I attended this game when I was in 9th-10th grade as a “Burlsworth Kid” from Quitman, AR. We were seated in the end zone by the tunnel. You had to be there to hear how loud that crowd was. I think it holds the stadium record for most attendance to a Razorback game, I think there was 74,000+ people there. I’ll never forget that day. Do it the Burls way! Woo Pig Sooie!
I was at a beach wedding in Florida while the ending of this game was taking place and there were about 6 or 7 of us that kept running back and forth from the beach to the bar where the game was on TV. I think the groom even stopped on the was to the beach to watch.
Actually, it would be the next year, 2011, that Bama, LSU, and Arkansas finished 1,2, and 3 in the country. But you were right, that is pretty impressive, regardless of the year, that 3 teams from the same division finished as the top three teams in the country. One evident thing about this season was that Bama didn't have a playmaker in space, which was evident in the South Carolina game that they lost. McElroy never really utilized the long ball to stretch the field with Julio. Bama played in a phone booth back then, certainly not out in space like now a days.
Bama wasn't one of the best teams this season. Nick had not built depth at this point. 10 wins this season was overachieving for Bama. Bama was maybe the 10th best team.
After Losing Previous Year's National Title Team to the NFL and Graduation after going through NCAA Sanctions and a Near Death Penalty in the Early 2000's.
Arkansas under Bobby Petrino had a great 4 year run (2008-11).. The problem was they ran into Alabama, Auburn & LSU which derailed its SEC & Nat'l title dreams.
That's the SEC for you. And all of those teams just happened to be in the West. But Arkansas looked fairly unstoppable for a lot of this game, and very good the next year, as well, against possibly the best defense 'Bama ever fielded. Hope Beliema can bring these guys back from the dead. 0-9 in the SEC can't happen again for them.
marktastic86 if auburn can go from worst to first then arkansas can do the same. Beilema doesn't have his Wisconsin style of players. If he get those recruits to come there then the SEC West will be tough from top to bottom.
blind poet38 Lets be honest, the ONLY reason Bielema walked into a football program with that Football Operations Center, new locker room, the whole "master plan", was Petrino. In fact, without all that I doubt Bielema even walks through that door at all. Bielema didn't make Arkansas a top 8 most profitable football program, Petrino did. And what do ya know, Petrino gone and Arkansas has done nothing but fall in that ranking. Hmmm...

Actually, under Petrino Arkansas beat Auburn 2008, 2009, and 2011. LSU and Alabama were a problem though.
