Lyrics:
Chorus:
Bask, ye samplers, bask in the light
Space is dark, but the star is bright
Bask in the heat of the distant sun
It's gonna get hotter before we're done
So bask in the heat of the sun, boys
Bask in the heat of the sun!
We mine the neutron matter from the heart of a living star
Remotes can't pass magnetic fields, machines can't go that far
So we must ply our samplers to the edge of the stellar core
And there release the drone ships to collect our neutron ore
(Chorus)
A starship's drive is a neutron drive, and it pushes the speed of light
The starships fly to the distant stars, we fly to the star in sight
From cool and green to heat obscene we cross in the work we do
We do it well and we brave this hell for the sake of the starship crew
(Chorus)
A million miles to the core and back, in the heat of the fusion glow
All mankind thrives on the lives we lead, but only the samplers go
If not for the neutrons we return, the starships could not run
And so we mine like our fathers mined, and bask in the heat of the sun
(Chorus)
Favorite song of the entire album, since it just shows that humanity is crazy enough to send people in small pods to the center of a sun just for a more efficient fuel source.
Best song on the album easily
whole tape is great-pilot's eyes is a real show of a man's desire to help others despite his disability-of course 9-5 and you can build a mainframe are funny..all his stuff is great.
Minor corrections to the lyrics:
A million miles to the core and back, in the heat of the fusion glow
All mankind thrives on the lives we -need- _lead_ , but only the samplers go
If not for the neutrons we return, the starships could not run
And so we mine like our fathers mined, and bask in the -heat- _need_ of the sun
The first correction is self-explanatory.
All mankind thrives on the lives they lead.
The second is Bill Sutton switching up the chorus lyrics to change the meaning.
The miners are basking in the fact that humanity NEEDS what they mine from the sun.
(They're probably also basking in the glory and profits too...)
Hm, you're probably right on the first one, but I think the second is a stretch.
@@SongsfromtheStars listening closely to the need bs heat line, he does actually seem to ding need and nit heat, compared to all the nether times the change is pretty noticeable
@@DargonVessle Agree it's definitely bask in the need
@@DargonVessle
Yeah, that's what I heard too.
When he repeats the chorus line as part of the final verse, it sounds like he changed heat to need.
A million miles to the core and back, in the heat of the fusion glow
All mankind thrives on the lives we lead, but only the samplers go
If not for the neutrons we return, the starships could not run
And so we mine like our fathers mined, and bask in the NEED of the sun.
Bask Ye Samplers!!!
Hi-res version!. At last!
