It's important to note that there is dirt in every single business. Banking, insurance, sports, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, it's everywhere. Not just fight promotions. There is dirt in politics. In law enforcement. In armed forces. In courts. In the corporate world. Not just the fighting organizations.

Yes, and whistle-blowers expose exactly what that dirt is and the public becomes then aware of it, like is the point of this video.
Making a general statement of all the corporate world has dirt says nothing about exactly what that dirt is, you've made a comment wherein you basically shill and excuse the evidence and accusation here as "oh, well, EVERY business does it." which actually ISN'T important to note.
Most aren't here to learn about dirt in banking and pharmaceuticals. This is a kickboxing/combat sports channel.

I got another example. Two months ago I had two of my guys fight in the Bergen classics. And they put a Norwegian champ against a green or new boxer. (some kickboxing) First round ko. And then and a fighter dropped out. So they put my other green boxers against a kickboxing world champ. On this fight my fighter did good and lost two rounds of 10-9. But just shows we as coaches need to look out for our fighters.
We even protested the fights and the promoter just said its the name of the game.
Our guys worked so hard for the fights and decided to continue.

Isn't this obvious though? Bigger knockouts means more PPV, means more fans, means more money. Nobody really cares about fighters health, not until after their career. If you were to watch an all out slug fest between 2 fighters like gatti and ward today, you'd have people absolutely screaming for a rematch, exactly like they did back then. Is it ethical? Obviously not, but no one cares until we get the 60 minute special about CTE and the 50 year old fighter who slurs their words.
It's the fighting business, we are here to watch people hurt each other, you can TRY your best to prevent injury, but really you wouldn't be here if people weren't getting hurt.

I'm too soft I guess, as I don't want to be knocked-out and I don't want to knock someone out. I'd be worried if they wake up or not, if that's the one that ends their career, or is the nail in the coffin for CTE.

Great work Gabriel, I am a great fan of your channel!
I am a 28yo guy that was competitive in taekwondo for 13 years (even faced a olimpic champion once), I've changed to muay thai for almost a year now but I wonder if I should go and compete or not, I was always afraid of injuries and not being able to work properly after a fight, would you consider competing at my age just for fun and testing myself or do you think it is to much risk involved? I destroy pretty much everyone in sparring even going light but I am really afraid of hurting my teeth and shins or to get cut badly and end up with a scar.
I've never tried the pro path because I am an engineer and this world is just too much for a guy that is not 100% comited to it.

I think adding a bonus for finishes would be way better than changing the gloves, but it would in the end cost the promotions more money, so they most likely wouldn’t be interested in going down that road. Really sucks to because I think it would really change the outcomes of fights if dudes knew they could walk away 25k richer with a finish.

Hmmm this has always been a confusing topic. Because statistically speaking, using gloves only increase the amount of brain damage. The same goes for headgear (hence why the olympics no longer use head gear). This is all pretty counter intuitive. You'd think more gear, less brain damage, but the opposite seems to be true
So are there actually stats that show, that smaller gloves create more knockout and more damage. I mean a lighter glove is also a.... Well lighter glove... which automatically means less weight at the end of the lever of the punch
Or maybe once you gets past a certain glove size it no longer protects your hands further, but does decrease damage to the opponent. Because the hypothesis for why bareknuckle causes less brain damage is that people are more carefull, and so there are fewer strikes to the head. So maybe as soon as you put on a 4 ounce glove, all that extra safety is negated

    • @user-he4ef9br7z

promoters also don't care about paying the fighters with the exception of a very few top end professionals. I'm guessing promoters are making massive ratio profits.
One FC does 1 million $ promotions over a few days (4 days?) and still make massive profits.
The problem lies in demand to availability. Everyone is willing to fight for scraps, so all they get is scraps.

The glove thing is pretty skeevy. Re: weigh ins, I’d personally like to see same day weigh ins like at smaller regional competitions. I think it would make the fighters healthier, and honestly perform better- aside from being on a much more level playing field. So what if it means everybody goes up a weight class?
But in defense of “the industry” at large, they kind of have to do the hat trick last minute replacements, catch weights, etc. if they don’t, they’ll go under. If they go under…. It might not be a pleasant truth, but it’s the way it is.
