you were just working on one for the video for someone else
