When people say that music these days is not as good as it used to be they are obviously looking in all the wrong places. This is an absolute masterpiece!
I agree!!
John Worthington honestly this was my first impression of the album but as always, their music ages like fine cheese… it’s my favourite album as of now, probably until their next one
I couldn't agree more. Simply amazing.
Yeah, like the shit on the radio is about .1% of all the stuff actually out there
@@liammccarthy9388 Liam, I'm probably preaching to the converted, but give 'BBC Radio 6 music' a go!
*as soon as those trumpets start*
Yup das Beirut
na bruv, beirut da ukelele
Right?!
I feel like crying without knowing why. This is real music.
This made me listen to Nantes again and now I am sobbing
Nantes?
Me tooooo 💕
@@wynstansmom829 another song by Beirut; it's arguably their most popular. Give it a listen, it's beautiful!
@@wynstansmom829 Flying cup club album..
Man his singing was so on point in this performance. Doing Santa Fe proud!
Zach has the slightest tinge of David Byrne and I couldn't be happier about it! Go, go go NM! Taoseno in the house!
Beirut performing Gallipoli sounds like a World History essay topic.
This is another Gallipoli, not the one in Turkey, this one is in Italy :)
@@adrianosolidoro6441la mia gallipoli❤
So happy to see them on mainstream. May everyone appreciate them. ♡
When I become emperor I'll hire this guys to write my anthem
Hahahahahaah good one

When you become emperor I'll hire you to hire these guys to play at my funeral
Beirut! How I have missed this band. It's been a long time coming! Sweet music to my ears. 🎺🎶😌
2:09 I feel like my soul is floating and shining and dancing in some magical place out there. This is soooo wonderfull!
My god, Beirut is beyond magical. I was blessed to see them perform live once and I’m going to see them perform again in a month. I’ll never forget that evening.
Also, wow, they are using a reco-reco :’) I love how Zach is always open to all instruments of the world.
❤️😍OMG
The music of my life
We Love Beirut.
From Brazil 🇧🇷
To eu aqui escutando musica pelo deezer e ele me recomenda essa maravilha, grudou na minha cabeça.
At first I was like what the fuck is this !? But then I started really getting into it . Now it's one of my favorite new songs

Yup..that is Beirut for you! I listened to Flying cup club album in a friend's car and hooked ever since.
Same
My favourite band since I was 11, it's been a nice 10 years
Entendido. Me hace igual la canción "More Than This" por Roxy Music.
"We were seeing signs for a city called Gallipoli. We get out of the car and we just decided to go for a walk and in that moment we happened to hit a procession.
"We happened to walk in at the exact moment as the Saint was leaving the church, carried by a bunch of priests. Behind them was this frenetic kind of brass band. [Sound] was bouncing off the walls, and simultaneously every church bell in town was ringing, which just made for utter chaos. And the city is just claustrophobic, streets winding -you would have to live there your whole life to know where you're going.
"We just got lost with it for an entire night. The next day, I wrote the song I ended up calling 'Gallipoli,' entirely in one sitting, pausing only to eat."
What Gallipoli are they talking about here? The one I know in Turkey would not have priests today. Turkey is almost completely Muslim now and has been for a long time. 6/16/21

As I've come to expect from this band, sounds amazing.
😢 Wow. Now this is good music.
Holy shit yes! I’ve missed them so much
Can’t wait!!!! I’m gonna see Beirut in March. 💕🙌❤️
Well... thumbs up from Apulia... from a village couple of miles from Gallipoli :)
Che emozione incredibile!
I'm going to see them live next Thursday!!!
I'm gonna try and go at the end of the month. Pretty much our whole town will go. Gotta support paul
I'll be seeing them in Milwaukee in a couple weeks as well! Hope you enjoy the show!
March 2nd! Oakland CA
I just wanna dissappear into their tunes.. I first hear Nantes at my graduation party 13 years ago, and I would give anything to listen to every single one of his songs for the first time again, even though I discover something new every time I listen. A new beat, or some howling brass I missed the first time.
