What an awesome event it was to get us underway for the year. Two days of fishing across a species hunt and a specimen hunt where the branded teams went head to head to collect the trophy! There were some fantastic specimens caught as well as a variety of species caught in the area which made for great competition.
Day 1 was the species hunt, which team Angling Trust smashed out the park. They fished hard all day before catching a dragonet - a pretty rare species and certainly welcome during a Species hunt. After the Specimen hunt however, it was team Small Boats Sea Fishing who came out on top after achieving 2nd place on both days, putting them on 4 points. 2 points clear of Team Suzuki and 3 points clear of the other teams. A fantastic start for the Welsh boys and we look forward to seeing how they get on in Cowes.
The Privateer’s cup on the Sunday was what really made the event special though. Seeing anglers come from all over the country to fish against one another for the chance to win £2000 was awesome. The weather was fantastic and the social on the Saturday night was a great chance to socialise and chat all things fishing and boating after a day of competing out on the water! Once again, there were some great fish caught, with the longest fish of the whole event being caught by young Efan Hutchinson with a 107cm Bull Huss. Just an awesome moment in the championships and the first of many we’re sure! Well done young man!
With stage 1 rounded off we now head to Cowes in July. More sun, more boats and we’re sure an even better event to come! It’s great to have such fantastic support of the event thus far and we’re excited to build on that moving forward. Thank you to all of the brands who supported the event and continue to support the championships - we’re very proud to have your backing as we progress.
