      if you want to be aggressive and quick scope in close range use the 6x and build your sniper for control. you can be accurate sooner than the lower zoom scopes with the 6x and the control gets rid of the sway when zooming in. i do L96 with the short mag, angled grip and bolt A or C. the other bolts work but add more zoom in sway

    You can snipe on night maps, just take off your night vision. High powered scopes won't have glint anymore allowing you to comfortably sit out further away without killing your eyes picking out pixels, but keeping it stealthy with suppressors and a good amount of cover is still a good idea to do. Enemies almost always have glowy bits that can clue you in to their positions, and you can also find enemies by keeping track of where engagements happen, through gunshots, muzzle flashes, and reading the map.

    As I wrote them down myself, have a written summary:
    Tips for sniping
    * Ranger barrel
    * U R K Grip
    * Any medium scope, best is T R I 4 X
    * Don't use Rem700
    * Focus on L96 for medium ranges and M200 for long ranges (or M200 for everything)
    * Rangefinder and use zeroing
    * Equip bolts as you unlock them
    * Pickaxe preferred over grapple hook, as standing on roofs gives away your position against the sky (silhouetting)
    * MP 443 pistol to start out; Glock as soon as you unlock it
    * Use normal vest for mags
    * Use cover and stay in cover; change position, when you have been spotted
    * Keep moving, unless the second you take a shot
    * No natural cover? Use slotted sandbag cover: stand in the middle and peek left or right to be almost completely out of sight
    If I forget something, feel free to add and I'll edit.

    Extreme long range snipers here's a tip;
    You can place two barricades on top of each other at most, so place down sandbags with the small gaps then a full sandbag on top of it. After you have that you should have half the vertical size of the gap. Next you want to place a concrete barricade about 1,5x to 2x the width of a barricade behind, unbuild once and then you can prone on it and shoot through the peeks. Makes you near impossible to snipe at long ranges.

    As mentioned in the video, the sniping scopes give off a glint that gives away your position.
    So when sniping long range and looking for a target, it’s a good idea to use binoculars rather than the scope to search for a target. You’ll be able to look for potential targets without giving away your position.
    When you find a target, ping them (middle click by default)so you can easily find them again when you switch to the sniper scope.
    The only downside to this is you’ll be switching between the binoculars and the sniper rifle, so there’s a chance you’ll lose your target before you can take the shot.

    I've had a lot of luck with DMRs. Slap a medium scope, canted dot sight, red laser, and various recoil-reduction things and you've got something for all ranges. I've had good kills over 1000m, but the laser also makes it possible to defend in close-quarters. The canted sight lets it hold up in infantry ranges, also. Overall, it's a sweet setup and you can get pretty good damage out of the semis, with minimal downsides.

    One big reason I recommend the Tri 4x scope is the cross hair can be used to judge bullet drop when paired with a rangefinder. Slap that bad boy on your favorite sniper and practice in the shooting range. I found my L96 bullet drop at 1000m lines up exactly with the bottom line on the Tri 4x cross hair, and lands halfway down the line at 500m. Knowing that I can quickly line up shots on the fly without needing to zero my scope.

    best way to spot hands down is the drone. Go to high altitude, find the enemy, middle click. Using drones does not require a line of sight with the enemy or the drone, and at high altitudes drones are completely quiet from the ground. Nine times out of ten enemies do not even notice they have been spotted, and forces them to look up, away from enemies to find the drone. Even then, all of their bullets will miss with out small the drone is, and snipers struggle to lead them with how fast they move.
    pro tip: you can also access drones from past lives as long as they have not been shot down meaning you do not need to create a new drone when you die.

    A little sniper tip for solo players:
    If you're a sniper and you don't care about your squad, then leave the squad as soon as you find a good sniper spot. Otherwise, your squadmates will spawn on you and give away your location with their sniper rifles and glint, or they might start shooting with a machine gun from 300 meters away or do other foolish things. Believe me, it happens all the time.
    Bonus Tip: If you're using a scope with glint to improve visibility or shoot from a greater distance, consider adding a second sight to your weapon, like a Mid Range 3.5x or similar. This way, you can switch quickly between sights and spot enemies whom you wouldn't be able to see without revealing your position with the glint. It's a great way to save yourself the need for binoculars.

Just being in the back lines taking care of enemy snipers and other clueless players is the best way to be an annoyance to the enemy team, and if you stay hidden you can divert major enemy groups from the active fight to search for you wich can win games at times.

