Hey, thanks for checking out my map! If you don't hate me too much by now, please check out some of my other maps as well! If you love spectacular views, you'll really enjoy the map Masterpieces Of The Earth.
Sounds strange to say but I have never laughed longer over a bit of GeoWizard than the little sequence wherein Tom saw another one of those motherfucking birds staring out at him like a thug, him saying "What you've never heard of that?" when scrolling in to Nelsons Island and then finishing it off with "Maybe we've battled the French over these tiny dots in the sea"
I think it'd be awesome if you played on the "An Unofficial Street World" map by David Walker. That map has 5000 locations from almost every country in the world, with all locations on a road to look like regular Geoguessr. It's basically what Geoguessr would be like if it had every country.
As an amateur player, I love watching your videos cause you don't play like a freaking computer. Feels more human and relatable to take your time, be utterly confused and get it wrong sometimes lol.
Hey Tom! I liked seeing the "Disturbing Backstories" map that you played & mentioned before, or the "Photospheres in Obscure Countries" as that felt rewarding with the detective work involved.
I love photospheres of obscure countries, I still think about one of his majorly impressive finds in that. Of a volcanic caldera on an island, if I remember correctly, which I may not
They were almost all tropical places near the equator. On a mercator map projection, it might not seem that far away when you're used to Europe but the distances are bigger than you think.
@@vaaggasje You are right, but the scoring here is intentionally more punishing as well. You can technically get a score of 0 while in the correct country in several places on this map, which is not possible in any country on normal world map scoring.
The scoring formula is calculated based on the two locations that are farthest apart from each other. So something like a city or country map would have a very low score threshold, whereas something like this map would be a bit lower than a world map.
Crazy that Zigzag managed to get more than 14000 without panning or zooming. No idea what clues he's using to get even close to the right guess for those locations.
3:14 the sign has a price in THB (baht) meaning it's almost definitely gonna be thailand - dive sites strongly implies koh samui or koh tao. I think this is the first time I could have done better than the geowizard himself
3:38 German *diving* school, not teaching school. 😉 Happy New Year and loads of good luck, health, happiness and wishes coming true for you in 2024. 🍀 I love this channel, especially your straight line missions and that kind of stuff. It's always fun to watch! 👍
The scoring multiplier is based on how spread out the locations are. All of these locations are tropical so the points drop off is faster compared to the World map or other maps that have locations all around the world. You can see this when you play Country maps. The smaller the country the more accurate you have to be for the same score.
I liked it :) I dont care i watch everything you do ^^ But as you said it, those Maps with Tragedys/ Disturbing Background Stories are interesting aswell.
As much as I enjoy your adventures and other things, I really miss the old school GeoGuessr videos, so this one was a nice suprise. I just really miss the randomly playing GG to get back into the groove videos, trying to beat your PB, etc. The most fun lately I have with the Maprunner. It has something of everything, so I find it quite entertaining and enjoyed your video about it. I personally just need more GeoGuessr again
I played this map about a dozen times after watching Oscar play. My scores ranged from 1200 to 11000 with an average of about 4300. The 11000 game was only because I had a couple of repeats that I actually remembered. Thanks for the video, Tom! You got me into this game. It's nice to have you back.
This is my favorite format of your videos. Me and my wife are watching your videos in the evenings on TV and try guessing too :D Make more, please. Perfect pacing.
This is a hard map alright but probably a good one for people like me that sometimes guess based on vegetation, soil, geology, and topography (I'm an enviromental science major). I'm nowhere near as good as you, but at 5:05 I did think Japan, the presence of ferns, and a thick but not humid forest does hint towards Japan and not something closer to the equator
9 месяцев назад+5
I also thought Japan, not sure what about it, but if you watch enough anime you kinda get the vibe of these abandoned shrine paths lol
Yeah this totally reminded me of some trails I walked in Japan, not entirely sure what gave it away for me but the plant types, very high humidity + the cobbles made me think of Japan.
I've studied geology, oceanography, geomorphology and related stuff, but virtually nothing about the living stuff like plants. Give me a barren place, and I can often squeeze out a decent guess, but deep in the jungle, I'm lost.
I'd like to see you do more on this map, for sure. You always improve, and it would be interesting to see what kind of clues you would start to harness as you got to know what to look for, and then excel..
Love how pleased you where with the 4 pointer in the last game :) I was guessing half way around the world from where most of them were :D Happy new year
Love watching Tom play some Geoguessr no matter what he plays and especially this one after watching Oscar go at it, super fun! I think something that would be absolutely fun to watch you try is getting a country streak of 10 on a normal map like "A Community World" which is basically the next best average map after Diverse World vanished.
hey Tom, love your channel, loved watching you struggle through this. Watching some other players on this map became almost boring though, just one impenetrable jungle after another. I think it's more interesting when there's something more than just foliage. Cheers, happy new year!
17:26 "I wonder if we can tell how Neanderthal someone was from their footprint" wtf Tom 😂 Thinking there are Neanderthals walking around on some tropical island
I dont know how, but when he got the Pitcairn Island round I knew it was it lol. Think its from the very very limited google coverage of the island and I checked it out the other day and they're usually under those cliff like structures
Given the Neandertal, which gives its name to the Neanderthals, is near Düsseldorf in Germany I don't think that was going to help you on that beach Tom ;)!
I instantly recognised Ko Tao on that Thailand round having only been there a month ago. The THB on the sign is the Thai currency and there is diving schools literally everywhere in Ko Tao so that's a dead giveaway if it somehow crops up again!
Great video! Id love to see a playthrough of the disturbing backstories map, that one was great! Sidenote: just to clarify, Henderson island is NOT the main island of the Pitcairn Islands (the name of the main one is in fact Pitcairn Island and is south-west of Henderson I believe). For some reason the pitcairn islands name on google maps is placed on that island, leading you to believe its the main one, despite it being unpopulated and completely flat, its a coral island I believe. The populated ‘Pitcairn Island’ itself is very mountainous and far smaller.
This is really funny because I'm currently in the process of writing my dissertation on movements of sharks in the British Indian Ocean Territory... I think your Geoguesser is telling me to get on with my work...
I can often find places just from picture's and general description. But this is always impressive that just picture with almost nothing in it and no description/context, you know to find things.
I too had never heard of the Eagle Islands. According to Wikipedia (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eagle_Islands), the larger of the two islands is only 2.45 sq. km, and once had a coconut plantation and a small settlement of plantation workers. However, since 1998 the islands are part of a nature reserve, and it is forbidden to land on the islands or anchor a boat nearby.
would love to see you play more geoguessr, currently binge watching your old videos, but this map is probably not that interesting since the only way to get solid score is by playing so much that rounds start repeating and your start to memorize all locations… would love to see more videos where your knowledge shows
Every large country has lands that are very similar to other countries. Virtually every image could be imagined in the USA, Argentina, Brazil, China, India, etc.
Lines that are between the tropics cover more distance per cm than lines near the north or south because of the projection so a relatively short line near the equator will give you a pretty low score.
Oh man. I have no idea how anyone could get a good score on this map. The first Israel round was already hard, but as I'm furtheri nto the video now, I guess it actually was amongst the easier rounds :D
I think it'd be very interesting for you to play this With moving! I get the impression that most of those locations it won't be a gimme even then, and would likely be more figuring it out, and less guessing.

most maps put dummy locations at north and south pole to max out scoring but 0xgg did not for this map so scoring is harder.
