Written by keyboardist and lead singer Robert Lamm, this is from Chicago's first album, "Chicago Transit Authority". Chicago was known as Chicago Transit Authority at the time.
So you've done Beginnings and 25 or 6 to 4 from this show. If you check out Make Me Smile from this show, you'll experience the third different vocalist. Plus Terry showcases how he stays in the pocket on rhythm lines and an epic solo too!
As someone who has enjoyed Chicago since the early 70s I love how you really got into the guys. Bobby Terry Peter Danny and Jimmy Walt Lee on the horns ... Nothing will ever compare. With only Bobby Jimmy and Lee still touring they still sound awesome. RIP Terry K
The horns gave all the early Chicago songs so much richness and for that trombonist James Pankow has to take a lot of the credit because he wrote all the horn arrangements. They're such an integral part of those classic early Chicago songs that it's impossible to imagine the songs without them.
If this had never happened 50 plus years ago and were released today, it would still sound like new musical territory. Very astute point about how complex this was musically and vocally. Great job.
Hi Rebeka, this entire concert is absolutely fantastic. It was recorded at Tanglewood in the western part of my home state Massachusetts. Tanglewood is best known as the summer residence of the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO). You should check out the amazing cover of this song (and other Chicago covers) by the band Leonid and Friends, which was started by a Moscow music producer/musician who has been a huge Chicago fan for decades and most of the incredible musicians/vocalists in the band are Russian, but 2 former members are Ukrainian and 3 current members are from Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. They're coming back to America for their 4'th tour this summer.
Greetings from Bonnie Scotland, Rebeka. A video you must react to is from Santana and the song is "Soul Sacrifice" live at Woodstock in 1969, it has always been my favorite video from the famous 3-day Festival back in 1969, anybody who has seen this video will tell you it is absolutely AWESOME, take care, Angel and Keep on Rockin'
@@neilphelan145 yep, my senior year too. Purples shows what an incredible guitarist was Terry; saw them Memphis '70 & then again Nashville '77 just prior to his death; incredible loss.
I was seventeen when this album came out, and a schoolmate and I went halfers on buying it. We still have it now with very few scratches on the vinyl. Brilliant album. Great UK memories. Thank you.
Every song on this Live at Tanglewood 1970 video is outstanding. IMHO, they were in the midst of their finest period. This period lasted until the death of lead guitarist, Terry Kath. An amazing band in their prime. some highlight to check out from this show include 25 or 6 to 4, Make Me Smile, Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is, I'm A Man, Colour My World to name a few. The whole band is all extremely talented musicians. I have since noticed that you did check out 25 or 6 to 4 but definitely check the rest out. Outstanding show. RUclips also has a video of the concert in its entirety if you want to experience a complete show. I feel so blessed to have seen so many acts in their prime like Chiocago, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Rush, Queen, Queensrych, and on and on. I would pay a king's ransom to experience it one more time. You are right. Nothing beat real musicians playing and singing live and not playing to tracks and lip syncing. The best part about seeing those show is that I paid $6.50 to $25.00 for good seats on the floor up front. Today kids are paying $250.00 - $1,500 a seat in the mezzanine at best to watch someone lip sync. SMH. I wish I could take you back in time.
Band's first single, in 1969. It got re-released a few years later, after the group had become a big success. The second one, "Questions 67 and 68", was also put out again. That one is my favorite Chicago hit.
This group (Still recording & touring has 38 albums (27 studio albums). If you go down this rabbit hole, I suggest you go chronologically. It will give you a flavor of the breathe, the diversity and the morphing of this band. I would first start with the first song off the first album "Introduction" (not a single, just a balzy Introduction to the band while you get introduced to the third lead singer's soulful voice). Can't wait to see you react to that.
You can get lost down the rabbit hole of the Terry Kath era of Chicago, from the Chicago Transit Authority album to Chicago XI. On their debut album as The Chicago Transit Authority cue up Poem 58. 9 minutes of PURE FUNK led by Terry Kath on guitar. FIRE!
Simply a great great band. Everyone in the band wrote songs, you don't see that too often. During the 60's & 70's if you went on stage & didn't sing live, you would have been run out off of the stage & out of town.
Awesome reaction!, 😃 I'm glad we can still have a taste of what live music was like back in the day. You don't see performances like this too much anymore, 😞 almost everything is auto-tune. Thank you! Peace! ☮ 🙏
Chicago was my very first concert ever around 1972 or 73. My two older sisters took me and a couple of friends. As my musical taste got heavier and Chicago got softer, I lost interest in them but I really enjoyed this reaction and hearing this song again. Thank you.
Love the reaction Rebeka. Love the hair color and hair style. A great Chicago song, made better live at Tanglewood. I highly recommend these Rebeka - Queensryche - Take Hold of the Flame (Live in Tokyo), Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name (Live Beast Over Hammersmith 1982), Alter Bridge - Blackbird (Live at Amsterdam), Frank Marino - Somethings Comin Our Way (Live at Agora Theatre) I think you will love all of them.