    New player here, had a lot of success with the m110. Using a canted red dot makes it semi viable at short range and the mid scope makes it pretty potent at the 200-600m range. Working in sniper teams the frequent hit markers work well at softening up targets for your bolt actioners and two hits with the m110 is often enough for a kill (snipers I've encountered will often take the first hit for that opportune shot back) . Throw in the occasional single headshot kill vs targets not keeping their hp topped off. With a decent sense of the bullet can get the odd kill at 900+m

    I do want to note that even if you are not doing well, if your enemies are aware of you, you are still helping your team very well! When a player is aware that a sniper can kill them at any moment, that puts them at a slight disadvantage because at best you are giving a distraction for your team, and at worst you are giving them another threat to be aware about. It’s sorta like playing spy in tf2. Your presence alone may not be getting any high kill counts, but it can still be helpful for your team.

    Speaking of semi auto sniping: i enjoy m110 with long barrel. It gives 2 hit kills at everybody with every armor except exo one, and when you get used to the recoil, its refire time is much shorter than bolt's one. The main role i fulfill is clearing enemies shooting out of a building or flanking a massive fight, always focusing on 100-400m distances and avoiding duels with snipers. This can be really effective for people like me, who don't fire accurately enough to go for headsots all the time, but requires map knowledge

    This is a personal preference thing, but I use the marksman riffle on my engineer for these set of reasons:
    1. I sit back far from the frontline enough to out gun rifles & SMGs, but not so far for myself to be out gunned by snipers.
    2. You can use the marksman riffle as an unusual deadly hybrid of the binoculars & a gun for spotting & rangefind, which is great for long range tank killing & spotting for myself & teammates.
    3. As I am not an aggressive front line player in this class & gun, I become a long range & semiautomatic equivalent of the M249 saw, I can reliably suppress enemies behind cover, but the ones daft enough to run out will get sawed down by semi automatic fire.
    4. It is a reliable way to cut down more middling bolt action snipers. As between their first missed shot to the second follow up, I can put out 4-5 bullets, & they do not move around to safely reposition themselves.
    Now this is a niche style of play for myself, as other engineers prefer a more close up & personal style, & also this is not the recon classs dedicated to just sniping & superior quality spotting. These are my thoughts.

    A few things:
    If you have a high resolution screen, you don't need to use a long range scope. I use a 2k monitor and can pick out targets beyond 1000m with a prisma just fine.
    When shooting from cover, check all sightlines periodically to make sure no one is looking at you. On maps like frugis with a lot of rooftops, this can help you spot enemy snipers before they see you.
    Try not to keep your sightlines too wide. Anything above 90° total is just asking for someone to shoot you that you didn't see.
    And finally, notice what the people that you're killing are doing. Running in the street, sitting still without checking for enemies, rezzing in the open, etc. Learn from their mistakes so a competent enemy doesn't do the same thing to you :)

    Just so people are aware, the tip about medium range scopes not having glint is no longer true. They have a glint once you reach a certain range.

  • @chrisalejado1396

    may i add one tip... use a bipod and find a rock that is nearly below eye level of your character... when you snipe you don't have to worry about breathing thus minimising movement from your fingers and focus on the enemy to peek or to prone and glint, or to stand and hold their breathe trying to shoot you. You have the upper hand of taking position first and zeroing in to your target.

    I like DMRs in this game, but I see it as it was always meant to be used irl: a support role. You can locate enemies and mid/long range and if not take them out, at least it allows to supress them long enough for your team to reposition - as you said, bullets whizzing next to you means: get moving. And I can put a lot of bullets quite quickly, with some recoil prediction.
    In short range it sucks, and it will suck until they add bayonets xD But with a top red dot and/or canted irons you can at least keep a doorway reasonably secure for about 2 guys storming. Sadly more than that and the mag runs out before that measly damage gets the job done.
    So yeah, I run DMR on engi to basically support my squad in "there's an enemy that we cannot defeat with our usual weapons, deal with it" role :D

    I use semi-auto rifle to being an anti-sniper scout instead pure sniper.
    The drone equipment is useful to find enemy sniper but it is exclusive to squad leader and scout class.
    So, when enemy sniper is better and our sniper is loosing, I send out drone to locate enemy, sneak up to them, and get advantage from semi-auto types against them in short-medium range.

