    No amount of money could ever replace the pure joy that kids had from collecting, trading, flicking, and scrambling these hockey cards back in the 1970's. As kids, we didn't care very much at all about a cards condition ... it was all about collecting the complete series for that particular year, and then checking the players/teams off on each of the checklist cards.

    I have Jean Beliveau and Al Arbour 1953-54 Parkhurst Rookie Cards. They are not in the greatest shape because my dad used a corner sticker that they used in old photo books to place them in a book. I have the Gretzky too but it has soft corners and a slight indent on the top left corner. Need to get them graded just to see.

    I had the Orr rookie card in excellent condition, like an idiot, sold it in 1985 to a card store for $400. I had not done my homework. Afterword he quickly led me out of the store saying he could sell it for $1200. Next heartbreak story (of three). I met the photographer of the Gretzky rookie card in 2000. He offered me two uncut sheets of OPC 1979-80. I could have had them for $1000 bucks but turned it down!!! Third heartbreaker. In 1965 I saw these 'tall' hockey cards for sale at the local variety store. NO ONE was buying them so I bought the whole box. These were the Tall Boys, the Howe alone today is worth over $1000. Sadly I gave them away in 1990, I will NOT say to whom or why! I have more stories but I have to commit suicide now.

    The amount of wayne Gretzky rookie card fakes on the market now make it almost impossible to get a genuine unless you know what to look for or get an expert to look at it before buying one. As far as i know there are 2 variations of the fake ones. The second one is the hardest to spot.

    Technically a PSA 10 doesn’t have to be perfect. It can be off center or have a slightly different imperfection in another sub-grade and still receive an overall 10 or you could own the company and get your 8’s to 10’s for free, lol. It’s good to mention here there are two examples of his rookie the topps and o-pee-chee which is typically around 2x more than the topps version. It’s also one of the most forged cards in the hobby. There are ways to tell and if you’re interested in adding a Gretzky to your collection Raw, I’d investigate how to tell before getting suckered. That raw Gretzky probably grades a PSA 3 and today a few years later the o-per-Cher’s comps in similar grade are selling for around 1-1.3k depending on eye appeal, time of day, and if the buyer is color blind or left handed…j/k. The topps sell around 500-900 today. It’s one of my favorite cards. I got pretty lucky to snag a raw card that looked mint before the market erupted for $900 and sent in to CSG in their infancy when they were the strictest reputable graders on the planet. It got an 8.5 which was the highest graded Gretzky in CSG’s database, I haven’t checked recently. This would easily fetch a 9 from PSA which last sold for 60k. 900 dollar card, 35 dollar grading fee, potential 5 figure profit. If you don’t own a Gretzky, you better get you one. 😎

      @SciyonGenysis 3 года назад

      unfortunately no pretty much anything 89-90 onwards isn't worth a dime (theres a few exceptions) but its mostly all mass produced junk as the market became oversaturated, good for pc but not for reselling
