Do not know what to say. Gigli has been sadly overlooked by those who praised Bjorling, Caruso, Schippa and even Pavorrati. Bjorling is my choice above all, but I certainly don't denigrate Gigli, some pieces are his alone. I think his 1928 Mi Par D'udir Ancora is one of the greatest performances ever, almost painfully sweet.

There will never be another tenor like Gigli. He had colour, inflection, tone, diction, mezza voce, forte, legato and passion. You name it, Gigli could do it. Today's tenors sound so boring in comparison.

Gigli's voice production is similar to Bjoerling's, They both do not force the voice. Everything is natural and perfectly placed. The aural effect is superb.

This is something lyric tenors do when they sing something too heavy for them. The other explanation is you-know-what. Wonderful compilation obviously of different occasions. At thebeginning Gigli is wearing an ordinary necktie, and later is wearing a bow tie and formal dinner suit. Nevertheless this is wonderful, exemplifying Gigli's wonderful control and vocal power. My favourite of all the famous tenors by far, and I was privileged to attend one of his concerts 74 years ago when I was nearly 10 years old.
@SuperMagren the main thing is, that there were many and many great singers in that time not only Gigli, because they understood how the human voice is working and how you have to work with a natural voice for singing, and not only theoretical shit of today...there are today only a few of good singers, and how actually conservatories teach is bad! really bad... they teach you to be badly artificial, screaming, quaking, make a grimasse on the stage and not to sing with your natural voice, they put you deep inside, because they dont have taste

I used to hear this song from a brazilian tenor who was our neighbor here in Sao Paulo / Brazil, his name was Antonio Sepi (his parents were italian) and he gave my brother the music partitura printed in Brazil by Irmaos Vitale, but that was in 1964/65. I´m sure you´ll find it in the libraries. Mr Sepi had a 78 rpm record with Gigli, I think that on the other side, Gigli recorded a german song which began with: du bist mein liebt...
