Switch Axe F can be best described as the love at first sight kind of weapon in Monster Hunter. Excellent utility, simple movement, evade attacks, the ability to guard, kickass design, epic as Hell visuals, eargasmic sound effects, and a lot less technical than any other weapon in the series combined. The best part? It was *insanely* easy to pick up. Using the Switch Axe F was a ridiculously fucking fun experience for every player because it literally had everything you could ever want in a weapon. And due to that major blessing of an aspect, as one who proudly mained it like it was marriage, it was *impossible* to let go of simply for how attached I was to the point where I hardly touched anything else. _Easily_ the best weapon in the entire series. I miss it dearly.
Thank you for going and explaining all this, i had seen a whole bunch of cool switch axe stuff in Frontier, but never knew how it worked or where it forms were what, but i always went "man i wish we would get that!"
More and more things they pull from Frontier... in a new gameplay trailer for Sunbreak, one of the new moves for Switch Axe involves a guard point attack! Not sure if it'll behave like Frontier's iteration of SA yet in that regard, but still great to see stuff like this lol
In main series all of the changes (as in Extreme style) sounds OP. But if Switch Skills stick around, the Guard Point, fade slashes, and even the dash would be cool options to have. Also I want that Abnormality skill in mainline, A status set being able to boost its damage once its inflicted its status would be awesome. I almost never used Status in World unless I was nerfing myself to play with people lower rank (or with a ranged weapon where I could change ammo) cause I felt so weak losing element or higher raw. And in Rise Palico/Palamutes seem to do fine on their own with it and you can carry a toad to inflict status if you want, so why bother?
I feel like there was a version of that but clunkier in World or Rise if you have non-element boost and a way to be dragonblighted on demand you could gain the effect of NEB because the dragonblight removes your element. I think its Rise with the Valstrax or World with Fatalis armor I can't recall precisely which one it was but its more annoying either way.
Good news! Foray was brought into Sunbreak - like its Frontier counterpart, you dealt extra raw damage if the monster was inflicted with a status - Poison, Paralysis or an elemental blight!
Imagine a switch skill for SA that changes the weapon to be a counterattacker. When you switch modes it will take a bit longer but gives you a counterattack. Since you can switch at any point in a combo, it'd be a lot of fun.
You want to know the crazy power of Switch Axe F in the right hands? The YT user Garrus posted a video of himself taking on ZENITH WHITE FATALIS *BY HIMSELF* with this weapon and style. He downed what would certainly the strongest monster (lore-wise at least) in around five minutes.
Even if I could add only ONE move from frontier to Switch Axe in mainline MH games, would be the fade slashes. SA definitely lacks movement and I feel like adding those said fade slashes would make the weapon infinitely more fun. Of course it would need maybe some balancing for mainline games, maybe coating stamina to do, or it costs extra sword gauge
I remember seeing a video with someone playing the SA from Frontier. The first thing I thought was "Damn, why is that running move no longer a thing". Its a shame they haven't added it back.
Lightsaber is something I would like to see. Like if switch skill return ( as they should ) light saber slash would be perfect substitute for amped discharge
Could you do a video explaining the movesets in each style for the other weapon types? If you cant because you dont have footage then thats totally understandable :)
Not a fan of how axe mode seemed to just get tossed to the wayside even moreso in frontier judging by this vid, but I'd be lying if I didn't say I would have loved to try this iteration of switch axe regardless
@@CeraCymmetry Yeah that's what I mean lol, the fact that a mainline series weapon ended up so similar to a literal Frontier weapon is bonkers. Idk what they're gonna do with it, it's unclear whether Capcom controls LS or Ls controls Capcom at this point lmao
i see you have lots of footage from frontier, it's all from when the servers were active or there is a way to keep playing it today? i really wanna try frontier, looks amazing
Literally hands down the best weapon in the game. I don't get why they've been so scared to add more weapons with World and Rise. They nearly almost always knock it out of the park
Honestly same. It gave incentive to players to time wyverns blast as well since it locks the heat gauge. It made the gunlance feel more skill based as well.
We might be getting a counter for switch axe in Sunbreak. So it might be keeping the spirit alive.

it was AWESOME dude. One of the most fun weapons to play
Revisiting this vid for no particular reason 😎

Ah yes, extreme style, the "If I get hit once, even stub my toe even. I perish"

I would've loved to experience this SA ! Even tho I love how it plays in Rise :o
It was amazing, and I still love mainline SA currently, but this was just SO good
It seems progress on the revival of the game is coming along well
Incredible that now with Sunbreak SA is getting his counter back from Frontier

Looks like the SwAxe got a frontier-like guard/counter in the newest MHWilds trailer.
The phial dash is so cool! Wish we could get that in the main series ;_;

I don’t wanna burst your bubble but Road White Fatalis (not a zenith) is quite easy to solo haha. It’s a fun fight!
@@CeraCymmetry If having the most powerful monster in lore ascend to an even more powerful isn't "Zenith", I don't know WHAT is!
Oh papa anglo, its not even christmas yet! Thank you thank you!
The Switch Axe was better than the Greatsword damn
Wow, I didn't realize switch axe had 3 different play styles. This video is so good. Thank you for making this!

Give me that fade slash and gaurd point 😭. World/icebornes swax with that would be perfect

it guards in mainline now

I was thinking that next, an Extreme Style breakdown perhaps?

Man I want to play frontier now... This is a dark timeline
There's private servers up and a guide on how to set up your own

The one thing it's missing in my opinion is the ability to have a dedicated Axe playstyle.

It was a great experience, truly
This looks beautiful... gimmie
Just started playing Frontier! Getting excited to get to G rank so I can try out this ridiculous weapon :')

Why does modern Long sword sound so mechanically comparable to this MH Frontier weapon, would it not seem as though it's a little unbalanced??
Lmao, I explain why, and you’re saying it like modern LS ISNT overtuned

It’s a shame to know we’ll unlikey to ever get frontier skills in mainline games. Even worse the two weapons are probably never gonna come over
