100%. She's had multiple therapists and food therapists, but they're all incorrect or wrong according to her. There's definitely a mental issue regarding food that she doesn't want to confront, not just her being "lazy" like some people are suggesting.

If you watch 1,000 pound sisters or 1,000 pound Best Friends or something like that on TLC they have the same requirements. They had/have to lose so weight before they can have surgery. Amber’s track record for losing weight is not good. She probably thought she could just set up the appointment & have the surgery! That’s not how it’s done!
The reason as to why she can't get her weight loss surgery sort of makes sense. I'm pretty sure they do the same things to substance users who need a new kidney, they need to make sure that they are clean for at least a year, or else it would be like "wasting resources." I guess it's also an incentive to get them to be healthy independently because the surgery can only help with so much. If the person isn’t motivated to be healthy on her own, then nothing can guarantee she'll be healthy after the surgery.
And she could literally die if she does binge before she heals after the surgery. And the surgery alone isn’t enough for weight loss, she needs to put in the work. I think it makes perfect sense.

But doctors definitely want to see consistent life style changes before performing surgery.
Hey Dee, just wanted to let you know about your end comment, the 1 year thing IS cap, but not entirely, i had the weight loss surgery, even after the procedure is done you CAN still gain weight if you force yourself to, as a serial binge eater it would be pointless for them to do the surgery on her if she is going to immediately reverse it, on top of that your stomach can quite literally POP if you force it to eat more than it can hold; her getting the surgery in her current state would be bad for her health when she isnt even truly comitted. Also the first 2 months after the surgery would be hell for someone like her.

Yeah I feel like most holidays are so few and far between that it's ok to stop counting calories on them. One bad day every once in a while won't matter as long as you get back to eating right the next day. I definitely would feel miserable if I couldn't pig out a bit on my birthday or Christmas.
