    Great video. Thanks! So you suggest more open/faster HSR and LSR on a emtb with fox 38? I’m 194lbs fully kitted.

      I do. If you use the bracketing system of suspension setup you can dial it in. Most people are under damping their setup so it feels parking lot good, and it hurts on trail performance.

      @@LoamRoamer I found it a bit harsh at +10 from open on LSR. I opened it up to +6 and it’s much more plush.

    I love coil setup, the consistency, less stiction, but also not having to adjust pressure, the pressure changes alot and fast where I live in the winter. But I will see how the Era does, first time on two air chambers. But I was told coil version is coming. But that fork has much less sticktion that fox with Vorsprung Smashpot, seems like the bushing tech is great, mabye the seals too, but smooth for sure. Seems stiffer to when doing fakies, and less stiction when compressing under load like a stoppies and fakie, but only had few hours on it, I will see how it performs long term.

    Love coil forks, still enjoy riding my 15-year-old enduro cause it uses a coil VAN fork. Recently got a ZEB for my new build and was told by the bike shop that this is an amazing conversion. Was going back and forth on the added weight but this video convinced me that installing a smashpot is the way to go. btw, i'm 220lbs+ ktitted and don't do jumps, but enjoy the gnarr.

    Cheers and a very good informative video, you said at the end, if say going to learn more jumping air might be more beneficial, but the spring set up , would still fill that void pretty well, not a great jumper but learning, but will never get huge any way, so it wouldn't make jumping, learning to jump, any harder or more restrictive in any way

    • @LoamRoamer
      @LoamRoamer  2 года назад

      This is not a good option for those jumping a lot if you are doing big jumps, if just normal jumping and drops, it is an amazing traction upgrade. I hope that helps if I was unclear.

    How does Smashpot compare to ACS3 performance wise, not counting on the bottom out systems which you’ve covered.

    • @LoamRoamer
      @LoamRoamer  2 года назад

      The coil part is pretty damn near identical. It really is all about the bottom out to me.

    I had a fox 36, awesome kit, but sold the Fox 36. Now I have Ext Era, will see how it performans lo g ter., but Fox fork eventuellly got very noisy, alot of snapping and creaking notices, so bad eventually i just could not take it any more and installed the new fork when it arrived.

    • @LoamRoamer
      @LoamRoamer  3 года назад

      I have not gotten to a loud fork yet. Did the protection inside move? I did notice when I did a service I had to move it ack up and wonder if it slides down what the impact is.

      @@LoamRoamer it's stanchions, creaking whole turning, and steerer and crown, stanchions while braking, and slamming fork down, horrible, I will do it to all forks on the market I am sure. but the Vorsprung system is great, it was flawless, knob staid in place, but was easy to turn, nice clicks, no crazy noises, and loved coil setup, but time to try different things. so if EXT ERA did not exist I would have got the Morc36 conversion making the 36 into dual crown fork, or got a new fork.

    I did not use the bottom out control, I tested it, but made it too harsh, I rarely bottom out i have 170mm,mabye I had too high spring rate? It felt good, had low speed rebound at 5 clicks from closed, 0 high, I was 86kg fully kitted, 0 compression. Forgot the spring rate I ran. I went to Vorsprung convertion right away, not trying air.

    What does your grip2 setup look like with the Smashpot installed? Did you make any notable changes to compression/rebound dampening compared to air? Thanks!

    • @LoamRoamer
      @LoamRoamer  3 года назад +2

      I noticed that the adjustments were more noticeable and I was able to dial in the rebound better than before. I sped it up and did not have increased harshness but rather higher traction and a better overall ride!

    What’s is the issue with unsprung weight?
    It offers no performance improvement whatsoever and I on the contrary, it reduces performance. More unsprung mass means that your suspension components have to work harder to keep the wheel on the ground.
    So why would I want a coil?
    Because coil springs have a linear resistance in both compression and rebound which the damper controls much better than the non-linear resistance of the oe air spring.
    Which is why air springs really do not dominate any other vehicle suspension system other that bicycles.
    I read a review that said it best and it was titled “it broke my tingle bell.” Stating the bell would no longer ring in the first position because the coil fork action was so smooth. That’s real world feed back that speaks volumes.

    • @LoamRoamer
      @LoamRoamer  2 года назад

      This is great information, and my only counter is what happens when you attempt larger jumps with significant high-speed compression? Today a coil fork does not handle that exceptionally well. And a harsh bottom out often leads to a crash. I, for one, much prefer a coil!
