      i honesty desagree with the choise of Byakuya as the one to fight Tsukishima... i agreed that ichigo change byakuya's world view but compare his relationship with ichigo with characters like Orihime and Chad is kind of weird to me
      like, Byakuya have the will power to fight tsukishima's "spell" but Orihime who loves ichigo from the botton of her heart dont? I allways think Orihime shoud be the one to bring Tsukishima down, because he is the one that make Ichigo cry. Ulquiorra and Grimmjow fight him, but he never break under them... this could give orihime the motivation to have a serious fight and use her power to the fullest extend

    On first blush, it's weird that Byakuya isn't just like "OH wait why are we fighting?", but on a deeper analysis, the whole "now we're friends" ability of the book of the end is useless against Byakuya. Here we have a man that was entirely willing to kill his adopted sister out of his sense of duty. Compared to that, betraying his former master is nothing.

    Another interesting thing about this fights, is how his fight and Zaraki's are also some kind of paralel to each other. Byakuya and Zaraki are the two strongest Shinigamis Ichigo fought in Soul Society, they were put as "rivals" in Hueco Mundo, and they were always like, the opposite of each other, Byakuya being a very delicate, noble and fast in his fights, basically liking to finish it as quick as possible and Zarak being a very brutal, savage and slow i his fights, wanting to drag them on as long as he could. But in this saga, Zaraki faced his enemy and simply finished him in one slash, not even waiting to see his full power, just a quick and simple defeat while Byakuya had to fight in a much more personal way, having to use his bare hands to punch a hole trough Tsukishima, even going as far as saying HE ENJOYED the battle! I might be just readng too much into it, but I REALLY think this was a great inversion of dynamics, like, they were changing places, and experiencing a little bit of each other worlds: Zaraki experiencing a quick fight and Byakuya learning to enjoy a fight and appreciate it. Idk I just always thought this was a very great moment for both of them, and some kind of dynamic thing Kubo put there for us

    From a swordsmanship perspective, one's style reflects their personality and values. Kubo has always put a lot of emphasis on the art of kendo and how that relates to the fighter's morals (for example, Shunsui being ambidextrous and switching his swords around shows that trickster personality of his and Kenpachi only using one arm most of the time shows how he limits himself to a fault).
    Byakuya changing his perfect and graceful fighting style, something he and his piers held in such high regard, something he always tried his best to improve upon in order to beat his superiors (like Yoruichi) shows how he's now willing to discard his "pride" to protect his friends. In his battles against Renji and Ichigo he talked down on them for being hot-blooded and reckless, because it impeded their progress as a Shinigami. But here he shows that he has opened up to those values and, while still being serious, cool like the Byakuya we've always known, you can tell that he's grown up by letting other people change him.

    *Theory:* There are only 3 Abilities that can counter Ywach's "The Almighty" and they all are ridiculously powerful, creating anchor points in time:
    1. Book of The End (Past)
    2. Anti-Thesis (Present)
    3. Kyokasuigetsu (Void)
    Kyokasuigetsu is the most interesting Ability, since it can affect the anchor points themselves, meaning it cannot be countered by the others, including "The Almighty".
    Anti-Thesis is the most powerful, as it has the potential of reversing World Events, using Ishida and another person as the anchor point.
    Book of the End is a perfect counter to "The Almighty" but, presumably, cannot be used to alter one's own past to prevent death, like Ywach can with the future, which makes it weaker.

Soul Society and Hueco Mundo are these grandiose world events and here's this arc where the whole focus for a while is on Ichigo's little world and those who care about him. I really liked that Byakuya essentially fights like Ichigo, throws hundreds of years of training out the window to fly by the seat of his pants instead and truly wing it for a change. However, there are some inverse moments: Ichigo actively tried to suppress his hollow powers, while Tsukishima reveled in using his Fullbring (aka his hollow powers). Ichigo actions reminded Byakuya of the importance of his bonds and his relationships, Tsukishima tried to profane his relationships. How Tsukishima even tries to fight in a way that Byakuya's own bankai will harm him shows how Tsukishima truly tries to fight, if he get's inside your head, you will become your own worst enemy. And I think how Byakuya defeats him shows two things:
    First, in all of his fights, Byakuya was always a pillar of grace and technique, unless someone tries to threaten his family or friends. Although he didn't lose his composure against Zommari and was still a rather graceful fighter in that fight, his execution of Zommari showed that threatening that is the greatest offense to Byakuya. The sheer brutality of grabbing the blades and piercing Tsukishima's chest shows how angry/offended he was.
    Secondly, I feel like Byakuya defeating him in such a brutal and desperate way shows his growth throughout the series, one of which I would describe of him becoming more and more human. He only defeated him by embracing the bonds in his life and not allowing someone who would destroy those bonds or threaten his friends to win. This is rather human, and something that Byakuya at the start of the series would have never done. In that moment, he was desperate and incredibly human, which something Tsukishima, namely compared to the other Fullbringers, was not very. He was cold, callous, and almost looked inhuman, much like Byakuya at the start of the series.
    Great analysis and usual Tommo!

