- Want to solo over Pink Floyd's "Breathe"? Well, let's take a look at how we can do that using the Dorian scale, but more importantly, by outlining the chord changes.

I really enjoyed this. This touches upon your Oct 7th 2020 stream "David Gilmour & The Dorian Scale" which was an epiphany for me. Seeing Dorian as an extension of the minor pentatonic scale with the added 2nd and 6th; by adding two notes you're somewhere magical. Then throw in the 5b blue note for good measure. That led me to purchase a dozen of your courses including the 3 mentioned in this lesson. Now I understand why the C# is the diminished chord of E Dorian, and the reason why it is a i - IV vamp.. Thank you...
Brother, we almost share the same name. Are you Greek?

These videos are golden
Thanks!
I have the courses that Jeff mentions - they’re great!
Thank you!
That tone is insane! Thanks Jeff. 👍
Hey! Thanks!
Even though this is a bit over my noob head, I could sit and listen (watch) you play and talk about this stuff all day. Thanks Jeff! 🎸🔥
You CAN do this. Start easy, play E minor pentatonic and add the A-note on one place in that box. Play that note over the A-chord. Play around with that until you get the hang of it. Find another A-note on the neck and try to target that one. Then start to mix it up. Repeat the same process for C#. Do this for a couple of minutes a day over several weeks and you’ll notice a huge difference. You will also have improved your ear tremendously… Playing the changes = hearing the changes!
Bill! I concur with what Jeroen said! One step at a time. Thank you Jeroen.
Excellent teaching from a master-teacher! Thanks Jeff! You continue to inspire!
My older brother also introduced me to Pink Floyd - DSOTM and WYWH....He had original releases of the LPs back in the day. Great video, thank you.
Thanks Jeff! The tone and sound is amazing!.
Thanks Vic!
This makes me appreciate Pink Floyd even more. If that's possible. Thanks.

That was a fun one!
🙌🏻🙌🏻
This is the kind of lesson I will always come back to. Caught up with you with the Brooklyn lockdown series, and since purchased severel of your Truefire courses. Highly recommended.
Cheers Jeff. Another great lesson.
Thank you!
As much as I like Pink Floyd, it really doesn't matter what it is that you're playing it really sounds great man your amplifier sound and guitar tone is a great match, good stuff.
Thanks Ron! I really appreciate that. 🙏🏻
Thank you, Jeff 🙏
Things seem to be falling into place these days- just more pieces to the puzzle.
That Strat sounds magical!
Thanks!!
Lots of ideas to work with. Fabulous tone as usual which us wanna be’s recognize we need to work on. Great stuff and thanks for taking the time to share this..
Thank you and you are welcome!

Great sound. Beautiful tone.

Great lesson Jeff, as you say, hard work is required but it's worth it, you made me laugh when you said why are any of us here 😂
Ha! Thanks you!
Great Video, I love the Dorian sound. More please!!
Thanks! More on the way!
This is really incredible content, and that intro jam was so dope. Awesome playing.
Thank you!
Lovely stuff with just a couple of chords. Thanks Jeff!
Thanks Phil!
Awesome vid Jeff! You did a similar video for ‘Since I’ve Been Loving You’ a while back and I’d love to see more of this type of stuff that we can purchase on Truefire or elsewhere.
Thanks! Stay tuned for more here and elsewhere!
would love to see this style vid with soloing over other dark side tunes.
Good idea!!
Is the trick here is combing relative G scale with E pentatonic minor, or A Dorian over E natural minor?
Also all these half steps fit in a noodle B-C-C# and F#-G-G# perhaps as blues bends, slides or trills.
it is still a mindfeck, but perhaps it is jazz; there is more to discover here, like A B C C# D E all fitting somewhere; I'm thinking it's more important to isolate what notes must be avoided, just D# F (G# is a blues trill).
No idea how to harness this knowledge, except sparingly - otherwise any noodle in E sounds like Edge vs Paverotti on Miss Sarajevo.
Dorian is simply the best because it’s a Dorian jam over the I and a mixolydian jam over the IV. Are there two better scales than those? I love nailing those dominant 7 tones over the IV. Not to mention both chords share two notes if you’re ever lost.
Good stuff Richard!
Great playing and I enjoy your lessons. But if I didn’t know what the Dorian mode was before I don’t think I could’ve figured it out from this lesson. I was taught that the Dorian mode is the major scale one step below the root you’re playing. In other words, E Dorian is a D major scale played from E to E. I can easily do this on piano but have difficulty with this on guitar. If you could have a lesson or refer me to a lesson that shows the formula or pattern for the Dorian on guitar it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks! I’d definitely suggest some of Rick Beato’s videos. He has a few on Dorian specifically. I hope that helps!
