Their popularity in Australia is humongous. It's taking on the likes of the Toyota Hilux which is one of the biggest selling vehicles here, with the Ranger not too far behind
Overall I love it. As it's the most versatile vehicle I've ever owned.

I have a 2014 - 2.2 Ranger Limited. Love it. I see the Raptors and Wildtraks and just think "lifestyle Pickups" they never leave the tarmac!

Thanks for the ear to ear grin Vicky - surprised to see a large pickup in the UK - here in Australia the ‘ute’ (OZ for utility) reigns supreme with the top two selling vehicles being utes - the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger in second place - ‘tradies’ love them and now people who dumped their backpacker cars for SUVs are now changing to utes for their family and camping duties - I’ve owned 10 Subarus (WRXs, XT Foresters, 81 wagon) a Nissan Godzilla but now I only drive a Toyota Hilux auto diesel and love the practicality, up high driving position and offroad ability - John in SA

We would consider the Ranger to be a mid-size here in North America. Full-size Pickup would be an F-150 and Large Pickup is anything that is CAFE exempt (over 8,500 lbs GVW or F-250 thru F-450). I will say that the Ranger looks pretty large on UK roads.
@@rich7447 an F150 makes sense on big US highways Rich - two things I’ve noticed from decades of watching US movies is the ‘whaling’ road dynamics of your old Ford Broncos which almost roll over on corners and bends during car pursuits and your ‘yellow’ school buses still look like something from the 40’s - is the US poor? because these old buses don’t look safe for school children? Why not something more progressive and modern with safety features?
@@johnnumbat9782 Anyone who would use an old Ford Bronco for a pursuit (other than OJ) needs their head examining. They aren't built for high speed corners.
There are very few injuries or fatalities in school buses each year. For the most part buses in general are just a big tube with an engine. What do you suggest for a modern alternative? I don't believe that transit buses are any safer and they are twice to several times the price of a school bus.
@@rich7447 yes Rich I guess they’re only stunt drivers in the Broncos - good to know fatalities are low - here in Australia the children use the metro bus services or medium transit passenger buses in regional areas -

Absolutley love the ranger raptor, i was suprised at how well the 2.0 ltr bi turbo engine pulls. Definitely going to be my next motor, and remap to 275bhp.
i wanted to love it too but its auto only. deal breaker right there. and no real need for it as ford had higher powered cars with manuals in the past

Pick-up truck has a solidity and strength that no car can give. Maybe not super practical in a city, but they off-road like it's nothing,

Best car I ever owned (Wildtrak, not Raptor) but sold it for a base model 2 door (which is quicker and handles better) as it suits my uses better.

Just picked up a Sasquatch bronco with the 2.7 a few months ago, over here in the states. I Feel like you would like it the same. I certainly do.
The suspension on this is amazing! And as a daily driver, green laning, camping machine it is the ultimate thing they sell in the U.K… at least till the Gladiator arrives. Sadly, 10 seconds to 60! That’s genuinely glacial!!! Perhaps not for the U.K. market, but it is from a world perspective.

@@DragonXDrei since I wrote this I’ve started to care more about the frugality with current diesel prices. And whilst the 3.0L turbo diesel is nice I’m staring to think EV is where it’s at for the future (and present) of pickups. Thankfully my current Isuzu D-Max is super frugal (and super slow, but that’s less of a problem in 2022).
The 8,500 lb F-450 Crew Cab makes it to 60 in 8 seconds. A little more than a 2L diesel in that though.
Don't let diesel prices get you down. One of mine has a 200 gallon tank and gets 8 mpg. The cost of diesel is offset by not having to get hotel rooms while on the road.
Let's hope you get to Test out a Ram TRX
So many different markets ,many different engine specs ,a twin turbo V6 would be a good choice .would think that 4x4 would give it more range of activity,and towing capabilities .

I can see the rust on your chassis. Really bad. Mine is on the list like 90% of new Ford Ranger Raptor’s to be taken back.
As far as I can gather all Ford Rangers are not classed by the DoT as Dual Purpose Vehicle but are Light Commercials (in excess of 2040 kg unladen weight) and as such have speed limits of 50 MPH on single carriageway roads and 60 on dual carriageways. Same applies to Merc X Class, VW Amarok, new Navaras and new Hiluxes. Pretty unlikely anyone will ever get nicked but worth noting.
Good car. We have one, you can see also some jumps and offroad drive in our videos. Raptor is doing just great and can bring lot of fun to its driver.

