    Cleaning paintings are for the professional's, you could try a stick with a twist of cotton on the end (like a cotton bud) and use your spit, Spit is neutral and what art restorers use. to test a corner to see how dirty they are

    I am so glad the painting I made I sent you is bringing you joy! The colors do look perfect in that room! I'm glad for it. You were right, the idea behind it was that you are giving all you have, and it might not be much but the Lord will multiply your efforts and provide for you. I have also sent a print to some missionaries, and given a print to a new pastor because I think the Bible story is such an encouragement.

    Just a weird bit of info to think on when you redo your Salle a Manger, if you intend for it to be a room to eat in... Rooms in reds or red tones make your food taste better while blues make you lose your appetite. The blue in the ceiling is beautiful but you may want to stick with the golds or something un-blue 😊
    Saw your plates in a vintage shop a few weeks ago and thought of you guys lol. Funny what sticks. I'm still bringing you the ones I have! Just need to get the whole "getting to France" thing working 😂 In the meantime, I'm SO happy that you are still posting videos to keep us inspired!

    Oh, in regards to the beautiful ceilings, they would probably have been coloured in, when they where originally done. You can find some amazing examples! There is a series on RUclips, with Sarah Beeny, where her and her husband restore an old manor house. And they restored their ceilings, and painted with colours, so that might be worth a look 🙂

    Somewhat late to your party but glad I made it to learn about your vision and stunning chateaux. As for the dining room with the hand painted ceiling of gold, blue and paprika, the walls should be done in that fabulous French blue! It will look perfect with the dark molding. Cleaning paintings is NOT a diy project! I would recommend, that you have them valued, and cleaned by professionals! It is way too easy to ruin paintings, by even the most delicate diy cleaning attempts - and loose alot of the detail and colours - and most of the value.. So I'd suggest you try to find a professional, and wait, till you know, exactly what you are dealing with 🙂

    • @donnagross4638
      @donnagross4638 3 года назад +7

      Excellent advice Rasmus Mogensen. I have been watching "Julian Baugartner Painting Restoration" (Chicago) for quite a while. The work & effort that goes into cleaning an old painting is extensive. Please do not attempt to clean your paintings by yourself. Undoubtedly, your paintings are original to the Chateau which makes them more valuable. Please have a professional look at your paintings and if it is too expensive, just clean one a year to preserve them.

    So, many years ago, I was in charge of the renovation of an estate and 50 room mansion. Having giant doors similar to yours, ours also had similar hardware. Interestingly, our hardware had been imported from France at the turn of the last century. The hardware was also gold plated, and thankfully, in original condition. Oh my goodness! I'm simply falling in love with your chateau. Thank you for the detailed tour this time; it was terrific to see so many features up close. I would certainly pinch myself every day if I woke up in a place like this. It reminds me of the Bible verses about Jesus saying that He will go and prepare a place for us so that where He is, there we may be also. I think of heaven and the wonderful places God is preparing for those who know Him. Somebody, if not on earth, I'll have my chateau, too. :-) I did have a question. I adore all the fireplaces, but do any of them work? I would also love a working fireplace or two (or three or four) in a place of that size. Surely at some point those provided the primary heat, right? So they must have stored a ton of firewood somewhere for easy access. Keep the videos coming. I started late, but I'm watching all your videos in order so I don't miss anything. What a fun ride! Thank you.

    "Grifferaie" doesn't have anything to do with griffins. In French, griffin is 'griffon'. In France, 'griffer' means 'to scratch', which suggests claws. Grifferaie means 'the grove of the claws'. The heraldic ceiling will be a feature of the original château owner's name or the builders taking the name from some local habitat feature, such as an impenetrable grove of hawthorn, spine gorse or some other scratchy plant. It's possible the surrounding woods were once the abode of hawks or eagles. The heraldic creatures on ceiling are eagles, not griffins. Very beautiful.

Pour le tissus de la salle à manger, je ne vais pas me permettre de donner un avis sur le choix de la couleur, mais juste me permettre de rappeler que la pièce me paraît relativement sombre. Lighting a fire in these old fireplaces could cause fires in the chimneys because birds and squirrels build nests in the chimneys. We could often hear baby birds chirping above in our fireplace chimney in a new home we built. Old houses are the same or worse.
      This is a hazard and many a home or chateau lost a wing of the building because of fires.

    Beautiful tour. Thank you. How can there be a fireplace below a window (in the dining room)? Where is the chimney? Is it just for decor?

      It vented to the side and up, but not connected anymore. We have a few fireplaces that employed that strategy.

      @@chateaudelagrifferaie953 Thank you for the explanation. I had no idea that could be done 🤷🏼‍♀️. Also, for that large blank wall in the foyer, have you thought about a period tapestry (If you could find an affordable one)? It might lend a sense of warmth in a cold castle.

    In the cold, put cayenne pepper in your shoes for warmth...in the heat you may put ice in your hat..in a bag or not...

    I don't like this pale green. It's a color when people are sick.