I remember at a show, we were with the band. A family tried to buy one ticket for their daughters graduation. Could not to do it but we asked our friends the were opening and Beirut if we could get her one. They came from Alaska, not sure if we got her one but her parents after thanked us for trying.
One of my old teachers sons is in this band- I was so excited that they got this opportunity!
YES. YES. YES. YES.
"And it shapes everything you know"...Yes! and I have shared this video to MBTI RadioStation on Reddit. Thanks, Stephen Colbert and Beirut.
AAAAAAAAAH beirut é minha vida e vou protegê-la
Love the artists the LSSC is booking! What a lovely change of pace! They won me over just by the name’s band and then the song title more!
Beirut is back.
MY SOUL IS BACK. ♥♥♥♥♥♥
This is such an earworm! I'm definitely a fan!
great band
This makes a dude remember the days of old.
Excellent band !!!!!
👏👏👏👏👏
It grows on you! Beautiful as always. Beirut for ever!
Still got it!! And your drummer gives me such joy hahaha
Epic band. Cult status while still alive. Love the inside burst of happiness from the drummer at 2:57
While this isn't necessarily my cup of tea I have a lot of respect/admiration for the skill and/or musicianship of this song.
my feelings about it
Es una belleza esta canción....
Nice music band
Mais que c'est bon!!! 😍
Can't stop listening to this track outstanding.
Tenho paixão por essa música por causa do trompete!!!!
What a beautiful song.
This is better than the album version
I disagree... rather disappointing and lifeless compared to the album version.
Matthew R. That’s what I was thinking, glad I’m not the only one
Not really. Album is a bit better.
No, the album version is better
What?!? A new Beirut album??
Is it Christmas, and also ten years ago??? *glee*
my favourite song of the past year
Love this song
The fact that the drummer playing 2 instruments at the same time, genious.
beatiful album
Wtf guys this is about Gallipoli in Puglia, the first city to have this name and one of the most ancient cities in Europe. The name itself comes from Greek and means beautiful city
Just explaining that the word has different meanings in different countries.
Ok and?
Thanks for the explanation. Didn’t know that the one in the Dardanelles wasn’t the only Gallipoli. This . Is . Beautiful. This is the first time I’ve heard Beirut. Wow.
@@amdperacha you have learned something.
Beautiful
I so want to hear Beirut play the LSSC theme 😍
With JB on Melodica! Yes!
Marvellous!
indiscutivel ... simplemente magnifico ..........
Meu Beirut tá vivíssimo!
Love the entire album!
💛
Morri de amor umas três vezes enquanto ouvia
Wonderful...
I just saw the last episode of Australia's 2015 miniseries Gallipoli. This music seems to have nothing to do with the WWI battle or Turkey. 6/16/21
Excellent !
Ben Lanz is the world's greatest trombonist.
excellent
Mi risulta che nella versione originale in studio, la parte dei fiati è stata eseguita da una Banda Municipale del Salento in Puglia.
Is it named after the city of Beirut I'm living in right now???
Much better recording than the original
Aren’t those other guys playing the horns in The National?
They were in Beirut first and moonlight with The National.
Arte!
Nice song.
I kinda like you don't hear this at the Grammys.. they don't deserve good music. I mean they wouldn't understand.
they are so used to award garbage.
That stuff was good.
Bit of a warning; there might be a mixed reaction if you played this song in Australia.
Beirut has its own connotations for the United States too. Let's suck it up and enjoy the music.
@@ianbob The Gallipoli landings is part of the reason Australia is how we know it today. Dont just say suck it up, Digs gave what they had to for her people and the Empire.
But we don’t own the name. Especially as there’s an Italian Gallipoli. This music is beautiful. FWIW, my close relative died at dawn 25.4.15, landing on that Dardanelles beach, and I see no reason for anything but applause for this lovely song.
@@hannyhawkins7804 in context I'm not saying the song is bad or unthoughtful, Infact I like it, the context is the first comment, It may have a different connotation in Australia, the second comment telling people to just suck it up as if those lives didnt matter, my comment is not against the song, but the callous attitude of the 2nd commentor.
