On the point you made about how _DS_ basically set the ground-work for every _Mario Kart_ game after it, I find it interesting that it holds true all the way through to the franchise's logo: starting with _DS,_ the "Mario Kart" name ditched the main series' letter design and replaced it with that sleek "pro-racing" font, and that version of the logo has stuck around all the way through to _8 Deluxe_ and even carried over to _Arcade GP DX_ and _VR_ too.

Technically Mario Kart Double uses the LAN setup, not the Wi-Fi setup. So using 2 to 8 GameCube (each with a Broadband Adapter and a copy of the game) and the required Hub/Cables, you can have up to 5-8 players / each with their own screen (which can lead to 9-16 players for co-op fun). I believer there are tools that do allow the use to make this work online, but these are unofficial, and only work using Dolphin Emulator (ruclips.net/video/dhtMSCMHXjs/видео.html), so I'm not counting that as online support.

Yes, there were only the first 8 tracks and 1 character available, but the fact that anyone owning a DS to play with you was great, especially in those days when almost ALL kids owned a DS! You're bloody brilliant mate, I love your content and comparing the Trauma center organization Cadaeceus to "Caddicarus". And watching your videos makes me smile no matter how awful of a day I've had.
Mariokart DS is my favorite Mariokart of all time and it's not even close. Snaking with Dry Bones feels so liberating even if it's broken. Every so often I play it just to compete with the staff ghosts on time trials. Besides that it has a combination of the best retro and new battle mode tracks and even though I don't really play battle mode on MK8 deluxe I played battle mode to death on DS. Lastly, the mission mode makes this game the most fun singleplayerwise and I don't understand why they never brought it back. The bosses are from Mario 64 DS so to me it always felt like playing an abridged version of that game
Goomba already showed the flaws with mission mode, considering how repetitive it can get. Super Circuit was better, considering the challenge of the star rankings in terms of single player content, not to mention how its different physics allowed for some truly incredible speed running that is well designed in comparison to snaking.

Mario Kart DS online is my favorite game to play thanks to the high level of snaking involved. It adds an extra layer of excitement and satisfaction that I can't find in other racing games. Also thanks for the shootout :)
13:02 the Donut Plains 1 and Koopa Beach 2 Staff Ghosts snake a bit at one point actually, even use some pro strats. That's why they are the most challenging ones
I love this new chapter in your channel, plus this is the Mario kart I have played the most. The one criticism that I have is that, unlike in the super circuit video, drink driving isn’t a focal point of the narrative: 9.5/10
Mate growing up with this game was great, and played it so much that since I was young I'd "accidently" delete the save date from messing around and gladly do it all over again. Then years later after picking it back up and 100% the mission mode, learning that there was a 7th set of missions blew my mind, it was like free DLC in a way lol
Mission mode was such a nice bonus feature it’s a shame that the Mario Kart Wii missions were locked behind real world timed events and are now lost forever.
Mario kart DS awakened the competitive gaming spirit in me. My first time online, getting absolutely bodied by everybody snaking time and time again. I thought it was cheating at first, but then I looked online and discovered snaking. I made it my goal to master this dark art. I practiced day after day, online match after online match. I became one of the best snakes in my town I daresay. Then it got patched out in Mario kart 7.
The cherry on top of this game to me that everyone forgets to mention was the Download and Play. I used to play this so much with other kids in school who didn't have the game
I loved the bumping mechanic in this game. You could run into someone and depending on your weight, you'd push them a decent amount. Then if you had the mushroom they could get thrown off the track (my favorite spot was the wall at the start of the Luigi's Mansion stage so they had to turn and drive back on the track).
I have to say I'm pretty good at snaking myself. I'll snake here, snake there, snake in the shower, snake outside, everywhere my snaking shines. Good to see someone bring light to the fine art of snaking. I hope the next Mario Kart review has the evolved form of Snaking - Mushroom Stamping. Also great video, Lonely Goomba really is _the_ hidden gem of game review channels. Infinitely more polished and entertaining than a ton of other larger but soulless content creators.
That is just a complicated exercise to give glow-ups to old tracks while still staying accurate to the original. SNES Bowser Castle 3 in MK8DX is the perfect example of how to do that. You have a much better atmosphere and a layout that’s more complex and uses the new features that appeared since SMK, while still being faithful to the original version.
Ah, Mario Kart DS. Where I used to sit by the window and leech the neighbor's Wi-fi cause we couldn't afford anything but dial-up internet. I remember blistering my thumbs doing snaking too...good times. One thing I remember is having a 1-star rank for the longest time and absolutely dunking on a 3-star racer once, which gave me the drive to be like "if they can achieve 3 stars so can I" and then I grinded to get it myself to show off online, pretty sure this was only months before the service shut down. Very well done on getting 3 stars yourself, it's a lot harder to do in this game and Wii [and GBA, though it's the one game I never played] than in 7 and 8. Really wish they didn't make the good ranks so easy to get in the newer games, and also no longer having it show up anywhere in the stats screen or online, kinda feels pointless for 3 stars now.
One thing not mentioned here is the reason Mario Kart DS was THE game to have if you were in any sort of after-school program: 8-person DS Download Play. You only even needed one cartridge-sure, playing without locked you into Shy Guy in a standard kart, but getting to be an otherwise unplayable character was pretty sweet in its own right. When you managed to get enough friends for 6+ player races, all of you in the same room...that's an experience I'd give anything for Nintendo to recreate.
I remember playing this at school. We used DS download play so people without the game could join. The people without game card are shy guys in different colors, a character that people with the game card can't play as. This severely limited track selection, as download play only allowed tracks from the first 2 cups.
I’m not sure if you’re one for suggestions, but it would be pretty funny to see a video on Plants vs. Zombies for the DS. You might find a few long lost relatives as well; the game includes plenty of your mushroom brethren!
Man, I remember playing this when I was a kid, was more into Mission Mode than anything else! Got to Chief Chilly, but never knew of the Wiggler Boss, really wish I could replay this, but I've lost the game sadly...
This game is so awesome. I nearly broke my right bumper trigger and got so many handcramps from nonstop snaking just to beat my donut plains time trial record by 20 milliseconds!