    Byakuya has been my favourite pretty much ever since I first saw him. The character development he goes through is one of the most wholesome things I have ever seen, and I love it.
    This fight is one of the most perfect fights in the series, as it forces Byakuya to go against everything he believed in - training hard ever since he was a boy to give him the means to defeat anyone who stood against him. It's making Byakuya fight in a real, visceral sense, going against everything he's been taught up to this point (maybe not in fighting against Ichigo, but that's one of the parts of the whole equation). He's going against an oponent that "knows" him, and so he must adjust his fighting style accordingly.
    Shows the immense level of Byakuya's genius in reacting under enormous pressure, and it made me love Byakuya even more than before ♥♥♥

      Ulquiorra died respecting the heart of a human, to live would not only disrespect his ending but would also make him a generic hero.

    This is definitely one of the best fights in the entire series. I’ve been waiting for this video since you first put up the poll and wow! You seriously did a great job with this fight analysis. The thing I really love about this fight is like you said, it’s got this sense of sinister almost unpredictability about it. This fight just reinforces how much of a beast Byakuya is. The one thing I would have loved to see is how Tsukishima could’ve defended against Some of Byakuyas techniques and his kido prowess but hey, the fight was spectacular non the less.
    The one thing that I thought Tite Kubo could’ve done is allow Byakuya to try and exploit his own bankai’s “weakness” against As Nodt but still get absolutely wrecked like he does in the fight. We just saw how to fight against Byakuya’s Bankai during his fight against Tsukishima it just would’ve been cool seeing Byakuya try and able that similar principle fighting his own Bankai. I think it could’ve emphasised Byakuya desperation during his fight with As Nodt.

    At first I was put off by the absurdness of Tsukishima being able to 'insert himself' into the 'past' of inanimate objects, especially objects that didn't even have that past themselves, i.e. were fabricated realms that did not previously exist--but when I remembered that Fullbring is about the souls that exist in every object, an idea that I frankly love, I had to admit that it was more than plausible. The fight was thrilling, but that moment in the epilogue, when Byakuya told Tsukishima that even if he was his mentor and had saved his life, if he was Ichigo's enemy than he was Byakuya's enemy, was one of the best moments of the whole Lost Agent arc. It reinforced the idea that Ichigo had changed the Soul Society, that Lawful Stupid organization, and in so doing was more than a hero who could defeat villains, but one who could change the world.
    It also was actually a subtle callback to the end of the Soul Society arc, when Orihime remarked that Rukia was very important to Ichigo, because she was the one 'who changed his world'. As Rukia had changed Ichigo's world, so had Ichigo changed the world of Byakuya and the rest of the Soul Society.

    @Arcitan 3 года назад +7

    I have always thought this fight should have been why Byakuya survived his own Bankai in TYBW, even if just barely. Unlike any of the other captains who had their's stolen, he'd recently fought an opponent who'd pointed out and exploited all his Bankai's abilities and weaknesses. As such he should have been able to fight As Nodt just as Tsukishima fought him, maybe getting messed up, but forcing As Nodt to make a mistake where he hurt himself to get the stale mate. Would have been cool too as a nod to Tsukishima's "mentor" role to Byakuya.
    Its one thing in the TYBW I never liked....sure the quincy stole their Bankai's, which in itself was never properly explained given Zanpakuto lore, but they didn't have the decades/centuries of training to use them. So the fights should have been a lot like Byakuya versus Renji, when he first got his in the Soul Society arc. They get a boost in power sure, but they don't know how to use them properly, which can be exploited. I'll give the others the surprise factory, but because his fight with Tsukishima, Byakuya should have recovered and fought back quickest and hardest.

    • @dungeonmaster3464
      @dungeonmaster3464 2 года назад +2

      I forgive Byakuya for the As Nodt fight because he was having death hallucinations at the time. As Nodt even pointed out that Byakuya completely stopped moving at points.
      As for the stolen bankais, I do think it would've made more sense if the quincy were kidnapping the entire zanpakuto spirit rather than just the bankai. That said, maybe that would've been too hard a nerf.