ManOfCrusades i get where you’re coming from. I guess I don’t expect non Oz/NZers (and Turkish/Brit/Indian/French) to honour the Gallipoli legend, or even to know about it. It’s our history, our job. I’d be dubious if an American expected me to pay obeisance to some historic US action that’s got nothing to do w me. I understand what you’e saying but we’ve gotta be careful not to turn remembrance into a nationalist celebration of Anzackery. There are those who want to use it that way, which is dangerous. It was never that for the Anzac generation. Not accusing you of doing this. Just explaining my own perspective.
Fans of Beirut from Java Island
The new album sounds really fresh and different, but live, it reminds me so much of No No No
This band reminds me of Typhoon
And I searched for Sabaton first.
come to mexico
To the average Australian "Gallipoli" is a place of blood and sacrifice, were as a nation we bled as one.
Same to New Zealanders
And where the futility of war was writ large... bad decisions were made by the British who gave orders that led to certain death.
That our veteran's memorial day (ANZAC Day) is held on the date of our biggest defeat (the landing at Gallipoli) says much about our national psyche and our enduring relationship with NZ. Lest we forget.
The album is named after the Italian town where Condon wrote the title track. The album was recorded in New York City, Berlin, and Gallipoli (Puglia, Italy).
Well said. To the Average American, Gallipoli means Mel Gibson.
To the average Turk, Gallipoli means victory and independence.
This song sounds familiar. Did some other person/band play it in the past?
No, it's an original song, but the horn players also play in The National.
♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
He kind of looks like Thomas Lennon as he gets older, right?
🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽
The only Beirut I will ever and only love is Beirut, Lebanon. The best city in the world. 🇱🇧❤🇱🇧
these guys are great. they are essentially turning into a white mans version of a mariachi band. as a white man, i love mariachi bands.
Then check out Calexico! They've been doing brown-white neo-Mariachi for ten years now. Best songs are Banderilla, El Picador and Muleta.
Anyone know the brand or model that Zach is using?
Meghan McCain's talk brought me here...
Beirut is in Lebanon
Gallipoli is in Turkey
This show is in USA
Not that it means anything but wow so where are we at again ?
There's also Gallipoli in Italy
No the Gallipoli they're talking about is in Italy so your point is invalid
Gallipoli is in Italy
We are at a stupid band name. Next up... "Pyongyang" from Idaho singing "Tripoli".

The capital of Lebanon
Concur with some of the other comments... As an Australian when I hear 'Gallipoli' I instantly think about the Dardanelles Campaign and the sheer loss of life on both sides of the conflict by young men fighting for their Countries. Gallipoli was the birth of ANZAC and is perhaps the most significant day in the Australian (and potentially New Zealand) calendar.
Whilst Beirut named this after the Italian town, I feel that they should have perhaps picked another Italian city and it is missing the mark for me.
I kind of maintain a rage, rather than a romantic notion of Gallipoli. It was not a birth, not a foundation, not a way to reflect. An absolute blight on our nations history, a black armband that should not be celebrated as a piss up after 12pm on the 25th of April.
Pjk Pjk then you and I see the day very differently. ANZAC Day is a commemoration of all those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in the name of this Country. Whether you agree with the conflict - past or present; we in the Defence Force have put out hands up to defend this Country and do so knowing that we can be called in at a moments notice anywhere in the world
@@Ferrastar the Brits sent your Grandpas in to be slaughtered with poor intelligence & leadership and little regard for their lives. I respect the sacrifice, but I'm with Pjk Pjk here. No disrespect to the men who served. The truth is complicated enough that we can salute their sacrifice but also question the orders.
no ukelele? wtf!
Get a tattoo on your arm and pretend you know something about sacrifice
ASDF
LS is really good at picking the most inane musical sets...
Who came here from searching about the Beirut explosion?
*There's only a week left to Valentine's Day folks*
*Just a warning, but if you're single like me then who cares*
It does not rock. But it's good background music for a restaurant or a dark bistro.
Accomplished but bland
Wow, rip off Genesis much? Compare the intro of this to the intro to "In The Cage".