I just read an article saying the new double cab ranger in all trim specs, including Raptor has an unladen weight over 2040Kg. It’s speed limited to 50mph on single and 60mph on dual carriageways.
The Ranger tops out at 4,440 lbs/2,014 kg empty. The Ranger Raptor is heavier at 5,238 lbs/2,375 kg empty. So the Ranger would fall under dual purpose vehicle and the Raptor would theoretically not.
This kind of shows how crazy government regulations are since neither the Ranger nor the Raptor are very big (both are mid-size pickup trucks).

I didnt think the raptor was available in the UK? Has this changed or is this a ranger with a bodykit & options added?
Bought a black 3.2 2016 wildtrak with 29k on the clock 2 years ago for 21k and spent 4k on mods best thing I've ever done love driving it .it is suffering with the ranger rust but Ford are sorting it out by doing the chassis treatment, next mod will be 3" SS catback and stage 1 ,the amount of ppl that stop and look at it as I drive passed is nuts ,great drive in the auto going down to Cornwall never feel tired went you've done a long journey, and always look back at her when I walk away from her and my neighbours always take the pi$$ when I wash her and say black vehicles are the worst ,I just reply best looking vehicle in the street tho 🤣

Ford Australia had plans of putting a V8 in the Ranger but those plans have been shelved. Vicki if you really want to test drive a Ute, get hold of a Vauxhall Maloo. I know that they are not in production no more but I'm sure it is a vehicle that you will like. Also it is perfect for doing circle work.

The F150 raptor is a amazing verical i wish i could drive

Was converted by my S.O. 3 years ago, Ranger Limited. Not going back to a station wagon. Too bad pick-ups are being taxed out of existence (in France). Fun fact, there are three kinds of reactions when you own a pick-up: those who love 'em, those who hate 'em, and those who are just jealous. Ranger to be replaced with a Rivian R1T once they hit Europe some time next year.

Yes Vicki but would it make an ideal Camper vehicle with the back of the passengers area removed and a cover added to the pick-up area, that way I for one could get out of the City I am in and select different parking spots where beauty is a must see each and every morning when I wake from slumber in my single divan bed nestled in the back of the pick-up?

Awesome looking, but still surprised it has the Diesel engine and not a higher output version of the 2.3 Ecoboost engine standard in US Rangers like mine (with 270hp and faster 0-60). I love my 2019 Lariat… just wish the adaptive cruise was stop-and-go like some other Fords, instead of disengaging at 10mph. It’s fine most of the time, but in really slow LA traffic, it turns off too much.

Fuel is much more expensive in the UK v USA.
That’s why diesel vehicles are very popular in the UK, particularly for a larger / heavier SUV or Ute like the Raptor.
Much better economy with diesel motor in this type of vehicle.
imagine a 15mpg car vs a 30mpg car when fuel is roughly $8 per gallon. thats why we dont have the 2.3 ecoboost petrol or a v6 petrol and end up with the 2.0 diesel here
@@StephenFogarty2023 Diesels are popular in the US too, but they are very difficult to get through EPA regulations on vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of less than 8,501 lbs. This equates to an F-250, Ram/Chevy/GMC 2500 or higher and they all have displacements in the 6.6 to 6.7L range. My Ram 2500 diesel went to the dealer in September and will be replaced with a F450 diesel. The diesels are the only way that you get 14 mpg highway when towing 26,000 lbs.

Love the Ranger Raptor, only issue for me is that diesel engine could use a bit more power for such a capable suspension. But that's being addressed with the all new gen Ranger about to be released. The next gen Raptor will have a much more powerful gas motor (expect 0-60 in the low-mid 5 secs.) Since the next gen VW Amarok will be based on the new Ranger, I wonder if they will get a "Raptor" version as well, maybe under the "R" name?

I was hooked until ya said "2.0 diesel" I would settle for a 3.2 twin turbo diesel with 300+hp but that NO, what's next a 2.0 4 cylinder ferrari, no no no no that thing is the massive body builder ya see around with very little in his pouch

not heard of a manual gearbox fail and seen plenty of engines with over 200k miles in teh UK which are far harder miles than American miles, and reliability has a different meaning in the UK than the USA also

I worked at the dealer for over ten years and the only issues that really caused problems were the new 2.0 bi turbo failing all the time and the 1.0 eco boost

@@gavinwyllie7855 The F150 Raptor in the UK is a 3.5L V6. We don't get the Ranger Raptor at all. That being said, the standard output F-450 Crew Cab which weighs 8,500 lbs empty can make it to 60 mph in 8 seconds.