    After 2.2.2 patch, medium scopes now have scope glint but only on snipers (DMRs and any other weapon not affected), but only on 200 meters-800 meters, instead of at all ranges like long scopes
    However the scope glint on all weapons have been reduced so that they no longer show through concealment like bushes and trees, and only visible on a very narrow angle to where you're aiming (like maybe less than 1 degree), instead of the previous 20 degrees.
    also for the Semi Auto snipers, use the M110 since it's a 2 shot kill instead of 3 shot.

    I have some tips want to add.
    Don't use bipod cause it only gives you no sway when ads long-range scope. So you don't have to hold your breath to stable but it only when you prone and it will take a bit of time to settle in. And with medium scope it give nothing because there no sway with it.
    Consider putting some fake glint behind tree or building some sandbags 4 to cover it. The glint sometime can be see through tree so enemy will shoot at it and waste some time or bullets. Put it behind tree so it won't be destroyed easily but still annoy the enemy.
    If you have friends you can team up and shoot from a heli. You can have your friend stable up high in the sky near your spawn and do some nasty long shoot.
    About DMRs. I only find the M110 is the only one worth using. With barrel attachment it can 2 body shot up to 400m. The other gun need 3. People said they find M14 good but if I want o play like that I better of with Scar or Fal. With better fire rate and recoil. And above 200m the time window for you to hit the enemy is too short for landing 2 shots so better just use bolt sniper. Not accounting the velocity is not that good when using long-range.

    Since you asked. If you wanna have success with a DMR, then you should always aim for the head (because that's a one shot kill). Just keep in mind that you are either to far away for a assault rifle to kill you or that you can shoot faster than a sniper that uses bolt action instead of semi auto.
    So basicly, you can shoot further then a assaultier and shoot faster then a sniper.

    You forgot ze drones! =P But seriously, thats my favorite thing to use when playing recon. I must be one of the only people who uses them for actual recon instead of always slapping mines / C4 on. But if you use your drone for spotting with nothing on it, it can actually hover for the entire match it feels like. You just hit 5 and you can right click to toggle on/off your drone view while running around, I think most ppl don't realize you can actually leave the view before the drone dies and keep using it. Also lets you ping bad guys for your team mates. I would spend all day pinging and tracking enemies if you got XP for it lol.

    The M110 Sass isnt bad once you unlock the long barrel, it becomes a 2 shot kill no matter what they are wearing or wear you hit. I find that with a Midrange scope, canted red, and red laser I can use it for mid range and some close range engagements. But even then its best use Scenario is around 100-300 meters, and most rifles are good to about 200... and since Hitting headshots with the snipers is easy kills at those ranges, there isnt really any purpose to them, other than If you want to run engineer and have a long range option.

    Finally, an FPS game that actually makes sniper's severely unpowered at close range! Call of Duty. Nothing is sillier than finally getting within range of a sniper, only to still have a pretty even match up to the secondary weapon they carry without penalty.
    It wasn't explicitly mentioned, but hopefully this game doesn't have "no scope" mechanics like Call of Duty where somehow snipers can jump->scope->shoot around corners at close range. Fuck that shit. And fuck the players / content creators who think those that hate it are looking for hyper-realism. I don't care for hyper realism. I want actual rock-paper-scissors mechanics to hold for snipers -- they get me at long range fine; however, they should be pretty fucked at close range unless they running away from me with some skill and cleverness.

      Jump scoping or jump shooting in general in this game is ridiculously hard and not effective so all good there! It is deterministic though it feels like: if you have a lasersight and shoot the bullet will go there so a good player can at times get the odd jump shot off. They might also with a lasersight beat almost any other 1v1 at close range but only if the kill is deserved (sniper sneaks away and the other player gets complacent and stands still or walks slowly in a line while thinking the sniper is not where they actually are).

    Good and informative video, I will try to implement presented tactics more, since it appears that Im horizonlining too much. I still have to discover a way to constantly land shots while leaning, it's a bit confusing still after all these years. Also this barricade with shooting holes, for me it's always hard to find a place for it so it's actually more usable than strafing. Also about attachments - what's wrong with stubby grip? it gives faster ADS, right? I also learned about which stat means exactly and it turns out that control defines how much passive movement there is while zooming through the scope - especially with larger scopes maximising control can help in aquiring targets far away, where precision is key. One last thing I wanted to add is that I saw another streamer using canted or top red dot over the scope to get more focused visibility but at wider horizontal angle. Quite interesting and Im using it too, but not too much.