I've been watching this channel for years, and the content is always top notch quality! This goomba is so funny! Keep it up!!
Mario Kart DS online is my favorite game to play thanks to the high level of snaking involved. It adds an extra layer of excitement and satisfaction that I can't find in other racing games. Also thanks for the shootout :)
It feels nice to see how far you have come iv been watching scince your first kirby video and u only gotten better
13:02 the Donut Plains 1 and Koopa Beach 2 Staff Ghosts snake a bit at one point actually, even use some pro strats. That's why they are the most challenging ones
I love this new chapter in your channel, plus this is the Mario kart I have played the most. The one criticism that I have is that, unlike in the super circuit video, drink driving isn’t a focal point of the narrative: 9.5/10
the video's fully captioned? goomba, you do so much for us and i think you should get some more appreciation
It is indeed
14:38 What if I told you, you can dodge a blue shell just by releasing a mini-turbo and jumping right as it lands?
Tbh I could never get it to work. Timing must be very strict
Your theme song will rattle around in my head until the day I die. It's just so catch lol
I forgot you could make your own Emblem, I think mine was some random trash
I remember mine being oddly decent pixelart of something crude that I wasted hours of my life on. Good times
Mine was a Tails symbol from Sonic.
*my sudden urge as a pro to ask you about your times*
Nice, welcome to the snaking club
I used to play this a lot when I was younger visiting my grandpa at the hospital while the grown ups were talking. It was a good escape

8dx/tour sky garden in a nutshell
I think you’ve recommended it a few times. I might give it a look for a shorter video. Just not really sure if it’ll have enough to talk about
@@TheLonelyGoomba Guess I forgot the first time, my bad. Glad you’re hanging in there Lonely, I appreciate you’re dedication.
Man, I remember playing this when I was a kid, was more into Mission Mode than anything else! Got to Chief Chilly, but never knew of the Wiggler Boss, really wish I could replay this, but I've lost the game sadly...
0:23 Well... Except for that backwards "L" on Luigi's cap.
I think this was one of my first video games I ever played honestly. I remember playing this game past my bed time a lot.
i love seeing the coverage of the handheld mario karts! keep it up
All i learned from this video is, a goomba spitting continuous faxs left and right, the game is truly a nostalgia ride. have a nice day and take care
This game is so awesome. I nearly broke my right bumper trigger and got so many handcramps from nonstop snaking just to beat my donut plains time trial record by 20 milliseconds!
One of my favorite childhood RUclipsrs covering one of my favorite childhood games! Yes!
I’m loving the amount of quality content coming lately 👍
Always a good day when a new Lonely Goomba vid comes on ^^
