i've been listening to your song over and over again, it touches me every single time, amazingly well done, sesini cok sevdim, and the meaning of the song its all from the heart.. Soul music.. Thank you for this, i needed it, the truth must always be revealed and not forgotten, no matter in which part of the world, we MUST find a way to love and heal each other, we MUST find peace, pleeeaaaase dont let hate take over you people!! Saol Jamala.. respect
Millions of people in Eastern Europe can sing this song. The Soviet death toll (and especially Stalin's) far exceeds the crimes committed by Nazi Germany. But Stalin was an 'ally' of the West. Therefore there was mass silence.
bullshit the mass silence is made by RUSSIA TODAY, by not even calling the victims victims in their history books And in their state definition of this mass crimes on sowjet. minorities. They even argue, that these victims dont deserve payback, because russia isnt the sowjet union, while showing of about winning w2 at the same time. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victory_Day_%289_May%29 *horrible is, that this woman wouldnt have the offical right to call her grandmother or dead aunt victim RIGHT NOW IN HER HOME (Crim) governed 2016 BY RUSSIA.*
Una cancion muy intima pero que se apega a toda clase de dolor, al igual que Jamala muy ancestral pero tambien moderna y abierta al mundo. 2016 ultimo año que la mejor cancion ganó en eurovision
..the refugee crisis in Europe was and is something that's moving and polarizing everyone nowadays in 2016 - almost every country in Europe has given it a deep thought and endless debates. Refugees are welcome, or the opposite. Somehow I believe this song also inspired many to vote - a vote against Europe being so split, so intolerant or simply undecided?
well it isnt only about the russian annextion of the crim and therby once again ignoring minorities in the crim-region etc. etc. its about the future of refugees without a country, too.
...it's hard to say who ignored what. As a German I clearly understood Russias worries about Crimea indirectly falling into "Western Hemnisphere" if Ukraine joined EU or Nato. This way or the other - people had to be moved, or change natioality, or they were fleeig home which had turned into a war zone.
Her song talking about her grandmother experience of war she was singing in 2016, was a miroir of what was happening in Crimea and Donbass and unfortunatly what's happening right now in 2022. It's so sad to see how a People of such a great country being attack over and over again but even if their enemy has tried to destroy , starve, eliminate them, they never succeed and will never do. They never lost their souls and kept singing! Putler is jalous and scared of their evolution, development, independance and wealth. He doesn't want Russians to see what they could be abel to live if they were free. His megalomany is going to destroy him and starve his poor people but they will finally be free, and Ukrain will also be ! That is my prediction.
I think that the only male singer who could accomplish this song would be Dimash, and he would give it the respect and credit it deserves for its history and beauty.
as a crimaen tatar i can confirm there are mistakes in lyrics men bu yerde yaşalmadım ( i didnt live here) yaşlığıma toyalmadım (i couldnt get enough of my youth) still beleive this song could be written better in all crimean tatar or just original verision wouldve won tbh
The first part is very moving, but then she can't wail in tune. My heart goes out to all those (including the Tartars) displaced by the Russian invasion of Krim and Donbass. 😢 😢
John Smith yes she did “wail” in tune. She’s using a scale of music for the second half that our western ears aren’t used to. It’s beautiful, but unexpected. and it wasn’t really that out of time.
+LilStitch the events of this song date back to 1944. It's the same as if France would start singing about Germans entering Paris during WWII. What would Eurovision be like if everybody would just bring a political message or a social message? It would result in a fight. Countries always have conflicts, but Eurovision is not the place to resolve them.
I see your point, but I don't think there should ever be laws and regulations about the subject matter of each song. That's democracy. It made such a refreshing change to hear her heartfelt personal lyrics, sung in a haunting way with a beautiful melody. All we've had on Euro in the past is the same old happy Barbie Doll plastic fantastic one hit wonders, full of wooden lyrics and pathetic cheesy backing props and effects. Songs should be emotive, full of premise and powerful enough to stir human emotions. In my book, she ticked every one.
A very special song. I wish her a good luck. An outcry of a soul detesting wars and craving peace.
How relevant is this song still my heart goes out to the people of the Ukraine may you know peace
By the way, 'Men bu yerde yaşalmadım' means I couldn't get old at this place.

Bringing politics to music contests is just disgusting
discusting is to pretend that nothing is happening.

Политике не место на конкурсе!!!
Это история, а не политика.