Dave I wouldn’t look at it like that. You sound like a glass half empty guy. Then there’s the glass half full guys but to me neither is the case in my opinion the glass just isn’t big enough. For you to have been there is a testament to your knowing good music 54 years ago!
I saw Chicago 3 times in concert. I'm from Chicago, I work for Chicago the city. I know the manager. He used to work for the city and owned a Hot Dog stand too. All te while managing the band. It started in the late 60's
What an incredible band, they don't make them like this anymore. Check out Leoned and Friends, they do a fantastic tribute version of many bands including Chicago, Earth Wind and Fire and more.
Was dropped back in Chicago back in 1969 from Army 11B tour at 21 yo. Combat hardened . Loved Chicago" back then as now along with alot of motown . Bam brings memories thanks .
Super great reaction ! Please do MAKE ME SMILE by Chicago, i seen Chicago 2x ,once with the Beach Boys where they played seven nights in a row at the Chicago Stadium aprox 1975 and once at the IL State Fair and was right in the front row ! never forget it as they were awesome !
I was at this concert... Summer of 1970... Tanglewood (in Western Massachusetts)... That SAME summer went to two other concerts there. First one Jethro Tull AND THE WHO performed... The other, SANTANA (one year after they burst onto the music scene at Woodstock)... So... The Who, Chicago & Santana... Nice to have a concert venue near where you live... And please forgive me for the personal additional note but this was "the song" that was playing in the background in my girlfriend's dorm room the evening we both became "adults" (college freshman year)...
Hi Rebeka, nothing like a beautiful reacter))) Thanks for your Honest reactions)..I look forward to more)) If you don't mind I'd like to add a couple more to your playlist, both country I think you'll like))) Warning tho-the second video is sad but I feel it's a message that has to be spread.. Here we go)) 1: Toby Keith - Courtesy Of The Red, White And Blue (The Angry American) (Lyric Video) 2: Martina McBride - Concrete Angel (Official Video)
Hey Rebeka, may I suggest some Bowie reactions? Heroes at Live Aid; Ashes to Ashes and Jump They Say promos. Ziggy Stardust from the final Ziggy concert at Hammersmith Odeon in '73, and Station to Station live at the Montreal Forum in 1976.
You are surely THE most beautiful reactor BUT, not just a pretty face, I love your appreciation and feel for the music, instrumentals and song structures, and who doesn't love an air drummer?? I do 😍
seeing both of your Chicago reactions I can't help but wonder how great your reactions would be on a good Grateful Dead live song or an Oingo Boingo live session.
All of the great bands are better live. You can record everything but the emotion of the moment. Of course all we have now from 1970 are recordings, but live before a live audience is something that only being there and experiencing the emotion of the moment cannot be duplicated. When I watch a video and see that it's lip synced, I turn that crap off. Wish I could have been there for this one, but I have seen many of the greats live and carry that in my heart. Wonderful!
You really should listen to the three sisters' power trio The Warning - start with their songs "Choke" and "Evolve" - you will not be sorry - they are already becoming the next big thing!
Since you appreciate such quality music from Chicago, I recommend "Free" performed live at Carnegie Hall. (This song isn't in the Tanglewood concert.) Amazing horn-to-rhythm-section interplay, fast pace, and wild vocals by Terry Kath. Recorded in April 1971, nine months after Tanglewood. Link: ruclips.net/video/jZ0YMzlSmRg/видео.html
Not often do bands feature a TROMBONE solo, but such is the over whelming talent in this group. The original 7 of Chicago should have been in the Hall of Fame for decades, it was a travesty it took so long for the recognition after the insipid ballad era of the 80-90s.
Written by keyboardist and lead singer Robert Lamm, this is from Chicago's first album, "Chicago Transit Authority". Chicago was known as Chicago Transit Authority at the time.
Yes & the Chicago Transit Authority sued the music group & they just changed to "Chicago"

The horns are an integral part of the band and they come to mind anytime you hear the word Chicago. So happy to see you appreciate them.
Terry Kath is a beast on guitars!

Nice reaction 😅
I love how the trombone and trumpet improvised with each other. Almost something you would hear from a New Orleans/Dixieland jazz band.
If this had never happened 50 plus years ago and were released today, it would still sound like new musical territory. Very astute point about how complex this was musically and vocally. Great job.
Chicago is an incredible band. They never sound bad at all. Great job, Becks.

South California Purples is a great song from this album, I was a senior in high school when this came out and it blew my mind, lol.
Excellent choice!!

The composition is exquisite.
Chicago is the Classiest Rock band that has ever exisited!!!

I think the word you're looking for is that the performance was organic in its sound and feel.
One of my favorite Chicago songs. My wedding song almost 52 years ago. Still sounds as good now as it did then.
Chicago genra is jazz fusion. I seen them live seven times, I'm 68 years old
Amazing choice! You rock!!! 💋
You took the words right out of my right out of my. How he builds up his range in the vocals very good. Another great pick Rebecca.

Agree 100% about modern groups lip syncing. I would also add that artists today rely too much on Auto-Tune as well. Thanks!
This is obviously not a first time hearing reaction. Still gave you a like.
