Thats true, doner kebab originates from the ottoman empire, and it was inspired from middle eastern food, but gyros was originally eaten in Greece since the ancient times and has changed a lot over the years. (my point is doner originates in Turkey and gyros in Greece)

In turkey gyros isnt made from pork as is in Greece. Its made of chicken and in skewers they put minced beef. On the other hand in Greece we have also chicken gyros but also we make lamb skewers chicken skewers even larger pieces of pork are stuffed in larger pitas and of course sold more expensive than plain pita skewers. Lately a store makes pita with small fishes in it like the UK (Atherina fish gavros fish and others).

So they all pick (the full joke is funnier going into details of each nation etc) and Sunday comes, God sits to rest satisfied with what he accomplished until he heard some people outside shouting to open up and it's the Greeks saying they didn't wanna wait in line at first and then messed up the dates etc etc but God really had nowhere to put them, so because he liked them he gave them his favorite part of the world he had kept for himself

To get to Alexandros the great in fact he was greek/hellenic. His mother was from southern epiros, the molossians and his father from argos ruling in makedonia, a name that is also greek meaning long refering to the rhodesian mointain chain. Makedonia under the romans was made bigger to the north so that the slawic/illyrothrakian people of north macedonia were called vardarska and skopje and later Macedonia by the bulgarians because after yugoslawia fell apart they thought: lets get a region called macedonia. After macedonia gained independence they had to change there flag with the sun of vergina (greek symbol) and name due to the prespa agreement where the traitor tsipras sold the name north Makedonia just like malakies watermelons. In a nutshell Alexandros( how he really was named) was a Hellene or greek as we now say due to the romans.

Well, I am a Greek born permanent resident of its capital, Athens, or Athina (Pronounced Atheena). To the best of my knowledge, Gyros (Pronounced Yeeros) is an adaptation of the middle eastern dish called shawarma, or doner kebab. Can't really tell you which country it originated from though. The flatbread we use is not found anywhere else and is thicker and fluffier than its Turkish counterpart. The Turkish use lamb or chicken, while we Greeks use pork or chicken. Prevalent toppings of our dish are tomatoes, onion, tzatziki, parsley, fries, lettuce and mayo-mustard sauce. Just don't expect to find all of those in a single example, as some are never combined together. As to which is best, it's up to anyone's personal preferences, but I have had Turkish several times and enjoyed it as much as our local style.

    • @MatthewP-Gr

Turks don't eat pork. Pork gyros can be found only in Greece. It's not allowed to muslim people to eat pork. Turkish doner is made from lamb and/or calf. Greek gyros is from pork and chicken gyros is something that you can find the last 40-45 years and not before. Gyros and doner are two different type of food products and not the same. Both of them uniq.

    • @TheofilosMouratidis
      @TheofilosMouratidis 5 месяцев назад

Your whole comment is pure confusion. Muslims don't eat pork, their donner is either from lamb or chicken, and Gyros is made from either pork or chicken. There is no Gyros with lamb (at least in Greece), it started as a lamb doner imported from Germany, but due to health inspections they found people were putting even newspaper in the doner to cut costs, so they banned it and souvlatzidika shops in Greece invented gyros after that.

      THAT's confusing and false.
You also said that " started as a lamb doner imported from Germany". LOL Also confusing and false...
Gyros and doner are 2 different products. The coocking process is the same. Doner came to Greece in 1922 with Greeks that came from western Turkey. (not from Germany!!!!!) During the dictatorship in Greece a law forbidded the use of minced meat in doner (1967) . It was then when the pork gyros replaced the doner. Chicken gyros came at early''s 80s as an option for people who don't eat pork.

the biggest micoception about greece is the asumption that greece was small and the greek was just a small population similar to today, which is totally wrong.
greek had 10 fold population in ancient times and was reduced over the millenias slowly but steadily into the todays numbers through conquests and invasions from east and west which reduced the population through converting to different religions and assimilation .
greek lived in large numbers from france to italy to greece to anatolia to asia to africa.
after the greek world was assimilated into the roman empire the greek ethnic group became the biggest and dominant ethnic group in the roman empire and in 4th century it became pretty much the ruling party of the roman empire and in 6th century switched entirely the official language of the roman empire from latin to greek.
today most former greek live in turkey with about aprox 20 million islamized of greek descend and palestine south italy and partly egypt.
the reason why so many greek lost or forgot their ethnic roots is because of the concept in the middleages to define a nation by its religion and not by their ethnic group.
to be a greek u had to be roman and u could be only roman if u was christian, it was the defining factor after the islamic conquests.
therefore many greek who was occupied by islam had to chose either hardships and slavery due to their christian beliefs or switch to the new power and like most ppl in the world do even toay most chose the easy way.
large numbers in todays arab nations are of greek descend and not arabs.