    • @lordhighkage7105
      @lordhighkage7105 2 года назад

      I actually disagree with this thought process on two points. Aside from the aforementioned reply's point about Byakuya experiencing fear for the first time in probably decades at this point--seeing Rukia dead shook him up really bad--with As Nodt, it was different.
      First off, Tsukishima only had the intel on Byakuya's Bankai. The most use he could make of it was defensive, weaving around the dangerous parts and closing in on the chinks in the armor. Byakuya still had all of those abilities and the power they came with.
      As Nodt, on the other hard, stole it and could UTILIZE it. He not only robbed Byakuya of his most powerful kit, Byakuya was now in the position where any advantage he could take was only going to be in that defensive area. Offensively, he stood no chance with just his Shikai.
      Less long-windedly and secondly, I think that would have diminished the impact that the invasion had. Seeing Byakuya, one of the cornerstone members of the Gotei 13 get absolutely pummeled in a show of brutality and advancement from the Quincies really show off just how badly they have been wanting this historical rematch, and that they're coming for the Soul Society in blood. And they did have the daten provided by Yhwach, which had data on Bankai as early as Renji's just 2 years prior when he learned it in SS. It's not the most outlandish thing in the world for the Sternritter to at least have some minimal knowledge on what these Bankai can do

    I like to think it wasn’t just the blades in his hand, but he also left blades in the wounds on his arm and that’s how it was so much. Raising his arm with hundreds of tiny blades in his muscles would make this even more badass.

    It's always surprising hearing you describe Tsukishima as bringing up his own power level up to the person he cuts to make the lie believable, because I never interpreted it like that. When I read it, I understood it as he had gained sufficient wisdom to make up for the gap in power. Much like a boxer learning to maximize the ring space by micro-managing the distance they need to move to deal the most damage as opposed to simply "getting faster." Tsukishima was now able to aim all his power directly to the weakest parts of Byakuya's character, and maximized his own efficiency and potential. In that way I wouldn't say it's like giving him a power boost, it's just arming him by succinctly giving him all the answers he needs to win. Literally giving him hundreds of years of (mental) experience SPECIFICALLY on fighting Byakuya, but not the actual physical power that would come from that.

    Personally, I feel like Kenpachi would have annihilated this guy. Even in the most likely scenario, where Kenpachi doesn't worry about getting hit and then Tsukishima cuts him and does the same thing he did to Byakuya, (making him his "mentor"). Kenpachi would just get stronger by unconsciously releasing his limiters. In addition, there is little for Tsukishima to "learn" by becoming his mentor. Kenpachi's technique is kill.
    The only thing that could happen after that, is Tsukishima lands a second book of the end to try something else. but knowing Kenpachi, nothing would work. If you're a friend of Kanpachi, he will come at you just as hard as if you were an enemy. So Tsukishima would have to just keep landing hits to "refresh" his buff of "being Kenpachi's mentor" and/or trying new edits to his past.

    Also, good metaphor - Byakuya has not wanted to allow anyone or anything this close to him (relationships, attacks, etc) until he met ichigo. Close enough to get hurt. But close enough to evolve.

    Oh, so in the manga it is explained that when Tsukishima cuts Byakuya his power levels are upgraded?? This fight always bugged me in the anime because they never mentioned it, so I thought that he only knew Byakuya abilities and how to counter them but without the power up that would be meaningless. Also he didn't receive Ichigo's powers.

      By hitting Byakuya he inserts himself into his past. In the anime it says that he helped Byakuya develop kids and other techniques.
      Basically, the stronger the fighter he hits, the bigger then "retcon" for how strong he is. Byakuya being one of the strongest means that he reconned and self-inserted himself into Byakuya's entire life from day 0. Its not just about knowledge and memories, its a quasi-time altering ability. Kinda like Naruto's shadow clones when he used them to accelerate learning rasengan

    Hey man it's out of place for this video but I'm hoping you see my comment. I think vasto Lorde ichigo I'd way stronger than we think. He is still in bankia so the shuhakasho represents how much reiatsu he has left. But in that form we only saw an arms worth of clothing left over. I think it'd be cool to look into.

      @@MrTommo2304 if we use the Shihakusho is reitsu metric then he would probably have more than any other character, maybe even Aizen for all we know. It’s such a shame Kubo never gave us Ichigo upgrading his hollow mask to Vasto Lorde form that he controls and that would have been the melding of his powers rather than finding out his sword was fake this whole time. Final form Vasto Lorde Ichigo with Zangetsu connected to his hand like dangai Ichigo and the ability to control reishi, blut etc: that would be all of his powers represented in one form.

    Byakuya v Tsukishima honestly should have been the most memeable fight in the series. I like what we got, but it could have been so much more if Kubo were to play into the theatrics.
