This scene is so brilliantly written and acted, specially by Maggie, the way her expression changes when Harold tell her he brought her flours is just priceless.
10 years later and this movie is still my favorite by far. I can't really explain it, but after any traumatic even in my life, I use this movie to help me overcome fears and statistical odds of failure. I guess nothing pulls at my heartstrings harder than this.
one of the best modern romance movies bc its hidden inside what you think is a sub par comedy at first. the whole wild world scene makes anyone who isn't a sociopath well up a bit. you realize he bought the guitar and was learning the song for her but at first scared to play it because he didn't know it well enough. then he says f.u. to the stuck up perfectionist he is and goes all in. makes you think of the one time you went all in for 'the one' in your life and the rest was history, as they say.
What I don't understand is how him playing a simple 2 chord song got her all horny. Whole Wide World is just an F and a Bb, or E and A with a capo on the first fret.
Will Ferrell did a great job here! I mean the lines he's given could so EASILY come off creepy. "i want you" could have came off weird but the he played it with such sensitivity its actually kinda sweet :)
I don’t really care for Maggie Gyllenhaal, but the moment she realizes how sweet the gesture of the Flours is and she flutters her eyes... that is some brilliant acting there. It felt very sincere as if she was forced to let her guard down by his thoughtfulness. Not into cheesy roll coms, but this one is so sincere and so simple. What a clever movie and fantastic interpretation of the simplicity of love.
Not sure why I just randomly thought to search this scene, but I just reminded myself why this is one of my absolute favourite movie scenes of all time.
I mean, I remember this film because of the line about him living in a tragedy and for me I used to feel like it was kinda relatable. But once I watch that scene I remember the actual plot to the movie and why he said it. And I just remember how good the movie is 😁
Awwwwe, you cut out the best bit! "So are these labelled, or...?" "No, I just remember which one's which." "Oh yeah? So what's that one, then?" "Barley." "...And that one?" "I don't remember." Or something like that? It's not in the script, which means they probably ad-libbed that, which is nine kinds of adorable 💜
Agreed ... this movie has made me fall in love with Maggie Gyllenhaal ... amazing actress, so sweet and funny. Great chemistry between these two! This is probably my favorite rom com of all time
I love this movie. I used to re-watch it so many times, and I remember the big green apple on the dvd lol. Will Ferrel was my childhood, between Elf, Anchorman, Talladega Nights, and then this flick, such a departure but so refreshing. It's like Midnight in Paris.
I got this movie from the discount section of the supermarket a few years ago and I really can’t accept that Will didn’t get an Oscar nomination at least for this. It’s an epic movie and more than just your standard romantic comedy. I dunno about you guys, but for me, a really good movie is when you feel lost within it and forget you’re anywhere else. Almost like a fly on the wall. Top 10 all day long
Screw head vs heart. I love this scene. Never thought Will to be a good dramatic actor but this and Everything Must Go showcased another side to his talent.
These Romantic scenes, the kiss were the highlight of the movie and they are credit goes to Maggie and Will for underplaying himself. Maggie after this movie is an actress to look for and even today I look for these scenes of her.
this has to be the best way to purpose.. it might be inappropriate in someones books somewhere .. but it makes seance to me .. and it is beautiful . thanks for reading ..
I met Will and Maggie during this scene in 2006, it was filmed on my block of Thomas Street in Ukrainian Village, Chicago. I was 11 at the time and Will was very nice. Sadly I HAD NO IDEA who Maggie was as I was a kid..But I knew Will from ELF. His trailer was parked next to the hospital on Thomas and Hoyne st. Got Wills autograph and he wrote "Bes Wishes" in stead of best 😅 I lost the autograph all these years later, it was in my spiral notebook from middle school. That house that they filmed this scene in is either 2126 or 2128? I was 2118 so I wasn't far. I walked this block almost everyday in 05/06. Great times and memories. And great movie
PoleVaultMyAnus Now now, no need to insult. lol Actually, I had just assumed they were flower seeds in packaged potting soil, for outdoor garden planting. But in all seriousness, Palin is just the worst.

+PoleVaultMyAnus it's funny, but too mean. No, it's still funny.
That's not what he said, He said "I've been odd and I know I've been odd". He's simply stating that he's been odd and he recognizes that fact. I own a copy of the official script and looked it up. Awed is not the word that was used or intended to be used.
@@michaelneumann3048 That being said, it's not outside the realm of possibility that the pun was, in fact, intentional, particularly so given the context of the preceding flour/flowers pun. It's certainly a "writerly" pun to make -- especially in light of the narrative in which Harold exists.
@@michaelneumann3048 Oh, do you own "an official copy of the script"? Do ya, now? You went out and bought the original production transcript, just so you could look up this exact scene on youtube and tell people in the comments how wrong they are? My my, that's quite the coincidence!
there is a girl i work with that i find amazing , we both like each other but i have been a shy person my entire life, this movie has been an inspiration to me , i only wish i could build up the courage like harold does to tell this amazing person i want her, my intentions are truly honourable too
Must be a little young yet. You dont get anywhere by not doing anything, just get over yourself and be a man about it. Women appreciate a man who has the guts to do exactly what you want to do. Just dont lay it on too thick right away.
Admittedly, I was fooled by this too at first. I thought he was bringing her "flowers" but then after actually paying closer attention to what he was holding, it wasn't the plants but bags of flour. I guess it kind of made sense given that she worked in a bakery.
I have a thing for this woman that frequents an establishment that I do as well, and she's also kind of an anarchist. I told her that I think she's great and gave her my number and said that we should be friends, and it seems that she is receptive to the idea, but I'm in agony waiting for her to text me. Valentines day is coming up, I'm going to give her flours, not because she bakes ( I don't really know ), but because she knows I like movie quotes. I hope she is familiar with this scene.
I love it how i can find this scene, which is my favorite from this movie. Why can't i find that scene from Dodgeball: A True Underdog Sport. Where Owen and Fran get together.
You can literally hear the exact moment her heart melts
This scene is so brilliantly written and acted, specially by Maggie, the way her expression changes when Harold tell her he brought her flours is just priceless.
They are flower seeds not flours
This scene emotes me every damn time. (Sentence doesn't make sense but you know what I mean)

It's so underrated!!
I sobbed out loud at the bus scene.
The part where he plays wreckless Eric on the guitar is the best
That pun is amazing.
it took me like 4 years to get it but fuck yeah
It’s so genius
That's when you know he's in...
Right? 😂
The best Will Farrell movie by far. Evidence that he could be a serious actor if he'd take off the clown suit more often.
+Andres Benatar Figure of speech. He's capable of doing more substantial work if he'd occasionally get away from such relentlessly goofy movies.
I agree Shawn Hall. He should make more films like this one and Everything Must Go and less films like Semi-Pro and Zoolander 2.
The clown suit is so funny tho.

Will Ferrell did a great job here! I mean the lines he's given could so EASILY come off creepy.

and also I'm very ashamed that I didn't realize it was flours. lol. thought he gave her bulbs. it works either way but flours is perfect.