A NOTE ABOUT THE POWER OF THE HELLENIC LANGUAGE.
    1957
I always wished to address this Assembly in Greek, but realized that it would have been indeed "Greek" to all present in this room. I found out, however, that I could make my address in Greek which would still be English to everybody. With your permission, Mr. Chairman, I shall do it now, using with the exception of articles and prepositions, only Greek words.
Kyrie, I eulogize the archons of the Panethnic Numismatic Thesaurus and the Ecumenical Trapeza for the orthodoxy of their axioms, methods and policies, although there is an episode of cacophony of the Trapeza with Hellas. With enthusiasm we dialogue and synagonize at the synods of our didymous organizations in which polymorphous economic ideas and dogmas are analyzed and synthesized. Our critical problems such as the numismatic plethora generate some agony and melancholy. This phenomenon is characteristic of our epoch. But, to my thesis, we have the dynamism to program therapeutic practices as a prophylaxis from chaos and catastrophe. In parallel, a Panethnic unhypocritical economic synergy and harmonization in a democratic climate is basic. I apologize for my eccentric monologue. I emphasize my euharistia to you, Kyrie to the eugenic and generous American Ethnos and to the organizers and protagonists of his Amphictyony and the gastronomic symposia.
    1959
Kyrie, it is Zeus' anathema on our epoch for the dynamism of our economies and the heresy of our economic methods and policies that we should agonize the Scylla of numismatic plethora and the Charybdis of economic anaemia. It is not my idiosyncrasy to be ironic or sarcastic, but my diagnosis would be that politicians are rather cryptoplethorists. Although they emphatically stigmatize numismatic plethora, they energize it through their tactics and practices. Our policies have to be based more on economic and less on political criteria. Our gnomon has to be a metron between political, strategic and philanthropic scopes. Political magic has always been anti-economic. In an epoch characterized by monopolies, oligopolies, monopsonies, monopolistic antagonism and polymorphous inelasticities, our policies have to be more orthological. But this should not be metamorphosed into plethorophobia, which is endemic among academic economists. Numismatic symmetry should not hyper-antagonize economic acme. A greater harmonization between the practices of the economic and numismatic archons is basic. Parallel to this, we have to synchronize and harmonize more and more our economic and numismatic policies panethnically. These scopes are more practicable now, when the prognostics of the political and economic barometer are halcyonic. The history of our didymus organizations in this sphere has been didactic and their gnostic practices will always be a tonic to the polyonymous and idiomorphous ethnical economies. The genesis of the programmed organization will dynamize these policies. Therefore, I sympathize, although not without criticism on one or two themes, with the apostles and the hierarchy of our organs in their zeal to program orthodox economic and numismatic policies, although I have some logomachy with them. I apologize for having tyrannized you with my Hellenic phraseology. In my epilogue, I emphasize my eulogy to the philoxenous autochthons of this cosmopolitan metropolis and my encomium to you, Kyrie, and the stenographers.

Great video but the economic data on this is very outdated. This was the case over 10 years ago. Now Greece is the economic miracle of Europe

Wth economic miracle?!?!?!?!?! You mean they are slowly recovering from the debt crisis, and their gdp is increasing? Also their debt to gdp ratio has decreased slightly a few years to this day, but still has a long way of improvement.

@Heyurgirlistotallyrandom We mean fastest growing economy in Europe with the biggest growth percentage. Unemployment rate to be the lowest in the last 20 years. Great interest for foreign investment in different sectors. The debt is being repaid way ahead of its deadlines etc etc... Greece is doing very well

Philosophers prepared the way for Christianity. The Gospel was written in Greek and spread throughout the world. Then the Greeks proceeded to enlighten the Slavs as well. The Greek language, however, has a "language" from the Fiery Tongues of Pentecost! The doctrine of our faith no language can render. That is why God saved and the Old Testament was translated by the Septuagint into the Greek language and the Gospel was written in the Greek language...

Gyros is similar with Turkish kebab i think they call it. But is not the same i think Turkish people prefer food more spicy.

Actually. Normally people assume like me, that young people have no clue. And it struck me. What I knew when I was 16. basicly the same as youth today. If you have no interest, in a subject you dont bother. Even with internet. But if you wish to learn .. alot easier. And to theese young boys. USA was buldt on Hellas just as much as Rome
