  • On the 19th of June, on the eve of World Refugee Day, In the National Fine Arts Gallery, Artscape organised an event “Why is it important to talk”- a performance and a conversation about speaking and communicating on the topic of refugees and migration.
    Collective Dance. Vol.1"
An artistic, social process based on the aesthetics of participation, conceiving participation not as the activation of the individual spectator, but as the socialisation of art, in which the participant becomes the axis of the artistic process. A repetitive, long duration choreographic score, based on the position of the upraised hands, performed by a group of people specially assembled for the event, echoing the theme of the "Collective Dance" performed at that time.
Idea and choreography by: Agnietė Lisičkinaitė
    Poster designer: Farah Forest
    Sound composition by Emilija Karosaitė
The performance will be realised in communion with people speaking, acting, working in the field of migration, migrants and refugees.
    Musical performance by Kadhim Mazim
Discussion: Renata Kuleš (UNHCR), Basim Mardan, International Cities of Refuge Network (ICORN) Aistė Ulubey (Artscape), Laura Perevičiūtė (Ministry of Social Security and Labor of the Republic of Lithuania), Moderator: Karolis Vyšniauskas (NARA).
During the discussion the main topic was why the World Refugee Day is needed and what is it for? What is the situation of refugees and migration in Lithuania? Why is culture an effective tool for refugee advocacy and integration in the country? What initiatives help draw attention, present good practices at the international level of activity?
World refugee day in Lithuania is organised by Arts agency Artscape, in partnership with UNHCR, funded by European union.
